EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION
The fume hood is an equipment designed for fumes, toxic gases and hazardous vapours containment,
protecting end user and from chemical hazard. The device includes an enclosed area designed to limit the
spread of dangerous contaminants and an adjustable front opening to the workspace. The remote air suction
system, connected to the enclosed area, removes toxic gases/vapours from the workspace and releases them
to the point of discharge. The air suction system is not included in fume hood construction and it shall be
installed connecting the duct to the top wall of the fume cupboard.
The fume hood shall be always connected to the remote extract system. The technical features of remote air
suction system change depending on fume hood sizes, ducting pressure drops, customer requirements,
building air management, etc.
The airflow, removed by the air suction system, enters the workspace of the fume hood through the sash
opening. The workspace construction distributes air using special devices designed to capture fumes even in
worktop and rear panel areas. The exhaust fumes are moved to duct junction, installed on the top wall.
RANGE OF PRODUCTS
RX fume cupboards are a dynamic and modular system, to be easily customized in compliance with end user
requirements. Two possibilities of services arrangement are available: RX SMART, with slim side walls and
the horizontal service module under the worktop, or RX FULL with services installed on the vertical service
modules located on fume hood side walls.
RX FULL construction is achieved including the service module on RX SMART side walls, in order to install
services (sockets, tap remote controls, etc.) with a vertical arrangement. Each service module has a width of
mm 150, increasing the front external dimension of the fume cupboard of mm 300. The internal dimensions of
the workspace does not change and are the same of RX SMART model.

MAIN FEATURES
RX fume cupboards are designed to meet laboratory use requirements with a special attention to safety, end
users comfort and quality of materials.
High Performances Fume hoods are tested and certified with three different values of face
and safety velocity, 0.50 – 0.30 – 0.15 m/s, in order to match with different possibilities
of working conditions. The containment value, measured during the test with
the three face velocities, is always ≤ 0.01 ppm. The “robustness” value (test
with external front disturbances) is excellent even with the lowest air velocity.
Improved efficiency The front construction of the fume hood has four dedicated areas designed
of airflows to improve air moving into and through the workspace. The curved surfaces
of aluminium profiles, installed on the sash opening area, increase airflows
efficiency and avoid turbulences in the workspace. The double back panel of
the workspace, including special slots for air suction, removes exhaust
fumes from all the points of the workspace.
Energy saving Airflow efficiency performances make possible to decrease face velocity
removing a lower exhaust air volume from the fume hood. The HVAC
system can work with a lower consumption of air, with an important result for
energy saving effect.
Operational safety - Counterweights, pulleys, belts and mechanical devices are installed in a
close and dedicated compartment, independent from the workspace to
protect materials against degradation due to corrosive agents;
- Sash is provided with a safety system preventing the sash falling in case
of breakage of one or both belts;
- Safety in case of fall down of the counterweight(s), avoiding damages to
cables, piping or building floor, thanks to the enclosed compartment;
Less maintenance - Less wear of sash parts because installed outside the workspace;
requirements - Side wall glass panels easy to be replaced;
- Workspace designed without areas in which dirt may accumulate; easy
and fast to cleaned by end-users;
- Worktop easy to be replaced without disassembling the fume hood;

APPLIED TECHNOLOGY
Fume cupboard workspace is designed to increase airflow efficiency and improve performances concerning
the containment of toxic gases/vapours.
The front construction of the fume hood has four dedicated areas designed to improve air moving into and
through the workspace. The sash handle profile [1], the air-foil installed closed to the worktop [2], the area
between the sash upper profile and the upper glass frame [3], and the opening between the upper glass frame
and the top wall [4], consist of aluminium profiles with curved surfaces, designed to decrease turbulences
when air is moving into the workspace.
The workspace includes the double back panel [5], installed to increase fumes capitation in the rear part of
the working chamber. The double back panel has special slots for air suction, removing the exhaust fumes
from all the points of the workspace.
The rear upper baffle panel [6] moves the airflow to the exhaust air duct junction [7], located on fume hood
top wall. The remote air suction system removes toxic gases/vapours from the workspace and releases them
to the point of discharge.
The fume hood shall be always connected to the remote extract system. The technical features of remote air
suction system change depending on fume hood sizes, ducting pressure drops, customer requirements,
building air management (HVAC), etc.

The certification tests, concerning the Constant Air Volume (EN 14175 part 3) fume hoods walk-in models,
have been performed considering the real use of the equipment, because of the lack of specific tests in EN
14175 standard related to this type of construction (without worktop).
The walk-in fume cupboards are usually dedicated to pilot plants or floor-standing equipment: the sash is
normally closed during end user working and it will be open just for maintenance works. The end user has
access to the workspace through the horizontally sliding glasses of main/secondary sash.
Performances of walk-in fume hoods have been tested on horizontally sliding glass opening; different sizes of
glass opening width have been tested, depending on number/dimension of glasses (mm 300, 500, etc.).
The extract volume flow rate is set by the manufacturer, in order to have the proper number of air exchanges
per minute in the workspace. The following data table reports the results of testing activities:

The fume hood is a protective device with an enclosed workspace suitable only to protect the end user from
inhalation of toxic gases/vapours released by the materials manipulated.
Constructions materials used for the fume cupboards and technical solutions applied are in compliance with
the intended use included in EN-14175 part 7 standard, with the use limitations here described.
The manufacturer is not involved in risks assessment processes: hazards associated with the materials to be
manipulated inside the fume cupboard must be verified by the customer. The risks assessment is a decision
and responsibility of customer (employer), according to safety standards and laws.
The risk assessment should consider the following issues, in order to reduce as much as possible the risk:
Hazards associated with the materials to be manipulated including all the possible risks;
(*) Toxicity (injuries to health) (*) Flammability and risk of explosion,
(*) Chemical activity and corrosion, (*) Discomfort or objectionable odours
Quantity of gases/vapours released during manipulations;
National and international laws or technical standards to be respected;
Any personal protective equipment required;
Duration of manipulations and duration of end user exposure to risks;
Environmental factors influencing equipment correct working;

Manufacturer’s liability is limited to original components and use of products as per the intended use. The
liability does not include any obligation in case alterations, repairs or installations that have not been performed
by the manufacturer, use of the products in a manner for which they were not designed, external causes to the
products such as, but not limited to, power failure or electrical power surges.
We recommend to protect the work surface from the radiant heat in a proper way.
We recommend to locate the heating plate(s) in a proper place inside the workspace,
not close to side and back panels of the fume cupboard in order to make the air flows
working in an efficient way and avoid the radiant heat on construction materials.
