What you keep before your eyes will assuredly affect you. You will produce what you are continually seeing
in your mind. If you foster an image of defeat and failure, then you are going to live that kind of life but if
you develop an image of victory and abundance nothing on earth will be able to hold those things from you.
To be able to gain victory one must enlarge his vision and exert an extra effort on his works.

With the school management’s wide vision for success, Dr. Maria Zenaida D. Clemente, Mr. Darwin D.
Clemente, together with the teachers of St. Clement Academy went to OB (Operation Brotherhood)
Montessori last November 7, 2009. That is to adapt new and effective strategies and techniques for
teaching and for managing the school. This is one of our practices in school because we believe that there
is always a room for improvement. The said observation enables the management to look for more facilities
which are conducive to learning and more so for the teachers to make teaching more fun. Sometimes to
make something possible a person should explore his boundaries and make some observations. We just
only want to prove that we are more than a willing to give what is due to our students.

Knowing that a teacher has always been expected to prepare the young minds to become upright and
active citizens of this country a teacher needs to develop certain competencies and skills to become more
effective. A teacher shouldn’t settle for mediocrity instead we should exude excellence!!!
For me, a teacher need not to think of how much he or she will get, but rather of how much the students
will learn. Teachers must also think less for themselves and commit themselves to their tasks, because not
all material gain can outshine the pleasures one derives from teaching especially when one enjoys the
humanity and the humaneness of people in the work environment. For me, seeing a positive transformation
among my students is one of the best credos of fulfilment .

Buwan ng Wika is one of the annual celebrations in St. Clement Academy to give tribute for our beloved
President Manuel L. Quezon who made the Filipinos proud of their country. Filipinos identity is
something we can be proud of. Aside from being hospitable and loving people, Filipinos can offer the
best to the world. We have different cultures that can be showed using our talents.

It is said that language, particularly verbal language, is only a medium for getting a particular message
across. The manner by which the message is sent and the channel through which it is delivered, and
some other factors, are just but a structure of support. The large chunk of significance in communication
rests on the message itself.

As we reminisced the spirit of the Buwan ng Wika last August 28, 2009, it was one of the unforgettable
activities that made by the students of St. Clement Academy. This activity was spearheaded by Mrs.
Quila Francisco who really gave a big effort to make the whole celebration successful. It started with a
holy prayer from the members of Doxology, while the National Anthem was conducted by the SCA Drum
and Lyre Members. The emcee for this celebration was Mrs. Almira Crisostomo, the Academic
Coordinator from Pre-elementary-Gr. IV. But before each performance started Dr. Maria Zenaida D.
Clemente, school directress, gave her meaningful words regarding the importance of language to
everyone. Each grade level performed different presentations. The costumes were all prepared by their
advisers together with the cooperation of their parents. Kinder A and Grade I presented a folk dances
wearing their native costumes. Kinder B and the Pre-school department presented a modern dance as
well as the Grade II who performed the La Jota. The Grade III class was divided into two groups that
showed the so-called “Sayaw sa Bakya” and speech choir. And lastly for the first batch the Grade IV
students presented an ethnic dance that usually performed in a ritual of our ancestors.

For the second batch of celebration the Grade V-Honesty and Integrity performed a speech choir under
the supervision of Mrs. Rhea Alma Manahan and Sakuting, which was taught by Sir Ruel Gamboa. The
Grade VI-Loyalty under the supervision of Ms. Annabelle Sacdalan was also divided into four groups,
they performed the following: Pandanggo sa Ilaw, Palayok, Interpretation of the song Bababero and the
highlights of their section was the performance of little boys with the music entitled Mr. Suave, which
was also the most applauded number on the said event. For the High school department, the first year
class under the supervision of Sir Rommel Cruz performed an ethnic dance called RARAGSAKAN. While
the II-St. John under the supervision of Mrs. Marilou Bayarcal presented the so-called PANAGBENGA
which we usually see at Baguio City but the third year class under the supervision of Mrs. Maria Quila
Francisco interpreted the first stage play performed at Buwan ng Wika. The stage play was entitled
“Procopia” which presents the life of being a teenager. The school were very glad to see the students
who were not expected to show their talents did their best to make their teachers and parents proud.

As a Filipino, we should not forget our old traditions, culture, customs, beliefs, and values. We should
love our own country especially our own language. Let’s not just recognize the essence of nationalism
every month of August but also for the rest of the year. This can be done by internalizing the worthwhile
Filipino values in everything we do and dream about.

We can say that this celebration wouldn’t be successful without the help of each teacher advisers who
really gave their best to make us learn. So, as a student it is a must to thank our teachers for their
patience and hard work.

“Education is a key to success” is a common quotation which explains the need to undergo
formal education that a student needs to study all the major and minor subjects. Actually,
both learners and teachers spend most of their time in a so-called SCHOOL. Did you ever ask
yourself if they aren’t yet exhausted to their routinely activities?

