1 Warnings and legal information

This manual gives guidelines to the use and installation of the DEIF multi-line 2 units. It is, however, not a complete installation
instruction. Therefore, even if terminal numbers may be shown in the drawings, the drawings are to be used as guidance only.

Installing and operating the multi-line 2 units implies work with dangerous currents and voltages, and therefore only
qualified personnel should do it.

During the installation care must be taken to protect the terminals against static discharges. Once the units are installed and
connected, these precautions are no longer necessary.

DEIF takes no responsibility for operation or installation of the generator set. If there is any doubt about how to install or
operate the system on which the multi-line 2 unit is measuring, the company responsible for the installation or the operation
must be contacted.

2 Function descriptions

2.1 Controllers
The working way of the PI controller outputs is described in the Designers Reference Handbook of multi-line 2.

The outputs can be relay or analogue 20…0…20 mA.

2.2 multi-line 2 GPC/PPU option D1

2.2.1 Binary input selection of control mode

The binary inputs called mode 4 and 5 (terminals 51 and 52, common terminal 56) can be used to select the control method as
follows:

Input Mode 4 Mode 5

Mode (terminal 51) (terminal 52)
Fixed voltage (stand-alone generator) OFF OFF
Fixed var (fixed reactive power) ON OFF
Fixed PF (fixed power factor) OFF ON
var sharing (island plant reactive power sharing) ON ON

The set-point for voltage/reactive power/power factor is normally set internally, voltage as the nominal setting, var and power factor
set in specific settings.

4043 Controller Power factor (inductive) 0.60 1.00 0.90

NOTE:
The 0…100% var relates to the nominal power (Pnom, setting 4012) of the generator, just to have a figure to relate to.

2.2.2 Binary input selection of external set-point

The binary input called mode 6 (terminals 53 and 56) can be used to activate the use of an analogue input as reference.

The set-point input is terminal 42(+) and 41(-), and the signal level is +/-10 VDC.

Mode Mode 6 (terminal 51) ON

Fixed voltage (stand-alone generator) +/-10 VDC input ~ nominal voltage +/-10%
Fixed var (fixed reactive power) 0…10 VDC input ~ 0…100% reactive power *
Fixed PF (fixed power factor) 0…10 VDC input ~ 1…0.6 inductive PF
var sharing (island plant reactive power sharing) +/-10 VDC input ~ nominal voltage +/-10%

* NOTE:
The 0…100% relates to the nominal power (Pnom, setting 4012) of the generator, just to have a figure to relate to.

2.2.3 Voltage control

Voltage deadband % setting is only relevant for voltage control relay outputs and relates to nominal generator voltage. If analogue
output is used, the deadband setting is ignored.

2193 Voltage control U KI 0 1000 160

2.2.4 var controller

var deadband % setting is only relevant for voltage control relay outputs and relates to nominal generator power value, i.e. it is
assumed that the generator var value is the same as the kW value. This is not correct, but the assumption is made for control
purposes only. If analogue output is used, the deadband setting is ignored.

No. Setting Min. setting Max. setting Factory setting

2203 var control Q KI 0 1000 160

2.2.5 Power factor (PF) controller

PF control is being carried out using the var control settings.

2.2.6 Relay control

This setting is used to tune in the GOV/AVR ON time when relay outputs are being used for control. The total relay ON time will
depend on the deviation from the set-point. tN is the minimum time the relay can be activated. This is further described under PI
controller in the Designers Reference Handbook.

2054 Sync. window Output B R0 (none) R15 (relay 15) R0 (none)
2055 Sync. window Enable OFF ON OFF

The function deactivates the synchronisation if the voltage level on the busbar is out of range according to the nominal generator
voltage. The purpose of the delay function is that a short intermittent voltage dive does not block the synchronising.

Even though the maximum output setting is R15, the setting is limited by the options selected. An alarm will be displayed if a wrong
relay is chosen.

This function is mainly used with a relay configured as a limit contact. This is done in the system setup channels 4600 to 4730.

2.2.8 Governor/AVR regulation failure

These alarm functions are activated when the “Start sync./control” input (terminal 25) is ON. The alarms are activated if the difference
between the measured value and the set-point is out of the alarm deadband.
