TEACHING PLAN FOR CLASS VIII I.A.

S (MATHEMATICS)

June:

 Commercial Mathematics: Concept of Ratio, Types of Ratios i.e.,


compound ratio, inverse ratio, duplicate ratio. Sub-duplicate ratio,
Triplicate ratio and sub-triplicate ratio, also problems based on them
from SSC and ICSE of VIII standard.
 Concept of proportion and its types like direct, inverse and
compound proportion, also problems based on them from SSC
and ICSE of VIII standard.
 Concept of percentages and various types of problems like error
problems, change in areas of plane figures, mixture based
problems etc.. from VIII ICSE and “Quantitative aptitude” by R.S.
Agarwal.
 Concept like gain, loss and their percentages, problems based on
tem from SSC & ICSE of VIII.

July:

 Concept of Time and work and problems based on them from SSC
and ICSE of VIII.
Note: For all the topics related to Commercial Mathematics, referring book

is “Quantitative Aptitude” by R.S. Agarwal.

 Sets: Concept of sets, different forms of representation of a set,


types of sets, operations, representation of sets through Venn
diagrams and word problems from VIII, IX and X SSC.
 Relations: Concept of ordered pair, Cartesian product and relation,
and also problems based on Cartesian product from IX SSC up to
Exercise-3
 Representation of relation through i) Arrow diagram ii) Tree
diagram and iii) Graphical representation

 Elementary Number Theory: Concept of prime number composite
numbers, perfect numbers, findings prime numbers by using “sieve
of Eratosthenes,” finding number of factors, sum of factors of given
number, GCD, LCM and relation between them based problems of
VIII SSC.
 Finding the units digit in a large powered number problem like2100, 3777
, 7333 etc…

August:

 Linear equations: Concept of areas of all types of quadrilaterals,


triangle, circle, ring, sector etc., and problems based on them from
VIII SSC.
 Shaded figures based problems from IX & X ICSE Mensuration.
 Concept of linear equation and various methods like elimination
method, substitution method to solve the pair of linear equations in
two variables.
 Concept of Dependent, Independent, Inconsistent equations and
Solving procedure of them.
 Introduction to coordinate axes, slope, slope–form of a line, slope-
intercept form of a line, X, Y-intercepts, converting the given linear
equation in to y = mx+c and solving the system of equations by
using graphs from VIII SSC.

September:

In introduction to Geometry, concepts like, undefined terms, defined


terms, axions, theorems with examples will be explained.

Various stages in the structure of theorem , methods of proof like direct


method and indirect method if proofs with examples.

Concept of counter example with examples and some objective bits from
contribution of mathematician in the field of Geometry from VIII SSC.

Concept of tramvessal, straight times, different types of angles like


vertically opposite, corresponding ……..angles etc, and related problems
from VIII SSC and ICSE.

Concept of polygon and types like convex and ……………regular polygon and
only the statements of theorems, also the problems based on theorem
statements.

Concept like types of triangles based on length sides and angles, also
congruency axioms, concurred lines of triangle concept of sum of angles
in a triangle, relation ship among exterior angle to the interior opposite
angles, of triangle and problems based on them.

Concept t\introduction to circle and its various related terms like, radium
………….chord, tangent, ……………… etc and objective method problems based
on them

Note : For all geometry concepts the statement of theorem will be


explained without proof as and not required for PELIMINARY of NTSE”.

The objective method problems required to NTSE will be explained based


on a all the geometric concepts and theorems.

October: Revision for NTSE PRELIMINARY exam

November: Revision will be done till the NTSE prelims exams.

All the left over theorems will detailed proofs and also exclusive problems
from VIII SSC.

December:

Constitution of triangle with different cases and also circum circle and in
circle of triangle.

Concept of point symmetry and line symmetry for various figures

January:

Mensuration of solid figures. Concept like prism, pyramid, cylinder, cone


and sphere and various types of problems based on them from IX SSC.

February:

Finding the square roots of Algebraic expression, concepts like


Homogenous, symmetric, cyclic expression and problems based on the
them from IX SSC.

Concept of quadratic expression, equation finding the roots of quadratic


equation using splitting the middle term method, formula method and the

concept of disarmament finding the nature of roots based on
distrainment, reciprocal equation and also various types of problems
based on them.

March: Preparation and conducting of Annual exams.

April:

Preparation of NTSE Mains exam for qualified students of NTSE prelims


and interested students (who are not qualified)