Our school believes that educational tour is needed to help students explore things outside
the school. Knowledge should not be closed in a box but it should experience every significant
detail of human life, and that can be achieved through approaching the outside world of
classrooms. This is because we cannot just learn inside the four walls of our classrooms,
that’s why St. Clement Academy held an educational tour last October 26, 2009.

The students from pre-school to grade four departments went to Gardenia located at
Calamba, Laguna to see how quality breads are made. They also went to Tagaytay Mini Zoo to
see different kinds of animal and they also went to Glorietta1 to watch stage ply entitled
“Jack and the Beanstalk”. The students enjoyed their tour especially when they’re at the bus
talking about what will be their next destination. At Gardenia plant they enjoyed watching
the production of breads. Some of the students smell the good aroma of the soft breads that
they’re looking at they also wondered what will be its product. On the other hand some of
the actors and actresses of Jack and the Beanstalk lively interact at the audience. They asked
some students to join them onstage on some of their child-act scenes. Some of the students
joined the baseball act and they were also invited to dance with them.

Traditionally, every trip will not be complete without picture takings, so when the students
came to school they were still talking about their joyful experiences while showing pictures to
one another.

…From left (the façade of the main building, the annex building, and the rooms on the 2 nd floor of the main building)

“To move forward to life, we must change our focus-we must believe.”
For my five years of studying at St. Clement Academy I’ve seen so many changes not only on the physical features
of the school but also with the members of what I’m calling my second family because every year we are expanding
and that is one thing that I love here.

St. Clement Academy (SCA) was established on February 12, 2002 which was originally named ST. Clement
Learning Center International, Inc. On February 10, 2003 the name of the school was changed to St. Clement
Academy. To make the long story shorter here is the short summary of the school’s yearly enrollees.

SY.2003-2004 157 students

SY 2004-2005 242 students
SY 2005-2006 273 students
SY 2006-2007 317 students
SY 2007-2008 342 students
SY 2008-2009 433 students
SY 2009-2010 468 students
The table shows the increasing number of enrollees of St. Clement Academy from school year 2002-2003 up to the present.

SCA (St. Clement Academy) is growing bigger and stronger in its every year of operation. On its fifth year of
existence the school opened its Campus II located at North Highlands Subdivision, Stma.Trinidad, Malolos City in
order to accommodate the opening of its high school program. The school administrators are guided by their beliefs
that each child deserves equal opportunity to be developed and the means in achieving this end is through “Shared
Responsibility” between the parents and the school. The Clemente family has shown their successful management of
the school.

Have you ever wondered about the name of the school? Did you ever think that the school’s name came from their
surname? It is normal that when you are building your own business, you really need to consider its name, right?
Coming up to the name of the school was one of their dilemmas because some of the proposed names were rejected
because of their similarities with some of the existing schools nationwide. But when the Clemente family had their
vacation in Singapore, their tourist guide led them to one of the Catholic Churches in the said country for the tourist
guide knew that they are Catholics. Do you know what is exciting there? Guess what is the name of the church? The
name of the church is St. Clement Church in honor of Pope Clement I. So from there they decided to name their
school as St. Clement Academy. Now, may we think that the holy name of the school is their secret key to success?
We can put it that way plus their optimistic point of view, determination, and hard work to put their perspectives
into action. So far the school has seen the success of its students in all genres.

The management of the school proved that when you think positive, excellent thoughts will propel you toward
greatness.

Our Lady of the Rosary

By: Mr. Darwin D. Clemente

October 7 marks the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary, in honor of this Catholic tradition; Catholic
students were encouraged to join the regular living rosary at the school gymnasium. To make the prayer
more solemn, religious hymns were sung by selected students at the start of each mystery.

The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary was established in 1571 by St. Pius V to commemorate the naval
battle of Lepanto. The victory of the Christian fleet over the Turks was attributed to the Virgin Mary,
whose help was invoked through praying the Holy Rosary.

According to venerable tradition, this beautiful prayer was revealed to St. Dominic by the Blessed
Mother. The 150 Hail Marys correspond to the number of Psalms. The first part of the Hail Mary was
taken from the gospel of St. Luke., while the second was added by the tradition of the Church. The
response we repeat after every decade – O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, was dictated by the Virgin Mary
to the three visionaries of Fatima in 1917.

The Rosary is made up of twenty "mysteries" (significant events or moments in the life of Jesus and
Mary), which, following the Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae, are grouped into four series.

The first contains joyful mysteries (recited on Mondays and Saturdays); the second, the mysteries of
light (Thursdays); the third, the sorrowful mysteries (Tuesdays and Fridays); and the fourth, the glorious
mysteries (Wednesdays and Sundays).

