 The Philippine is an agricultural country.


 Land Area : 30 million hectares; 47% of which is agricultural land.
 Land Distribution:
4.25 m hectares - food crops & coconut
673 T hectares – sugarcane
591 T hectares – agricultural crops
270 T hectares – vegetables and root crops
403 T hectares – pasture
133 hectares – cut flowers

The Department of Agriculture (DA)

 Formed in June 23, 1998


 Present Secretary: William Dar
 Annual Budget : 48.7 billion pesos (2015)
 Office : Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City.
 Function: To make plans, trusts & programs and to oversee agricultural productivity to
ensure food production and food security for the country. AFMA – was enacted to
modernize Agriculture and Fishery
