Table Talks Episode 2: The Construction of Feminist Ideology in the 19th

Century

In this webinar I gained a lot information about Rizal’s Ideas in Feminism.

The Knight of Rizal Valenzuela's central chapter hosted a live FB on September 3,
2021b on their official FB page, titled "Table Talks Episode 2: The Construction of
Feminist Ideology in the 19 Century". That speaks to Dr. Jose P. Rizal's important
contribution to the formation of feminist ideology in the 19th century. At the
beginning of the program, Mr. Erlindo C. Dionisio, KCR, A Section Commander and
NCR Northern Zone Commander gave the opening speech of the program. And in this,
Professor Naomi M. Jemera, MA., assistant professor at the Colegio De San Juan De
Letran, who served as the speaker of the conference, was introduced by Sir Arren B.
Santos, KCR., also auditor of the chapter.

When Professor Jemera officially began her discussion on the subject, she
began by highlighting "The Contemporary Art of Rizal" by Miguel De Unamuno who
said, "Rizal's widowhood is a writer's heroism". Professor Jemera also mentions in his
introduction that the concepts of Rizal's work on views of feminist ideology have
something to do with mutual respect, social justice, equality and assimilation. And in
his writings Rizal never discriminates against any gender and indeed in his work Rizal
states that femininity must arise from conservatism, but according to the speaker that
women in the 19th century are no longer comparable to women in the 16th century.
Women in the 19th century were empowered by many women who believed on the
sexual freedom he guides and regulates. Professor Jemera also pointed out that in the
16th century the main purpose of any institution was to prepare women for
motherhood or for religious life, it was a small academic teaching in which I, as a man,
considered it to be about an inequality between the sexes, a point of equal
opportunity. views if applied today. And with this work by Rizal, Noli me Tangere,
he led to his social cancer diagnoses and defined the identity of a nation by
addressing the need for national reform and exposing the evils of colonialism. d
Rizal never discriminates between the sexes in her writings and in fact Rizal has
argued in her work that femininity must come from conservatism, but according to
the speaker 19th century women are no longer comparable to 16th century women.
This 19th century woman is made up of many empowered women who believe in the
sexual freedom to lead and rule. The myth, languages, and creation myths are
evidence that in early Philippine society, women enjoyed equality, if not relative
superiority, with men. The Catholic Church, then a powerful institution, has been the
bastion of the patriarchy since self-colonization on self-image was implemented by
Professor Jemera. She also believes that anarcho-feminism explains the subjugation of
women as the main function of the church and the traditional family and that
nihilistic feminism is the fervent proponent that women have become subservient to
men because of the church and state that have influenced the traditional family, to
empower women, the traditional family must be destroyed, along with the institutions
that produce it. She also emphasized Rizal's perception of women's liberation that the
reason women are irrational is because of indoctrination that promotes false
consciousness or obscurantism and to reduce this education must be applied as I
explicitly replied in his letter to "Women for Malolos".
After the discussion, I realized that taking advantage of the women is never
okay. Treat women as Human and as equal. The most important point of the
conference is to recognize you in society not only as women who serve their
husbands, but as women who know that in these times women must lead, speak out
and take care of themselves, empower strong women and that Rizal's ideas and the
feminist ideology of having a woman who is not only there to give birth and
housewives triumphs in today's world.