Plastics Out!!!
By: Comille Arriane M. Flores

There is no doubt that our lives will not run smoothly without using PLASTICS. Try to look around; it is undeniable
that most materials that surround the world are made up of plastic. When you buy an item in bookstore, at the
market, or even at department store where the vendor / saleslady will put the items that you buy? The answer is
plastic… but despite all the benefits that we can get in using plastics, it can also give us harm. We have witnessed
how it ruined the world. Plastic can cause pollution especially when used and disposed improperly, because this,
our beloved Governor Jonjon R. Mendoza decided to formulate a policy regarding the prohibition of using plastics
here in the wide province of Bulacan. This is because non-biodegradable materials have been a major cause of
waterways clog-up , notwithstanding the other adverse effect of plastic particularly to the health of our citizenry.
Moreover, accumulated deposit of the same in major waterways in the province increases the possibility of
flashfloods which can cause catastrophic effect to properties and place innocent lives at risk in the Province of
Bulacan. This is an urgent need to reduce the amount of plastic wastes which pose an immeasurable hazard to
health and environment.

Governor Jonjon Mendoza signed the Executive Order regarding this matter last October 31, 2009 and the
implementation started last November 2, 2009. This executive order states that person caught violating this law
shall be penalized in accordance with section 49 of RA 9003.

If any part or provision of this executive order is held invalid or unconstitutional by any court of competent
authority, the other parts or provisions not affected shall remain valid and effective. This order shall be posted in
conspicuous places in all offices and hospital under the provincial government of Bulacan.

Regarding this matter, I think many Bulakenos will disagree, but I think proper implementation of this policy will
lead this matter to success. Authorities must educate our people about the importance of this scenario. If only this
order becomes successful, Bulacan will become a better place to live in.

“Let’s cheer, not jeer”
By: Zia Danica Marcos

Basketball is one of the sports enjoyed not only by adults but also by children. It helps one’s skill to
develop their determination to play and use their tactics in playing basketball. This sport needs a hard
training to fulfil the goal of the players. Basketball players take a lot of sacrifices in training especially the
patience inside the court.

Last October 16, 2009, Wynne Arboleda of the Burger King made a big issue for the Philippine Basketball
Association (PBA). Arboleda is now facing the consequences of his action which was reportedly by a
fan’s curses. He landed a kick and punches from the side court fan of the opponent’s team. After the
incident, PBA Committee decided to suspend Arboleda for the rest of the season and expecting charges
of physical injury that Arboleda’s license will be revoked by the Games Amusement Board or GAB. The
suspension is said to be the league's heaviest sanction to date.

This incident showed the unprofessionalism of one of the most admired player in PBA. It was not a good
example for those who want to be like them. A player must control their emotions inside and outside
the court and there is no tolerable reason once they cross the line of hurting fans. But PBA
Commissioner said that the fans should also be more conscientious when they watched games. “Let’s
cheer not jeer”, he added.

A player must know the value of good sportsmanship. It is when teammates, opponents, coaches, and
officials treat each other with respect. They should understand that the real winners in sports are those
who know how to persevere and to behave with dignity. Everybody knows that games and sports create
friendship and closer relationships among the Filipino youth in the greater Montreal area.

We can’t control everything that happens in our lives. Sometimes life turns out to be friendlier than what we
expect. Although we have such happy moments in life, we also have to go through difficult situations. One of those
was the typhoon that had taken so many lives, desolated a million worth of properties, and took the hopes to
pursue living. In such instances, it will be difficult- if not downright impossible- for some to utter the line
“Everything happens for a reason”.

Problems elicit different reactions from different people. Some have difficulty finding their way out of the
trouble. Others who go through the same thing suffer for a while, and later decide that it is the perfect time to
move on to better and more promising things in life.

It is normal and perfectly human to feel sad or even depressed about certain moments in our lives. Go ahead and
cry when you feel that life has been unfair. Sulk over a lost love and think about what went wrong. Allow yourself
to worry what could happen to you and to your family after the storms, but you have to realize too that crying,
sulking, and worrying will have to stop. Do not allow these emotions to gain power over your ability to move on.
How do you do this?

First, after giving yourself time to grieve, you will have to tell yourself that it’s time to bounce back into the re3al
and normal you!!! Go back to the regular routine and get involved in the things that matter to you most. Only you
can decide that for yourself. No amount of support from others will help you if you don’t help yourself first.

Second, don’t be a hermit. Although reflection is best done alone, there is also value in being open to ideas other
than your own.

Third, freely talk about your experience with others. One of the best manifestations of being ready to bounce
back is one’s ability to share their experiences with others and to encourage those who are experiencing difficulties
to be strong and move on. Allow yourself to find confidence in the strength you have displayed in overcoming your
own challenges. See each crisis as an opportunity to become more matured, instead of taking it as a deterrent to
your growth.

In spite of all the problems that life is offering us we ought to consider that God is in control. We have to
remember that God never tests us beyond our capabilities. Keep in mind that no one determines the kind of
person you will become except YOURSELF!!!
When Nature Cracks Joke...

