Making a difference in the lives of students and the larger community are a few of the

many reasons I am choosing the profession of teaching. Working as an Instructional assistant

has inspired me to follow in this profession. I knew this is what I wanted to do when I reflected

on the fact that I would wake up and look forward to going to school and my class. Building

relationships with not only my coworkers but the students and their family have inspired me as

well. It fills my cup up when I know that I was there for someone to help my students with

something as little as tying their shoes or I was there to translate for a Spanish speaking parent.

They always smile and thank me for that. My Field observation has tremendously helped me,

working alongside teachers has helped me with the difference of styles of teaching. I have

observed their classroom management and strategies to deal with behavior keeping students

engaged and on task. Also how they are able to modify or accommodate students based on their

learning style.

Although I am aware that there is a possibility that I may develop a more eclectic

educational philosophy. Progressivism philosophy and Humanistic psychology are what closely

fits my current beliefs about education. Progressivism is child centered rather than focused on

the teacher or content. Teachers serve as guides and facilitate students' learning. I believe

building a relationship with your students is beneficial for their academic success. Providing

that safe space at school that they might not have a home will make a difference in their life.

Humanistic psychology focuses on personal freedom, choice awareness and personal

responsibility. Other focuses include achievements, motivation, feeling actions and needs of

human beings , The goal is individual self-actualization. Thus individuals control their own

destinies through the application of their intelligence and learning humanistic teachers

encourage students to learn and grow. I feel that it is important to take care of the child as a

whole. That is why I believe that educators should have a strong focus on students' emotional

well being.
Instructional strategies that I will implement to make learning fun are cooperative

learning students working together either in small group or whole whole group activities. I will

use limited lectures so that students will engage in hands-on Hands on learning. Some of the

other instructional strategies are flexible grouping, grade level rotation, developing a well

organized curriculum putting a learning system into place.

To further my education and be able to pursue a career as a teacher I would have to

attain a Bachelor degree, full state certification. Knowledge of each subject being taught,

certification and licensure and pass the praxis test. I am grateful that I work as an instructional

assistant now so that I am able to get some field experience. After completing this opportunity I

look forward to taking the next steps that will help me continue. I would need to complete the

Fafsa application, and talk to an advisor on what classes to take next.
