Education is given different amounts of significance around the

globe. Where I come from, India, and my religion, Hinduism, place a
lot of importance on education. Because for many that’s the only way
to climb up the social ladder. Not many people start their own
businesses, and there’s not a lot of option when it comes to
education. For most, its a sink or swim situation. In order to come
out on top, they really must put their all into their studies. When I
still lived there, I had to do 3 hours of homework in first grade,
and we only got recess on saturdays. That sounds unbelievable to most
Americans, because to them education is something thats guaranteed,
and they have other ways of making a living. In India, education
equals respect, and your place in society. While there may not be a
caste system buy name, the amount of respect youre received with, is
heavily influenced by how you perform on tests, and what college you
attended.

kids in her country so desperate to succeed, or maybe it was the fear
that drive them to channel their childhoods into textbooks, and

Maybe this sight desensitized them to the suffering, considering that
it was a reality for so many.