“Peace is not the calm after the storm, but the calm during the storm”

The whole Philippines have witnessed how a one second could change everything. Nobody thought that
life could be totally transformed in just a blink of an eye. Last September 26, 2009, we experienced the
devastating touch of Ondoy that have taken so many lives and a billion worth of properties.

When calamities occur, some people immediately think that they have done something wrong, that God
must merely be chastising them. What they don’t understand is that God has a divine purpose for every
challenge that comes into our lives. God permits us to go through them.

Is that a so-called CURSE? I must say NO!!! The Scripture speaks temptations, trials, and difficulties must
come because if we are to strengthen our spiritual muscles and grow stronger, we must have adversities to
overcome and attacks to resist. Moreover, it’s in the tough times of life that we find out what we are really
made of.

The real scenario is that people tend to kneel for a prayer when experiencing a great catastrophe, but how
about during the times when we are on cloud nine? Do we remember God? Do we utter a single prayer? I’m
challenging you to answer that. Now, can we say that Ondoy for instance is just a wakeup call for us to put
our lives in balance? Notice, trial is intended to test our quality, character, and faith. God is using those trials
to refine, to cleanse, and to purify us. He is trying to shape us into the person He wants us to be. It’s safe to
say that we have reaped what we have sowed. If we will only learn to work with God, absolutely we will be
amazed at the blessings, favor, and victory that will come into our lives.

As queer as it may seem, trials can be beneficial. Bayanihan is still a living proof. We have seen how people
extended their hands for unlimited help. How Filipinos dedicated their lives to others and that dedication
doesn’t seem to be a sacrifice but an exhilarating experience. And maybe that is what God wants- to love our
neighbors.

What happened to our brethren is not something to be ignored. Climate change poses a serious problem. It
is never too late to do something. Let us stop blaming other people for this misfortune. We should not dilly-
dally our remaining time for we never know when does the END come. It will be better if we will be seeing
this crisis as an opportunity to bounce back and to get back on the main track.
BY: Jefferlyn Joy dela Cruz and Czarina Christelle Alyannah Celis

Great typhoons had come to the territory of our country these past few months. These great typhoons
caused disaster to many places. They damaged infrastructure and agricultural crops. No one had thought that
these typhoons would come to these results.

Last September 24, 2009 typhoon Ondoy with an international name of Ketsana was estimated to be 330 km
northeast of Virac, Catanduanes entering the Philippine area of responsibility. The storm was not expected to
be that strong because it was just a tropical storm but Ondoy surprised the Filipino citizens by its strong wind
and continuous rainfall. Because of the huge damaged of Ondoy the government decided to declare Metro
Manila and 25 other provinces under state of calamity. Marikina City was the most devastated city among
other storm-hit areas wherein almost all of the area of the city was submerged into more than ten feet of
water and knee level of tons of mud. Provident Village one of the finest residential areas in Marikina was also
submerged in water where at least eight people was found dead. Marikina city recorded the highest list of
deaths among Metro Manila. Ondoy left many damages in the Philippines, as of September 28, 2009 the total
damage of Ondoy was estimated at $100 million.

In the middle of this situation typhoon Ondoy helped the Filipino people to show bayanihan in the modern
day. Filipinos show to the world how helpful they are to the needy. There are also stories of heroism wherein
these modern day heroes save the life of others even though they know how hard it is to risk their own
different ways. In the middle of this phenomenon we see how people care for others no matter what is the
status of their life.

Finally, Ondoy left the area but it is followed by another typhoon named “Pepeng”. This typhoon hit
provinces and two islands under storm alert levels. These provinces were in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur,
Allay, Quezon, Aurora, Sorsogon, Birias Island and Pololio Island in Luzon: and Northern Samar in Visayas.
Pepeng is the 16th weather disturbance that hit the Philippines this year. The country has not yet recovered
from the devastation caused by tropical storm “Ondoy” which claimed many lives, damaged infrastructure,
and agricultural crops.

Weather had been tough. Another typhoon came to the Philippines and that was “Ramil”. Ramil is a tropical
storm that intensified into a typhoon overnight. They forecast that it could spare Luzon and head for Taiwan.
The typhoon Ramil headed on Southern Luzon. This incident made many residents of Southern Luzon to
another difficult situation.

But in every rain there comes a rainbow after it. The passion for everyone was shown. Everyone did their best
to help our fellowmen. With this action the damage caused by the recent typhoons will be recovered easily
because everyone is in helping hands.

This incident made us realize how blessed we are that nothing happens to us and to our family. This made us
feel that every little thing that surrounds us is important. It also teaches both of us how to conserve our
Mother Nature because this is the reflection of what we did to our environment. This is nearly the result of
climate change. We really hope that a number of storms that we experienced would be a wakeup call to all of
us to start a brand new life and be a nature lover.

