Note: Anchors subjected to high cycle fatigue or impact load are not covered by ACI 318-19, Chapter 17.
Note: For cast-in headed bolts and hooked bolts the anchor shear strength must be reduced by a factor of
0.6. No reduction is required for cast-in headed stud anchors.
Where anchor is used with built-up grout pads and wooden sill plates, the anchor shear strength
must be reduced by an additional factor of 0.8, Section 17.7.1.2.1.
Is concrete breakout strength for shear checked? Yes/No
Is s < 3ca1? Yes/No
Note: If Yes, anchors must be considered as group anchors in design, Section 17.5.1.3.1.
Is the group of anchors welded to a steel plate? Yes/No
Note: If Yes, ca1 is the distance from the edge to the farthest anchor row that is selected as critical. Steel
plate thickness must be the greater of 3/8 in. (9.5 mm) and 1/2da, and minimum spacing between
anchors must be not less than 2.5 in.
Is ca2 < 1.5ca1 and ha < 1.5ca1? Yes/No
Note: If yes, then ca1 is the largest of: ca2/1.5; ha/1.5; and s/3, Section 17.7.2.1.2
Is anchor reinforcement provided? Yes/No
Note: If Yes, concrete breakout failure is precluded and calculation per Section 17.7.2 is not required.
Reinforcement must be developed beyond failure plane as shown in figure below.

Anchor data
Post-installed mechanical anchor diameter, da:
1/4” 3/8” 1/2” 5/8” 3/4” 1”
Is f’c greater than the maximum allowed; 8000 psi (55 MPa)? Yes/No
Note: If Yes, then 8000 psi (55 MPa) must be used to satisfy the code design requirements, Section 17.3.1.
Base Material Thickness, ha = in./mm
Note: Unless determined from tests in accordance with ACI 355.2, then use values per Section 17.9.4
Min. allowable embedment depth: 4da
Max. allowable embedment depth the greater of: 2/3 of ha and ha – 4 in. (he – 100 mm) or per ACI
355.2, Section 17.9.4.
Note: Strength reduction factors are based on installation sensitivity, Section 17.5.3, Table 17.5.3(b).
Minimum distance from anchor shaft center to the edge of concrete, ca1 = in./mm
Note: The minimum edge distance is the greater of:
Requirements for the products as determined by tests in accordance with ACI 355.2, or
Requirements per Section 20.5.1.3 and 20.5.1.4, if anchor is not torqued, but
Not less than twice the maximum aggregate size.
If product specific test information is not available, then minimum edge distance is as follows per
Section 17.9.2(b):
Undercut anchor: 6da
Torque-controlled anchor: 8da
Displacement-controlled anchor: 10da
If anchor installation does not produce splitting or anchors are not torqued and the edge distance is
less than the requirements specified above, then calculations are performed by substituting, da, with a
smaller anchor diameter, da`, that meets the requirements above.
If yes, critical edge distance, cac = in./mm
Note: Critical edge distance, cac, is determined from tests based on ACI 335.2, or use as a minimum the
following per Section 17.9.5:
Undercut anchors 2.5hef
Torque-controlled expansion anchors 4hef
Displacement-controlled expansion anchors 4hef

Does the product sheet indicate that the system meets the assessment criteria of ACI 355.4? Yes/No
Note: Anchors subjected to high cycle fatigue or impact load are not covered by ACI 318-19, Chapter 17.
