Analysis
Target Audience characteristics and context:

Give an overview of the context for this educational program. Describe the health care setting or professional context and the identified learning need.
The educational program will aim at equipping palliative care nurses on effective communication skills. The target audience of this educational event
are palliative care nurses in referral hospitals. The mode of delivery of content will be through conducting workshops led by experts drawn from
communication and palliative care fields. The main focus of palliative care is to provide relief, refuge and restoration to patients suffering a serious
illness. The care regime given to this kind of patient involves making their quality of life less burdensome for close family members. It goes beyond
just treating the physical pain, but also incorporates improving their psychosocial and spiritual outlook. Therefore, the identified learning need is to
equip palliative care nurses with optimal interpersonal communication skills so as to be able to communicate clearly and with compassion to all
parties involved.

Assessment Strategies: Formative Assessment

What formative assessment tasks will learners/participants complete?

2
Education Event Plan (Assessment 1)
How will learners/participants receive feedback on their learning?
How does this formative assessment relate to the summative assessment and the learning outcomes?
Formative assessment tasks participants complete:
 Responses to quizzes during the class sessions.
 Discussions and reflections during class sessions.
Participants receive feedback on their learning through:
 Prompt feedback from the instructor
 Adjustment of instruction mode
Formative assessment relates to the summative assessment and the learning outcomes by:
 It prepares the participants for what to expect in the summative assessment
 Formative assessment tests how far the learners have grasped the learning outcomes

Summative Assessment

What summative assessment tasks will learners/participants complete?

How will learners/participants receive feedback on their learning?
How does this summative assessment relate to the formative assessment and the learning outcomes?
Summative assessment tasks participants complete
 They will write a reflection on the course content learnt
 Answer a series of short answer questions to gauge their understanding of the concepts learnt
Participants will receive feedback on their learning through:
 Grading on their reflection paper
 A certificate of completion and recommendation for a bigger role in the palliative care unit.
How summative assessment relates to the formative assessment and the learning outcomes.
 Whereas formative assessment was conducted during the instruction period of the education event, summative assessment is done at the
end to gauge how successful the educational event was. Summative assessment tests whether the adjustments made after formative
assessment were effective. It relates to the learning outcomes in that it assesses to what the participants have learnt and internalised.