A loving mother, a good Filipino citizen, an icon of democracy dies at the age of 76 last
August 1, 2009 at 3:10am. I am pertaining to the first woman president of the Philippines,
Corazon Cojuanco-Aquino. She finally accompanied her husband in God’s paradise.

Many people admire her for what she did for our country. She undeniably changed our
perception for yellow as a hue. As a student we have known her for being the wife of Ninoy
Aquino and a former president of our country. Behind this, I always think of her as a God’s
angel because of her kind heart and good leadership. Thinking of what she did for our country
like the EDSA revolution we might think that she somehow has a “superwoman abilities”. Her
simplicity and meekness towards people captured the heart of many people not only in our
country but also around the world. Apart from doing great things, during her times she never
forgets to thank the Lord which made me more fascinated about her. Her heroism is very
unique in a way that no one will be able to do it. She used her faith in God to be able to
overcome all the struggles that came her way. She always prays for our country. Her
religiousness is one of her characteristics that cannot be compared to any other presidents of
our country.

We have lost a very great person in our country. For me, I lost a grandmother although I
haven’t met her and know her whole life; it’s like losing someone very important to me. She
had inclined me in praying the rosary. Her good advocacy for other people is one of the
reasons why I like to join volunteer groups and extend my hands to many people. Whenever I
saw her on the television holding the rosary, the quintessence of praying will always come on
my mind and that the status in life is not a hindrance in doing it. I am really mesmerized each
time she says that “the Filipino is worth living for” counterpart of the popular line of Ninoy
Aquino that “the Filipinos are worth dying for”. With these words we see how much they
loved our country. They served our country without waiting anything in return.

When Tita Cory took her last breath, we have witnessed that the entire Philippines
sympathized for her family. We saw how Filipino shed tears for her death, and from that time
I realized that yellow become a color for lamentation. Undoubtedly, Cory Aquino made an
indelible mark in the history of our county.
At the midst of crisis that our country is facing nowadays, I’m asking myself “Will there be
another tough leader like Cory Aquino that will stand for us and fight for our democracy?
What will happen to our motherland if Cory didn’t exist?” This question formulated in my
mind and I think her death serves as a challenge not only to the present leaders of our
country but also for the youth to take a move to make this country a better nation once
more. With this, we must establish to others what we learned from her great works.

Knowing that the 2010 election is approaching too fast, I am just hoping that Cory Aquino
would live again in different personas. The challenge today is that we take hold of ourselves.
Let us be united in achieving progress. Let us prove this time that development will never be
an unfinished business again.

Yes It’s Magic

By: Blue Butterfly

It’s the first time for my heart to beat like this

Such wonderful feeling of happiness
And if it’s fallacy, I wish I’m not in reality
Coz it’s neither falsity nor even fantasy

To love without reason is not an impossible thing

Don’t always find reason to the joy it brings
Don’t let yourself suffer from perplexity
Coz love will soon reveal its secrecy

My promises will never be put into oblivion

Coz this love of mine knows no condition
And you are free to see this through my eyes
That I’m not telling you a lie

Yes, I know that magic has its own ending

But that doesn’t hinder me to keep on fighting
Not even interferes me from believing
That our love will definitely have a happy ending

Heart breaks and heart mends
But deep in our hearts we know
That destiny will find a way for us
To meet once again

Who Am I?

I am the author of my life

I write with my pen not with my pencil
I am not afraid to commit mistakes
Because I am willing to learn

I am the singer of my own theme song

I don’t care if I sing out of rhyme
Because I am the composer of my songs
And I will perform it well

I am the dancer of my own beat

I dance wholeheartedly
I don’t care if I don’t dance well
Because I have my own music

I am the leader of my life

I lead my own way
I just want it to be
I don’t obey if needed

I love what I love

I hate what I hate
I am not perfect
And I absolutely love it

MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES
By: Comille Arianne Flores

The theory of multiple intelligences was developed in 1983 by Dr. Howard Gardner, professor
of education at Harvard University. It suggests that the traditional notion of intelligence, based on I.Q.
testing, is far too limited, therefore, he decided to propose the eight different intelligences to account
for a broader range of human potential in children and adults.

First kind of multiple intelligences is Bodily-kinesthetic. This area has to do with body
movements and physiology. In theory, people who have bodily-kinesthetic intelligence should learn
better by involving muscular movement, getting up and moving around into the learning experience ,
and are generally good at physical activities such as sports or dance, They may enjoy acting or
performing, and in general they are good at building and making things. They often learn best by doing
something physically, rather than reading or hearing about it. Those with strong bodily-kinesthetic
intelligence seem to muse what might be termed muscle memory – they remember things through their
body such as verbal memory or images.

Careers that suit those with this intelligence include athletes, dancers, actors, surgeons,
doctors, builders, and soldiers. Although these careers can be duplicated through virtual simulation they
will not produce the actual physical learning that is needed in this intelligence.

