Proposal title 1: LEAK DETECTION USING FLOW-INDUCED VIBRATIONS IN MAYNILAD’S MAIN WATER
PIPELINE.

Short description: Water distribution is generally installed through underground pipes. Monitoring the
underground water pipelines is more difficult than monitoring the water pipelines located on the ground
in open space. A solution is required to detect and to determine the location of the damage when there
is a leak. The detection of the leak location will use fluid mechanics and kinematics physics based on
harness water flow rate data obtained using Flow-Induced Vibrations.

Proposal title 2: IMPROVING THE VENTILATION OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT BEING USED BY
HEALTHCARE WORKERS

Short Description: To aid our health care workers in coping with the use of poor quality PPE for prolonged
hours. Many of our personnel (nurses, doctors, etc.) have been voicing out their crisis in fighting the
pandemic due to lack of support and attention. Health care workers mentioned that the overall suit (full
body PPE) was very uncomfortable and too hot to wear for a long period of time, leading to fatigue and
skin infections which results in some of them wanting to give up and resign. The enhanced PPE that we
are going to develop consists of a fabric full-face hood with a ventilation system that include a high
efficiency particulate air filter (HEPA), have a compact and lightweight design for the convenience of the
wearer, a comfortable type of fabric for the rest of the body to allow the ease of movements of the
personnel.
