The former empire of Austria-Hungary was dissolved,
and new nations were created from its land: Austria,
Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia.
The policy of alliance by European
nation
In London on September 5, 1914, Russia, France, and
Great Britain formalized their alliance with a treaty
stipulating that no member of the partnership would
make a separate peace with their mutual
enemies (“the Central powers”). It was from this point
that the countries were called “the Allies.”
WORLD WAR I BEGINS
The majority joined on the side of the Allies,
including Serbia, Russia, France, Britain, Italy and the
United States. They were opposed by Germany,
Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire,
who together formed the Central Powers.

economic strategies and guided the United States into World War I in 1917. Serving as
the primary architect of the League of Nations, he adopted a progressive stance on
foreign policy, later recognized as Wilsonianism.

The major diplomatic conflict at the
end of World War I was the negotiation of the Treaty
of Versailles, which took place at the Palace of
Versailles. The treaty was signed on June 28, 1919, and
imposed harsh conditions on Germany, leading to
political and economic tensions