Second kind is the Interpersonal intelligence, which has to do with others. In theory, people
who have high interpersonal intelligence tend to be extroverts, characterized by their sensitivity to
others’ moods, feelings, temperaments and motivations, and their ability to cooperate in order to work
as part of a group, they communicate effectively and empathize easily with others, and may be either
leader or followers. They typically learn best by working with others and often enjoy discussion and
debate.

Third kind is the Verbal- linguistic, it has to do with words, spoken or written. People with high
verbal-linguistic intelligence display a facility with words and languages. They are typically good at
reading, writing, telling stories and memorizing words along with dates. They tend to learn best by
reading, taking notes, listening to lectures, and discussion and debate. They are also frequently skilled at
explaining, teaching and oration or persuasive speaking. Those with verbal-linguistic intelligence learn
foreign languages very easily as they have verbal memory and recall, and an ability to understand and
manipulate syntax and structure.

This intelligence is highest in writers, lawyers, philosophers, journalists, politicians, poets, and
teachers.

Fourth kind is the Logical-mathematical that has to do with logic, abstractions, reasoning, and
numbers. While it is often assumed that those with this intelligence naturally excel in mathematics,
chess, computer programming and other logical or numerical activities, a more accurate definition
places emphasis on traditional mathematical ability and more reasoning capabilities, abstract patterns of
recognition, scientific thinking and investigation, and the ability to perform complex calculations. It
correlates strongly with traditional concepts of intelligence.
I suggest to those who excel in this intelligence to be scientist, mathematician, engineer,
doctor, and economist.

Fifth kind is the Naturalist intelligence, which has to do with nature, nurturing and relating
information to one’s natural surroundings. This type of intelligence was not part of Gardner’s original
theory of Multiple Intelligences, but was added to the theory in 1997. Those with it are said to have
greater sensitivity to nature and their place within it, the ability to nurture and grow things, and greater
ease in caring for, taming and interacting with animals. They may also be able to discern changes in
weather or similar fluctuations in their natural surroundings. They are also good at recognizing and
classifying different species. They must connect a new experience with prior knowledge to truly learn
something new.

Naturalists learn best when the subject involves collecting and analyzing, or is closely related
to something prominent in nature; they also don’t enjoy learning unfamiliar or seemingly useless
subjects with little or no connections to nature. It is advised that naturalistic learners would learn more
through being outside or in a kinesthetic way.

Sixth kind is the Intrapersonal that has to do with introspective and self-reflective capacities.
Those who excel in this intelligence are typically introverts and prefer to work alone. They are usually
self-aware and capable of understanding their own emotions, goals and motivations. They often have an
affinity for thought-based pursuits such as philosophy. They learn best when allowed to concentrate on
the subject by themselves. There is often a high level of perfectionism associated with this intelligence.

A person who has a high level of this intelligence suits the careers: philosophers,
psychologists, theologians, writes and scientists.

Seventh kind is the Visual-spatial intelligence; it has to do with vision and spatial judgment.
People with strong visual-spatial are typically very good at visualizing and mentally manipulating objects.
Those with strong spatial intelligence are often proficient at solving puzzles. They have strong visual
memory and are often artistically inclined. Those with visual-spatial intelligence also generally have a
very good sense of direction and may also have very good hand-eye coordination, although this is
normally seen as a characteristic of the bodily-kinesthetic intelligence

These appear to be a high correlation between spatial and mathematical abilities, which
seems to indicate that these two intelligences are not independent. Since solving a mathematical
problem involves manipulating symbols and numbers, spatial intelligence is involved.

The last kind of multiple intelligences is the Musical intelligence, which has to with rhythm,
music, and learning. Those who have a high level of musical-rhythmic intelligence display greater
sensitivity to sounds, rhythms, tones, and music. They normally have good pitch and may even have
absolute
Since there is a strong auditory component to this intelligence, those who are strongest in
it may learn best via lecture. In addition, they will often use songs or rhythms to learn and memorize
information, and may work best with music playing in the background.

The theory of multiple intelligences also has strong implications for adult learning and
development. Many adults find themselves in jobs that do not make optimal use of their most highly
developed intelligences, for example, the highly bodily-kinesthetic individual who is stuck in a linguistic
or logical desk-job when he or she would be much happier in a job where they could move around, such
as a recreational leader, a forest ranger, or a physical therapist. The theory of multiple intelligences
gives adults a whole new way to look at their lives, examining potentials that they left behind in their
childhood, such as a love for art or drama, but now have the opportunity to develop through courses,
hobbies, or other programs of self-development.

