Montgomery Baptists will Proclaim the “Gospel Above All” by:

Meeting Human Need While Planting Gospel Seed; Revitalizing, Planting & Replanting Churches; Calling Out the Called

MBA’s 140th Anniversary:

See You Soon at Homecoming!
“Calling Out the Called”
Happy Anniversary, Montgomery Baptists! We will
be joining together to celebrate our 140th year of
proclaiming the love of Christ in the River Region.
In truth, the MBA was first named the Alabama
Baptist Association. So when you add those two
entities, we are over 200 years old. In the early days
of Alabama’s settlement, three Baptist associations
formed around the new cities of the state where
churches were being developed. Then, in 1825, the
Alabama Baptist Convention was formed, and there
Neal Hughes began a migration away from state names to local
Director of Missions
names for their association.
In the early days of the 1881 MBA, our territory was as far north as Chilton
County, as far south as Butler County, as far east as Lee and Tallapoosa
Counties, and as far west as Perry County. Over the years, we have seen
other associations take the outer regions, and we now claim Montgomery
County, Lowndes County, and a small portion of Elmore County. Another
way to say it is we are just north of Greenville, just east of Selma, just south
of downtown Millbrook, and just west of Shorter.
Presently, your MBA works side by side with seventy-five God-fearing,
Bible-preaching churches. We are diverse, with all kinds of churches of
many different languages, sizes, and traditions. Yet with all the diversity,
we are united at the cross. Together, we walk with the Holy Spirit in our
heart and the Bible in our hand to preach the “gospel above all” to the River
Region of Central Alabama.
Monday, November 1, at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, is our annual
homecoming. I call it “homecoming” because I think it is vital that we
attempt to get Montgomery Baptists in one place to worship and celebrate
all the Lord is choosing to do through each of us at least one time a year. I
want to invite you to participate in the MBA Hallelujah Choir. Note also
that childcare is available. We have also built the evening with sensitivity so
that you can get home at a decent hour (out by 8 pm). Would you please
make every effort to invite your friends to come visit friends from other
MBA churches?
Here is the breakdown for Monday, November 1:
12:00 pm - Ministers Lunch. For ministers. Dr. Willie McLaurin will
speak to our ministers offering wisdom and encouragement.
4:30 pm – Business Session. For messengers. We will approve the annual
budget, the nominating committee recommendations, and four new
churches.
5:30 pm – Mission Fair. All are invited. We will have a finger food dinner
accompanied by numerous displays from community ministries in our state.
Prizes will be given, plus much more.
6:30 pm - Homecoming Celebration. All are invited. Along with the MBA
Hallelujah Choir, we will be blessed to have Dr. Willie McLaurin, vice
president for Great Commission Relations and Mobilization at the SBC
Executive Committee, with us. This strong African American preacher will
also be with our pastors at the noon hour at Eastern Hills.
Preschool Care along with a Children Mission Experience
will be available during the above hours with reservations.
I look forward to seeing each of you there. Mary and I are honored that you
would allow us the privilege of serving alongside you in the River Region.
Always remember,
Together We Can! Neal
