Personal Statement draft

I aspire to be a professional dancer and choreographer. I would be horned to have a career in the
dance industry, what especially interests me is being part of a collaborative company that also tours
and preforms their work. I am suitable for this course as I have had a mixed variety of training over
the years that has influenced my creativity and performance such as art and photography. My
creative interests have helped influence my ideas as a dancer and choreographer for example it has
given me good visualisation skills, when applying that to choreography I can visualize what I am
trying to achieve.

On my current course at Exeter Collage, UAL Level 3 Diploma in dance and performance, I have had
to pick up a range of different styles such as Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, and commercial, which has helped
me to become a more diverse dancer. This course has helped me develop not only as a dancer but
also as a choreographer and taught me how to work in production, lighting, set and costume. I am
personally very proud of the sight sensitive dance piece I created whilst being on this course, it
allowed me to adapt and work in a new environment, I also got the chance to work on filming and
editing, which I particularly loved. My work was also show by Richard Chappell at a screening event
at our local theatre. Prior to this course, my other experience includes a 9 in GCSE dance, I have also
been a part of CHHYA Youth Company for the past four years which has stretched me as a dancer,
encouraging freedom in movements with African and Indian cultural influences. Being apart of this
Youth company has allowed me the opportunity to be part in workshops in styles such as,
contemporary, physical theatre, Flamenco, and capoeira, I have also worked with Richard Chappell,
The Hiccup project and Charlotte Eatock. I have also had weekly lessons at Southwest Ballet Arts,
been a part of the Sidmouth gymnastic academy team for five years and I have also been part of a
musical theatre company and performed in shows such as Crazy for You, Oliver, Carousel, Godspell,
Pirates of Phenazine and Oklahoma. Being part of CHYYA Youth Company I have also had the
opportunity to take part in many workshops in many diverse styles such as Capoeira and Flamenco,
with companies such as The Hiccup company and Richard Chappell Dance Company. And recently
over summer I participated in a summer school called Project Dance, which was ran by young
dancers and choreographers in the Southwest, and we created two choreographies that we then
filmed and preformed, we did all of this over the space of four days.

I have gained skills over the years by balancing dance and school together as well as a part time job,
which has also taught me to work as a team and manage my time well, as-well as allowing me to
become more confident by talking to customers.