You don’t have to teach or learn something in all eight ways, just see what the possibilities
are, and then decide which particular pathways interest you most, or seem to be the most effective
teaching or learning tools. The theory of multiple intelligences is so intriguing because it expands our
horizon of available teaching or learning tools beyond the conventional linguistic and logical methods
used in most schools such as lecture, textbooks, writing assignments, formulas, etc. to get started, put
the topic of whatever you’re interested in teaching or learning about in the center of a blank sheet of
paper, and draw eight straight lines or spokes radiating out from this topic. Label each line with a
different intelligence. Then start brainstorming ideas for teaching or learning that topic and write down
ideas next to each intelligence. This is spatial-linguistic approach of brainstorming. You might want to do
this in other ways as well, using a tape-recorder, having a group brainstorming session and many more.

END OF THE WORLD
BY: CHARMAINE COSTALES
The 2012 phenomenon is a range of beliefs and proposals positing that cataclysmic or
transformative events will occur in the year 2012. The forecast is based primarily on what is
claimed to be the end –date of the Mesoamerican long countdown calendar, which

H is presented as lasting 5,125 years and as terminating on December 21 or 23, 2012

arguments supporting this dating are drawn from a mixture of amateur archaeoastronomy,
alternative interpretations of mythology, numerological constructions, and alleged prophecies,
from extraterrestrial beings.

A new age interpretation of this transition posits that, during this time, the planet and its
inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, and that 2012 may mark
the beginning of a new era. Conversely, some beliefs that the 2012 date marks is the beginning
of an apocalypse. Both ideas have been disseminated in numerous books and TV
documentaries, and have spread around the world through websites and discussion groups.
The idea of a global event occurring in 2012 based on any interpretation of the Mesoamerican
long count calendar is rejected as pseudoscience by the scientific community, and as
misrepresentative of Maya history by Mayans scholars.

The present day of Maya, as a whole, do not attach much significant to 2012.although the
calendar round is still used by some Maya tribes in the Guatemalan highlands; the long count
was strictly employed by the classic Maya and was only recently rediscovered by
archaeologists. Mayan elder Apolinario Chile Pixtun and Mexican archaeologist Guillermo
Bernal both note that “apocalypse” is a western concept that has been foisted on the Maya by
westerners because their own myths are “exhausted”. Mayan archaeologist Jose Huchm
complains that. ”if I went to some Mayan speaking communities and asked people what is going
to happen in 2012, they wouldn’t believed you. We have real concerns these days, like rain

Most classic Maya inscription are strictly historical and do not make any prophetic declarations.
Two items in the Maya classical corpus, however, mention the end of the 13th baktun: tortuguero
monument 6 and the chilam balam

Body odor can smell pleasant and specific to the individual, and can be used to identify people,
though this is more often done by dogs and other animals than by humans. An individual's body
odor is also influenced by diet, gender, genetics, health and medication. Propionic acid (propanoic
acid) is present in many sweat samples. This acid is a breakdown product of some amino acids by
propionibacteria, which thrive in the ducts of adolescent and adult sebaceous glands. Because
propionic acid is chemically similar to acetic acid with similar physical characteristics including
odor, body odors may be identified as having a vinegar-like smell by certain persons. Isovaleric
acid (3-methyl butanoic acid) is the other source of body odor as a result of actions of the
bacteria Staphylococcus epidermidis, which is also present in several strong cheese types.
Formula for a long life
By: Blue Butterfly
“Happiness is a process, not a place; it’s a way of life, not a goal in itself; a state we can hope for when we’re
living lives of real wealth.”

An unhappy life might seem longer, but does being happy in fact prolong longevity? Nuns from the
order of Notre dame helped psychologists to investigate the link between a longer life and happiness.

In 1930, 180 nuns who were about to take their final vows wrote an autobiographical essay. Six decades
later, these essays were analyzed and the results compared to the nuns’ life spans. Words such as
“happy” and “satisfaction” were coded as negative.

The researchers found out that nine out of ten of the most positive 25% of the nuns were still alive at
85, while only one-third of the least positive 25% were. Overall, the study showed positive emotions
correlated to a ten-year increase in life span.

Quite apart from it being a preferable state of mind, happiness brings about better health. In particular,
it creates a more robust immune system, lower levels of cortisol, a stress hormone, and abetter recovery
from major surgery.

In 2009 flu pandemic, the virus isolated from patients in the United States was found to be made up of
genetic elements from four different flu viruses – North American swine influenza, North American
Avian Influenza, human influenza and swine influenza typically found in Asia and Europe. This new strain
appears to be a result or re-assortment of human influenza and swine influenza viruses, in all different
strains of subtype AH1N1.
Preliminary genetic characterization found that the hem agglutinin (HA) gene was similar to swine flu
viruses present in U.S pigs since 1999, but neuraminidase (NA) & matrix protein (M) gerus resemble
version present in European swine flu isolates. These 6 genes from American swine flu are mixtures of
swine flu & human flu viruses. This found has been previously circulated in humans or pigs.

