 Areola – the dark-colored skin that so grounds the nipple.


 Breast – either one of the two soft parts on a woman's chest that produce milk when she has a
baby.
 Cervix – the lower, narrow part of the uterus (womb).
 Dilation – the opening of the cervix during childbirth.
 Endometrium – the lining of the uterus.
 Fallopian tube -
 Gamete – in the female an ovum, and in the male a spermatozoon.
 Hemorrhoids – veins around the anus or lower rectum that are swollen and inflame.
 Isthmus – this is the narrowest portion of the uterus and is about 1 cm long, this is the site of
tubal ligation.
 Jaundice – it is the yellow color seen in the skin of many newborns.
 Kegel – exercises designed to strengthen and give voluntary control over the pubococcygeus
muscles (muscles that help urinary control and childbirth).
 Labor – culmination of a pregnancy or gestation period with the delivery of one or more
newborn infants from the mother's uterus.
 Meiosis – reproductive cell division in gametes that halves the number of chromosomes in each
cell.
 Nidation – implantation of the fertilized ovum (zygote) in the uterine endometrium.
 Ovulation – when the ovaries release an egg, about once each month as part of the menstrual
cycle.
 Progesteron – a female hormone produce by the ovaries.
 Quickening – the initial motion of the fetus in the womb as it is perceived or felt by a pregnant
woman.
 Rugae – these are transverse folds of skin in the vaginal wall that is absent in childhood, appear
after puberty and disappear at menopause.
 Sperm – cell found in semen that can get a woman pregnant.
 Trimester – a typical pregnancy is 9 months long.
 Uterus – a woman's womb, or the hallow, pear-shape organ located in a woman's lower
abdomen between the bladder and the rectum.
 Vagina – the muscular canal that extends from the cervix to the outside of the body.
