Task 8:speech

Good morning everyone, I am Mr Chow. I would like to talk about a case of discrimination at first.
A student with mild autism was verbally insulted and being singled out in group activities.,which
makes the teenager suffer from serious emotional trauma, extremely low self-esteem and constant
self-doubt. To avoid the teenager keep hurting himself, he can just be taken out from school.
Actually, there are different many parties would be able to prevent such an incident from
happening again. Like the student Affairs Committee is supporting the different but equal campaign.
School will actively monitor for bullying and discrimination and establish a clear procedure for
investigation reports of bullying and discrimination.
Lastly, I encourage all students to take part in the different but equal campaign. There are a lot of
activities, like workshops, drama contest, panel discussion and an exhibition. The workshop aims to
help participants boost their self-esteem. The drama contest finalists will try to give their best
performance while competing for the grand prize. The special commissioner from discrimination
watch will join some of our teachers and students in a panel discussion on equality in school. Last
but not least, the exhibition is going to show the history and equality promotion in Hong Kong
researched and put up by our students. I hope to see you all in the campaign activities.
Task 9 Letter of invitation
Dear Ms Wan
I am writing on behalf of Tony Brown Secondary School Students Affairs Committee to ask
if you want to be a guest judge for our drama contest.
The contest will be held in 30 of June, Friday, at 1.30pm in our school hall. The contest is about a
topic ‘We Are Equally Unique’, which means not to be discrimination and bullying to others. There
are totally 5 classes fighting for the grand prize.
Class 1C is going to perform ‘Differences’, class 1D is going to perform ‘Just be yourself’, class
2A is going to perform ‘Red Card’, class 3B is going to perform ‘The equals’ and class 4A is going
to perform ‘Our Little Secret’.
We think that you are truly a suitable one for being our drama judge. Since you were praised
offstage because of your devotion to helping teenagers and young adults build a positive self-image
while appreciating and accepting their own and other people imperfections, which match the topic
of our drama, to be non-discrimination to others.
You will elevating in five criteria: script, message, direction, delivery and pros. Each of the criteria
carry equal weight and each makes up 20% of the final score.
We truly hope that you will be able to be our drama judge, I am looking forward for your reply.

Yours sincerely
Andy Yu
Task 10 Feature article
Discrimination is happening everywhere. In school or in workplace, you can see discrimination
happens.
At school, you may face bullying by other students, being single-out or something others. At
workplace, you may face companies not hiring people of a particular gender, employers denying
unmarried employees benefits like medical insurance, employees excluded from social activities
and physically or verbally abused by colleagues.
There are a lot of ways to protect you or others from discrimination. For children with disabilities,
they will be protected by the anti-discrimination laws. Those children have the rights to attend
regular schools and are entitled to specific support and facilities to suit their particular learning
needs. Besides, the law can also ensure employment rights. Under the anti-discrimination laws,
everyone is equal when It comes to seeking employment, as their right to be hired or promoted is
protected.
Except laws, different parties could also do something to deal with discrimination. For example,
some of the local groups have urged the government to improve their current educational policies
for non-chinese-speaking students, so as to improve their chances in education and prospects of
future employment. Moreover, the group We Are Heroes is also a party that help people to build
self-esteem which will encourage themselves to live happily in their daily life.
