Aida

About Aida
The show Aida, is based on Giuseppe Verdi's Italian-
language opera of the same name, the libretto of which was
written by Antonio Ghislanzoni. The musical originated from a
children's storybook version of the Verdi's opera and was written
by Elton John and Tim Rice’s.
The show is about a conflict between Egypt and Nubia who
gives birth to a star-crossed love affair between Aida, the
captured princess of Nubia, and Radames, who is the Egyptian
captain who enslaved her people. With love and responsibility at
odds, Aida and Radames must decide to follow their hearts or
lead their people.

Strongest
suit
We are
learning a
routine to
the song
‘Strongest
Suit’ from the musical Aida, and the females are getting ready to go to the banquet where the men
will show them off. The lyrics state, “I am what I wear, my strongest suit.” This lyric implies that she
is feels confident and powerful in her strongest suit, (her dress).
I watched this clip from the Broadway production and all the performers are very confident and bold
with every movement, they also look like they are having a lot of fun on stage.

What I have learnt from this research

From this research I have done I will take into consideration when preforming this that I need to use
my face a lot and even though the routine is very fast to make it a performance I must smile and
engage my face. Now that I understand the show and the scene, I am preforming in I can now
preform in character as a strong powerful woman.
