REDUNDANCY

Redundancy in writing and speech is considered an error.

It is the unnecessary repetition of an idea, which contributes nothing new to the meaning the writer

wishes to convey.

Examples: The driver reversed back the car and consequently caused an accident.
 The words “reversed” and “back” convey the same idea.

In my opinion, I believe that the earth is flat.

 The phrases “in my opinion” and “I believe” convey the same idea.

If all of us cooperate together, we will succeed.

 Cooperate means to work together, so the word together in the sentence is
redundant.
