History is the study of the past events connected with something such as
societies, people, and problems of the past. The word History has been derived from the
Greek word “Historia” which means knowledge acquired thru investigating. A person
who studies history is called, Historian. Historians are concerned with the continuous,
methodical narrative and research of past events as relating to humanity, as well as the
study of all history in time. Historian generally concerned with the cause, problems, and
significance of the events. Historian oftens discuss the essence and the usefulness of the
history.

Historian produces knowledges about the past. History gave us prior


knowledge of the things in the past. By studying history, it defines the culture of our
ancestors, on how they respect each other. History also makes us to understand the world
we are living. It also helps us to understand ourselves and to the others.

The word “Kasaysayan” is the Filipino term of history, it is coming from the
root word “saysay” which mean narrative, importance and relevance. So, when we say
the word kasaysayan, we are not only pertaining the past events, in addition, we are
telling the importance of the said events. According to Zeus Salazar, “Ang kasayssayan
ay isang salaysay na may saysay para sa sinasalaysayang grupo ng tao”. Zeus Salazar, is
a Filipino historian, anthropologist, and philosopher of history. He earns the title “Father
of New Philippine Historiagraphy”.

In studying of history, historians use historical sources. And as the time
pass by this materials are getting little by little. Maybe, there are only little usable
materials left for historians to use because it may already be used or have depleted over
time, or due to climate conditions, wars, or the environmental factors. Letters, diaries,
photograph are just an examples of primary resources that a historian used to study a
history. Primary sources provide a first-hand account of an event or time period and are
authoritative. They represent original thinking, reports on discoveries or events, or they
can share new information. They often attempt to describe or explain primary sources.
Now, the historical sources were displayed at the museum.
