CHAPTER 1:REAL NUMBERS

 What I learnt:

 Euclid’s Division Lemma

 The Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic
 Rational &Irrratioal Numbers

 What I Found Challenging

 Word Problems

 What I found Interesting

 In mathematics, rational numbers and irrational numbers are together
obtained from set of real number.
 Real numbers are simply the combination of rational and irrational
numbers.
 Arithmetic Operations.

CHAPTER 2: POLYNOMIYALS

 What I learnt:
 Polynomiyals of degreegs 1,2 &3 are called linear, quadratric& cubic
polynomiyals respectively.
 A quadratic polynomial in x with real coefficients is of the form ax2 + bx
+ c, where a, b, c are real numbers with a ≠ 0.
 The zeroes of a polynomial p(x) are precisely the x-coordinates of the
points, where the graph of y = p(x) intersects the x-axis.
 Division Algorithm

 What I found challenging:

 Obtaining zeroes of polynomials having 4 degree.

 What I found interesting

 Relationship between Zeroes and Coefficients of a Polynomial
CHAPTER 3:PAIRS OF LINEAR EQUATIONS IN TWO
VARIABLES

 What I learnt:
 Two linear equations in the same two variables are called a pair of
linear equations in two variables. The most general form of a pair of
linear equations is:
i. a1x + b1y + c1 = 0
ii. a2x + b2y + c2 = 0
 A pair of linear equations in two variables can be represented, and
solved, by the:
(i) graphical method
(ii) algebraic method
 Algebraic Methods : We have discussed the following methods for
finding the solution(s) of a pair of linear equations :
(i) Substitution Method
(ii) Elimination Method
(iii) Cross-multiplication Method

 What I found challenging:

 Case based questions.
 Formation of equation
 What I found interesting:
 A pair of linear equation in two variables ,which has a solution ,is
called a consistent pair of linear equations .A pair of linear equation
which are equivalent has infinitely many distinct common solutions
.Such a pair is called a dependent pair of linear equations in two
variables.
 Cross multiplication Metho
CHAPTER 6: TRIANGLES
 What I learnt:
 Similar figures
 Thales theorem
 Criteria for Similarity of triangles
I. Side side side (SSS)
II. Side Angle Side (SAS)
III. Angle Angle(AA)
 Area of similar triangle
 Pythagoras theorem

 What I found challenging:

 Proving theorems…..

 What I found interesting

 If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other
two sides in distinct points, the other two sides are divided in the same
ratio.
 The ratio of the areas of two similar triangles is equal to the square of
the ratio of their corresponding sides.
CHAPTER 7: COORDINATE GEOMETRY

 What I learnt:

 The distance of a point from the y-axis is called its x-coordinate, or

abscissa.
 The distance of a point from the x-axis is called its y-coordinate, or
ordinate.
 Distance formula.
 Section formula.

 What I found challenging:

 Area of parallelogram
 Case study question

 What I found interesting

 Finding distance between two points
CHAPTER 8:INTRODUCTION TO TRIGONOMETRY

 What I learnt:
 The word ‘trigonometry’ is derived from the Greek words ‘tri’ (meaning
three), ‘gon’ (meaning sides), and ‘metron’ (meaning measure).
 The first use of the idea of ‘sine’ in the way we use it today was in the
work Aryabhatiyam by Aryabhata, in A.D. 500.
 The cosine function arose from the need to compute the sine of the
complementary angle. Aryabhatta called it kotijya.
 The name cosinus originated with Edmund Gunter.
 In 1674, the English Mathematician Sir Jonas Moore first used the
abbreviated notation ‘cos’.
 Finding the values of trigonometric ratios for angles 0°, 30°, 45°, 60°
and 90°.
 Trigonometric identities.

 What I found challenging

 Expressing all trigonometric ratios in terms of any trigonometric ratio.

 What I found interesting:

 Trigonometry is the study of relationships between the sides and angles
of a triangle. The earliest known work on trigonometry was recorded in
Egypt and Babylon.
 The value of sin A or cos A never exceeds 1, whereas the value of sec A
or cosec A is always greater than or equal to 1.
CHAPTER 12: AREAS RELATED TO CIRCLES:
 What I learnt:
 Circumference of a circle.
 Area of a circle.
 circumference of a circle bears a constant ratio with its diameter. This
constant ratio is denoted by the Greek letter π (read as ‘pi’).
 Areas of Sector and Segment of a Circle.
 Areas of Combinations of Plane Figures

 What I found challenging:

 Finding areas of shaded regions between figures..

 What I found interesting:

 Area of segment of a circle = Area of the corresponding sector – Area of
the corresponding triangle.
 Area of major segment =Area of circle –Area of minor segment.

CHAPTER 15:PROBABILITY
 What I have learnt:
 Probability.
 The difference between experimental probability and theoretical
probability.

 What I found challenging

 Question based on cards.

 What I found interesting :

 Probability theory had its origin in the 16th century when an Italian
physician and mathematician J.Cardan wrote the first book on the
subject, The Book on Games of Chance.
 An event having only one outcome of the experiment is called an
elementary event.
 The sum of the probabilities of all the elementary events of an
experiment is one.
 The probability of an event that is impossible to occur is zero. Such an
event is called an impossible event.
