0 INTRODUCTION
Since the life had begun on earth human being had fought and struggle for food. When the
centuries had pass the food revolution also change, human started to cultivate the land, to
farm by raise the animals in order to make eating easier and less labour. Eventually people
started to barter, by exchange food with goods example chicken with loaf of bread, and later
to sell their product, to exchange food for other goods or earns profits from them. The sources
of food have increase dramatically and continued to change over time. When people in the
past had to fight to their meals people nowdays fight for promotions and advertisement for
food product of different types, quality, quantity and reasonable prices.
Although it might seem contradictory, in the past it was simple for people to make decisions
about what they would eat by hunting for food whichever animals which easily to catch and
able to provide most nutritious food. Humans being without knowing the optimal diet for
example that lead to the protein, fruits and vegetable. With the civilization, industrialization,
technological innovations mechanization the economic growth and increasing welfare of
people had change drastically overtimes.
The food industry in Malaysia had change and develop over a decades in order to satisfy
customer needs and consumer behaviour. This industry is characterized by complex system
and activities concerning and supply, consumption and delivery a food and product across
entire Malaysia.
Despite Malaysia being one of the top plantation countries such as Oil Palm and Rubber, we
had been a food importer a long time. According to the latest Quarterly Bulletin Utama from
Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Malaysian’s food imports forming of 24% of our total food
supply. As of August 2019, Malaysians food imports have reached RM34.2 billion, indicating
increase dependency on food purchases. Some number on food industry in Malaysia

The roots of KAWAN FOOD BHD can be track back at1960s when the family of Mr Gan
Thiam made and sold pastries such as “ pau, spring roll and kuih”. All these are made
manually back then. Its only when at late 1970s when Mr.Gan Thiam Chai founded the sole
proprietorships, Kian Guan Tranding Co. and supplied traditional and homemade pastries
name “Kuih Bakul” and “ Kulit Pohpiah” to a local grocery shops and supermarket. In 1964,
Mr Gan Thiam incorporate Kian Guan Trading Co and started to manufacture ready to eat
(RTE) frozen food. Then Kian Guan subsequently Kawan Food Berhad. Its inspires product
and market product under brand name KAWAN. KAWAN FOOD BHD (KFB) able to run
the company professionally, full product driven and able to give equal emphasis to the both
Research and Development (R&D) as well as the Sales and Marketing. It became one of the
major supplier frozen food.
It has strong and creative pool research personally, all of whom dedicate to create a new and
innovative food product. IT supports is one of the biggest domain in order to maintain the
product growth. The IT Support maintains the computer network all type of organizations,
providing technical support and ensuring the whole company runs smoothly.IT Support
monitors and maintains the company computer system, installs, configures hardware and
software and solve the technical issue as they arise because the nature of the job, some

In the year of 2002, KAWAN FOOD MANUFACTURING get awarded the Enterprise 50
Awards for 2002 by SMIDEC and Accenture. KAWAN FOOD MANUFACTURING
awarded the International Award For Best Performance by Council of International Awards
U.K. KAWAN FOOD MANUFACTURE also get the automation process of Roti Pratha
accredited with HACCP. KAWAN FOOD MANUFACTURE are proud to be the first
company in the world to manufacture frozen roti prathas and chapattis through automation.
More awards and recognition back in 2003,KAWAN FOOD MANUFATURE (KFM) also
incorporation with KG PASRTY MAKERTING SDN BHD ( KGPM) . They also able to
make an achievement awarded 7th Place in the Golden Bull Awards 2004 by Nayang Siang
Pau Berhad. KAWAN FOOD BERHAD also achieve the 1st Place in the Enterprise 50
Awards 2004 by SMIDEC and Delloite Consulting Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Subsequently, in 2005
Mr Gan listed his businesses under KAWAN FOOD BERHAD on BURSA Malaysia. He
made KAWAN FOOD BERHAD listed as the 2nd Board in Bursa Malaysia
In 2006, KAWAN FOOD BHD was valued at RM72.8 million in market capitalization.
KAWAN FOOD BERHAD able to incorporation with KAWAN FOOD (NATONG) Co.Ltd
in august 2006 and located in Natong Economic and Technology Development area in
Natong, Jingsu Province, China measuring 438,886.38sqt. KAWAN FOOD NATONG
(KFN) started to operate in China in year 2008. By 2008 KAWAN FOOD BHD expend their
wings in Malaysia by started renovating office and factory 48,265.33sqft in Section 16 Jalan
Kemajuan and in year of 2009 they moved in and started operation. At the same year they
also expend their journey to HONG KONG by incorporated and became KAWAN FOOD
HONG KONG ( KFHK).
2011 had been a shock to KAWAN FOOD BERHAD because they able to hit more than 100
million mark of Revenue of Sales. By than year also KAWAN FOOD NATONG ( KFN) able
to get accredited with ISO22000:2005 food safety management system. By than time
KAWAN FOOD MANUFACTURING (KFM) GROUP acquired a pcs of land in Selangor
Halal Hub in Pulau Indah measuring of 678,895.74 sq ft. After 3 years, in 2014 the
construction in Pulau Indah begun and by 2 years later they started operating their new Halal
hub there.
In 2016 KAWAN FOOD BERHAD are awarded as the Best Under Billion Awards (BUBA)
2016 (KAWAN FOO) as the Best Enterprise value growth. By 2017 its market capitalization
has grown to RM 1.1 billion, a multiple of 13.5 times from 2006 levels. Despite the
achievements, it had recently experience a fall in stock price, causing market capitalization to
drop to RM 805.3 million, at the point of writing. They able to achieve recognition as The
Edge Billion Ringgit Club 2017 as the highest return shareholder over 3 years.