Declaring pandemic cases might have been that the flu is severe. On June 11, 2009, World Health
Organization (WHO) declared an H1N1 pandemic, moving the alert level to phase 6, marking the first
global pandemic since the 1968 Hong Kong flu. On October 11, 2009 the WHO update the states that 74
countries have officially reported over 399, 234 confirmed cases of influenza pandemic AH1N1 including
4, 735 deaths.

The study authors suggest physician evaluation via contrast enhanced or scan for the presence of
pulmonary emboli when caring for patient diagnosed with respiratory complication from a severe case
of H1N1 flu.

A Serious Threat to Mankind

By: Charmaine Costales

Why have warnings about climate change been ignored for more than 20 years? Why was
ever more scientific evidence demanded to find the coherence of man-made CO 2 emissions as cause of
global warming? Why wasn’t common sense reason enough to act? Why can one still today find people
who stick their head in the sand and don’t want to understand what’s going on in the earth’s
atmosphere? Why do must people refuse to change their personal behavior voluntary in order to reduce
CO2 emissions caused by their activities?

It took more than 20 years to broadly accept that mankind is causing global warming with
the emission of greenhouse gases. The drastic increase in the emission of CO 2 within the last 30 years
caused by burning fossil fuels has been identified as the major reason for the change of temperature in
the atmosphere.
More than 80% of the world-wide energy demand is currently supplied by the fossil fuels
coal, oil or gas. It will be impossible to find alternative sources, which could replace fossil fuels in the
short or medium term. The energy demand is simply too high.

Another issue is the non-renewable characteristic of fossil fuels: It took nature millions of
years to generate these resources, however we will have used them up within the next decades. Alone
the shrinking supply will not make it possible to continue as usual for a longer time.

The effects of global warming and climate change are of concern both for the
environment and human life. Evidence of observed climate change includes the instrumental
temperature record, rising sea levels, and decreased snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere. According
to the IPPC Fourth Assessment Report, “most of the observed increase in global average temperatures
since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in concentrations”. It is predicted
that future climate changes will include further global warming, sea level rise and a probable increase in
the frequency of some extreme weather events. Ecosystems are seen as being particularly vulnerable to
climate change. Human systems are seen as being variable in their capacity to adapt to future climate
change. To reduce the risk of large changes in future climate, many countries have implemented policies
deigned to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases.

Increasing temperature is likely to lead increasing precipitation but the effects on storms
are less clear. Extra tropical storms partly depend on the temperature gradient, which is predicted to
weaken in the northern hemisphere as the polar region warms more than the rest.

That’s the way life goes
By: Sir Rommel Cruz

I, being an outspoken and friendly (modesty aside), have met different kinds of people ages, but still my
contemporaries are the majority. Knowing their personalities concerning with the views on the way they spend their
lives here, I have analyzed that they want to emphasize that we are in a really complicated world and the m main
reason is that problems arise at the midst of their happiness and certain unpropitious circumstances.

Well, a find a brief cessation in my mind, thinking, thinking if I’ll favour them with their beliefs. I came to realize
that they are partly right because I, for one, have experienced a problem which definitely ruined my enthusiasm
toward satisfaction. I really felt something different within myself, then thinking that it was the end of my life; I
thought God has forgotten me. It was also the time when I wanted to curb the sun from shining and retain the
darkness and just continue sleeping, for me not to witness the beginning of another day of crying, blaming me and
the people around me. And ask myself “Why me?”

It’s really hard to handle such problems especially when you are much depressed with your own negative thoughts
nevertheless, for the fact that life is like a wheel turning, we have to stick to it and strive for our life’s settlement.
Life really has its “ups and downs”. Just believe in yourself. You have to ought to have different outlook in life
because behind youe dark world is a light that signifies your reward for not surrendering through the odds. That’s
the way life goes. We must bear in our minds that life won’t be colourful without hindrances in our journey. We
must not get irritated, but rather be thankful for experiencing such hustles because they make us understand the
importance and real essence of life. “If there’s a will, there’s a way.” Now it’s our choice of how we’re going to
find a way to gain the solution we’re working for. We must also consider that precious time running because
anytime, our Lord can take back the lie He has given us. Precisely your strong determination is one factor that can
lead to happiness and contentment in life. After all, we must be careful in acquiring our concrete decisions and let
our judgments prevail. Anyway we have our friends out there and they are definitely a great help to us. Be discrete
and intelligent enough in formulating your decisions. Through this, you’ll also know your true friends. Remember,
knowing your true friend requires a long span of time.

We really have to struggle with determination and zeal. We are lucky to be here on earth. Let us make the best out
of it. Let us not forget our God, supreme creator, who knows what is good for us. And the best thing is to accept the
reality and not to escape from it. God gave us those problems He knows we can handle them. Let us prove to
ourselves that we believe in Him and we will go through many trials as a test to our fortitude and strength.
