Rediscovering Filipinas: Rizal’s Annotations on Morga’s Sucesos

After listening the Webinar, I gained a lot of information about Rizal. The
National Historical Commission of the Philippines held an FB-Live entitled
"Rediscovering Filipinas: Rizal’s Annotations on Morga’s Sucesos", which was
organized on August 26, 2021. This FB-Live is mainly about the discussion of the
historical records of the beginning of Spanish colonization in the Philippines in the
16th century. In keeping with the celebration of History Month 2021.

When the webinar began, Professor John Ray Ramos from the Ateneo de
Manila University, who is the conference speaker, was able to demonstrate his
advocacy to awaken students and youth to fully understand pre-colonial history and
the lost identity of our own. race. He pointed out that "Sucesos de las Islas Filipinas"
is simply an account of an important fact or story that means the study of the past and,
in Greek words, "history", a knowledge acquired through research. However, before
Professor Ramos began his formal lecture, he pointed out things about academic staff
to avoid disputing student debates about who between Dr. José P. Rizal and Andrés
Bonifacio should be declared our national heroes. Taught the youths what are the
contribution of both heroes that recognized and appreciated in our country. As the
webinar progressed, Professor Ramos explained that history was the source of identity
in which he describes how Dr. José P. Rizal recreated a pre-hispanic Filipino past in
1980 to give his compatriots a sense of history and a sense of being Filipino. In
which he, Dr. José Rizal, has created many of his written works that have fought for
us, for our identity, cultures and perspectives, which he dedicates to his compatriots.
Professor John Ray said that we had and had a very rich history and culture at that
time, but that it was covered up and erased due to colonization by the Spanish at that
time. He also said that we should get rid of the idea that we were discovered by
Magellan in March 1651, because in the first place we are never lost or missed, what
has been lost and missed is our Filipino identity along with our cultures. In addition,
Professor Ramos also emphasized that the story uses a narrative and past context to
make a discussion. He also indicated the reliability of the primary and secondary
information sources. Which is also associated with the nature of the sources, that
historical research is not about identifying the authoritative source and then using it
for everything, since most sources are somehow correct, incomplete or prejudicial and
the interests they are contaminated.

Therefore, after listening to the lectures of the speaker, Professor John Ray
Ramos, I must say that the most important point to keep in mind as I move forward
and become an Engineer is to keep our history align without adding or subtracting
story to make it clear. Also to protect and embody the history that our ancestors
brought with them and fought for us, to testify to this day that no matter where and
under what circumstances we are, the appreciation of the most precious point in your
life is to know that you have purpose in life, do our part as a Filipino and fight for our
country.
