Activity 2

In a remote town of Bohol stood a small public elementary school. Outside the school are
local food vendors selling different types of food that are affordable to the school children. One
morning, the recess bell rang and children eagerly ran just outside the school premises to buy
some of their favorite food items sold outside of the gates. This was about 9 in the morning. At
11 in the morning some school children started vomiting and complained about a terrible
stomach ache. Immediately some of the students began to be unconscious. At this moment,
school officials asked helped from the local government. These prompted local government
officials to bring many of the elementary students to a nearby hospital.
At about 2 pm more than 20 of the students had died. A national investigation had been
made by the government. The investigators found out that a local delicacy by an old lady is the
cause of the fatal food poisoning. According to investigation, many of the casualties bought a
fried root crop sold by the lady. Immediately they inspected the house of the lady. They found
out the root crop is harvested behind the house of the lady and that is not the cause of the illness.
However, further test was made to the suspected food item revealed a presence of a pesticide
used to kill chicken lice. This is a white powdery substance that could easily be mistaken as
flour. At the house of the old lady, indeed, investigator found out the pesticide.
