How the Family and the School affect Future Generation

Learning a different language isn’t easy. Why do I say English isn’t easy?

It’s because English is one of the languages that has the most words based on much

research and from dictionaries too. Because of that, to be a native English speaker

or speak English with near-native proficiency isn’t easy and is one of the

challenges for immigrant people. Even though I’m an immigrant , I believe that

someday I’ll successfully overcome those challenges and also let me be successful

in EWRT 1A. Why can I insist on that? It’s because I believe in many factors of

the environment I had like my family background and my previous education are

creating a solid basis for me.

Yes, my previous education has prepared me to be successful in EWRT 1A.

Let me tell you a real fact about me that when I took my first step in the US I

thought English was one of the most difficult things. But after one year living in

the US, I've realized that English is not difficult because in my previous academic

year I had prepared and studied a lot of things about English Literature. I attended

an English 1A class in Independence High School, so I studied a lot of grammar,

and sometimes my teacher also mentioned the college essay and what this looks

like. Besides a lot of knowledge, my teacher also gave a lot of recommendations

for books to read. In a lot of books I read, I have a book that I’ll never forget called

“Between the World and Me” by Ta Nehisi Coates. This is an amazing book. This

book is not only improving my English knowledge but also teaches me how to use

literary techniques like rhetoric or pathos. Although I know it’s difficult to use that

literary technique, it's a great experience and also a great lesson to let me be

successful in EWRT 1A. Besides the teacher and classroom factors, the school

environment also helped me a lot. The environment helped me make my English

accent more "American".How does the environment affect me? It’s because the

environments have friends or teachers, and to integrate with these people, I need to

use English to have a conversation with them. In addition to these passive factors,

there are also the active factors like each week I will watch a film on Netflix

without a subtitle of my mother language or read a lifestyle article on Fox News or

CNN. It’s because film and articles are some of the fastest ways to improve and

increase my English knowledge level. This is because the contents contain a lot of

vocabulary and also academic words. I believe these factors from my previous

experience and education are the key to my success in EWRT 1A.

My family background has prepared me to be successful in EWRT English

1A. I’m the second child in my family. My parents are studious people, but their

family background is poor, and they didn’t have any opportunity to attend a school.

My father,******, and my mother,*****, are Product Operators. Because

of the lack of professional skill or any degree, they did not have any opportunity to

get a better job like Engineering. When I was a child, my parents always said if our

family is in a difficult or poor situation, they can sell anything like a car or the

house but not allowing me to go to school, was an unacceptable thing. And I can

say that in my family, studying and education are the priorities. With that in mind,

when I am lazy about doing homework, I’ll remember how much my parents have

to pay to let me go to school and this is one of the premises that lets me strive.

Even though they did not go to any educational institutions, they also have a great

analysis of the essay, and they also have a lot of ideas for me to fix or develop my

essay. Although they aren’t good at grammar, they gave me an older sister. My

older sister *****is one of the people who helped me a lot in education. She is

good at mathematics, and she also has a diverse vocabulary, which has helped a lot

by teaching me to improve my vocabulary and grammar in the essay. Honestly, I

always feel thankful to God who has given me a family, not a perfect family, but a

good family. Therefore, based on these factors, I believe it will help me a lot with

my success in English 1A.

As I say that I always think that to be an immigrant people whose first language

isn’t English is a disadvantage. But after living in the US for several years I had

learned a lesson. And to be honest, being an immigrant person makes me proud of

myself. Why I’m saying that it’s because if we’re a foreign traveler, taking a first

step in a different country and with a different culture , we'll always feel that is a

ridiculous thing. So the question is how we integrate with this culture and also the

people in this country? I could answer that it is hard work. Why do I know that ?

It’s because throughout studying a different language than my mother language, it

was teaching me that when I want to succeed, I need to work hard at it and in the

other way it also teaches me how to live independently. Importantly, it helped me

learn and change the mindset between advantaged and disadvantaged .I also

believe I will succeed by changing the disadvantaged thing to become an

advantage for me.

Because of that, I would say I will succeed in my educational goals including

EWRT 1A. But why do I believe I will succeed in English and also in EWRT 1A?

I say this because my previous academic educational background and my family

background had prepared me to take and succeed in EWRT 1A.
