give the reader important information about the
cause or effect?
Is the introduction inviting? Does it state the thesis

Are the details clearly placed in a logical order?

Does the writer explain the causes or the effects but

Does the writer make any errors in capitalization,
abbreviation, or punctuation?

Does the writer use transitional words to show the
cause – effect relationship?
Does the choice and placement of the words seem
accurate, natural and not forced?
Do clichés, jargon or informal language appear in the
essay?
Does the writer follow the format for typing or
handwriting the assignment? (12 font in Times New
Roman, Arial, or Arial Narrow) and have correct word
count?
