The end of WWI


The treaty of Versailles was the most important of the peace treaties that
brought World War I to an end. The treaty ended the state war between
Germany and the Allied Powers. It was signed on 28 June 1919 in the palace
of Versailles five years after the assassination of the Archduke Franz
Ferdinand.

Including 60 million Europeans, making it one of the largest wars in history. It
is also one of the deadliest conflicts in history, with an estimated 9 million
combatant deaths and 13 million civilian deaths as a direct result of the war.
Important facts
• 1915 Submarine was used fot the first time in the war
• Germans used submarines to break the British blockage to get supplies
• The USA was already indirectly involved in the war, it provide weapons
and gave credit to the allies.
• 1915 the Lusitania was sunk by Germans, 1198 people died.
Russia
• On feb 1917 Nicolas II abdicated
• Aleksandr Kerensky did not retrieve from the war
• The revolution in Russia continued. Bolsheviks led by Lenin wanted to
consolidate the Socialist Revolution Soldiers deserted the army and the
Soviets took the power
The end of the war
• The central powers were devastated after the USA joined the war
• A pro peace movement started to rise in the world even among the
soldiers in the front; mainly in Russia and Austria -Hungary

• Yugoslavia got Croatia- Slavonia, Vojvodina and Bosnia Herzegovina
• Czechoslovakia got Slovenia

• It limited the territory to Constantinople and part of Asia minor.
