If I had been the Prime Minister then:

• The data shows the number of total cases in INDIA has been rising exponentially. So,
my first priority would have been to stop this rise in cases. How?
The disease had already shown its nature in China and US by the time it reached
India. So, my first step would have been to inform the people about the disease as
soon as it reached INDIA. Inform them about the danger the virus posed, and about
the inevitable steps (complete lockdown) the government will take in the future. This
would have been implemented in a very stringent manner. This would reduce the
panic among the people and would have been given them time to prepare. A public
notice would have followed about micro and small enterprises to adjust their business
and funds for the next 6 months (at least).
• Since there is no vaccine available, the only way to reduce the number of cases will
be to provide them treatment. How? I would have done what the actual Prime
Minister has done (increasing test capacity, number of beds, etc.). The other step
would have been to make a deal with the private hospitals and doctors so that their
facilities could be employed at less cost.
The first step is focuses on flattening the curve while the second curve is focused on
making the curve go down. I believe these steps would have helped me change the data to
some extent.
• Thirdly since lockdown is the only mean to stop (actually slowdown) the spread of the
virus, I would have implemented lockdown. However, implementing lockdown means
that economic activities will also be shutdown. This will create an inevitable
economic strain in the country during the period of the lockdown and sometime after
it. So, my second priority would have been to cope up with this strain.
