1. A transverse sinusoidal wave moves along a string in the positive x-direction
at a speed of 10 cm/s. The wavelength of the wave is 0.5 m and its
amplitude is 10 cm. At a particular time t, the snap-shot of the wave is P
shown in figure. Find the velocity of point P when its displacement is 5 cm

2. The displacement from the position of equilibrium of a point 4 cm from a source of sinusoidal oscillations is
half the amplitude at the moment t = T/6(T is the time period). Assume that the source was at mean position at
t = 0. Calculate The wavelength of the running wave travelling is +ve x-axis.

3. The period of oscillations of a point is 0.04 sec. and the velocity of propagation of ocillation is 300m/sec. Find
the difference of phases between the ocillations of two points at distances 10 and 16m respectively from the

where y and x are in metre and t is in second. Now, answer the following:
(a) At t = 0, what is the displacement at x = 0 ?
(b) At x = 0.1 m, what is the displacement at t = 0.2 s?
(c) What is the equation for the velocity of oscillation of the particles of the string? What is the maximum
velocity of oscillation?
(d) What is the velocity of propagation of the wave?
5. A wave of frequency 400 Hz has a velocity of 320 ms1. Find the distance between the particles differing in
phase by 90

6. When a sound of frequency 300 Hz passes through a medium. The maximum displacement of particle of the
medium is 0.1 cm. Find the maximum velocity of the particle

7. A sinusoidal progressive wave is generated in a string. It’s equation is given by y = (2 mm) sin (2x – 100 t +
/3). Find the time when particle at x = 4 m first passes through mean position

8. Two particles in a medium are vibrating in same phase with a path difference of 10 m and their corresponding
time difference is 0.1 s. Find the speed of wave in the medium

9. Figure shown the shape of part of a long string in which transverse


waves are produced by attaching one end of the string to tuning fork of
frequency 250 Hz. What is the velocity of the waves?
