A WHOLE NEW WORLD
Lea Salonga

I can show you the world

Shining, shimmering splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?

I can open your eyes

Take you wonder by wonder
Over sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride

A whole new world

A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming

A whole new world

A dazzling place I never knew
But when I'm way up here
It's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you

Now I'm in a whole new world with you

Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky

A whole new world (Don't you dare close your eyes)

A hundred thousand things to see (Hold your breath, it gets better)
I'm like a shooting star
I've come so far
I can't go back to where I used to be

A whole new world (Every turn a surprise)

With new horizons to pursue (Every moment, red-letter)
I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you

A whole new world (A whole new world)

That's where we'll be (That's where we'll be)
A thrilling chase
A wondrous place
For you and me
ABOUT THE SONG

"A Whole New World" is a song from Disney's 1992 animated feature film Aladdin, with music
by Alan Menken and lyrics by Tim Rice.[3] A duet originally recorded by singers Brad
Kane and Lea Salonga in their respective roles as the singing voices of the main
characters Aladdin and Jasmine, the ballad serves as both the film's love and theme song.
Lyrically, "A Whole New World" describes Aladdin showing the confined princess a life of
freedom and the pair's acknowledgment of their love for each other while riding on a magic
carpet. The song garnered an Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 65th Academy
Awards.[5] "A Whole New World" also won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year at the 36th
Annual Grammy Awards, the first and so far only Disney song to win in the category.[3] In 2014,
Adam Jacobs and Courtney Reed performed the song as Aladdin and Jasmine in the
film's Broadway adaptation.
A single version of the song was released that same year and was performed by American
recording artists Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle. This version is played over the film's end
credits and is referred on the soundtrack as "Aladdin's Theme".[3] The version peaked at number
one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart on March 6, 1993,[6] replacing Whitney Houston's "I Will
Always Love You", which had spent a then-record 14 weeks at the top of the chart. It
went gold and sold 600,000 copies domestically.[7][8] The track peaked at number 12 in the UK
Singles Chart in 1992.[3] The song is the first and so far only song from a Disney animated film
to top the US Billboard Hot 100. The single version was later included on Belle's studio
album Passion (1993) and on Bryson's studio album Through the Fire (1994).

ABOUT THE SINGER

Maria Lea Carmen Imutan Salonga, (born February 22, 1971) is a Filipina singer and actress,
best known for her roles in musical theatre, for supplying the singing voices of two Disney
Princesses, and as a recording artist and television performer.
At age 18, she originated the lead role of Kim in the musical Miss Saigon, first in the West
End and then on Broadway,[3]winning the Olivier and Theatre World Awards, and becoming the
first Asian woman to win a Tony Award.[4] Salonga is the first Filipino artist to sign with an
international record label (Atlantic Records in 1993).
Salonga was the first actress of Asian descent to play the roles of Éponine and Fantine in the
musical Les Misérables on Broadway.[5][6] She also portrayed Éponine and Fantine, respectively,
in the musical's 10th and 25th anniversary concerts in London. She provided the singing voices
of two official Disney Princesses: Jasmine in Aladdin (1992) and Fa Mulan in Mulan (1998). She
was named a Disney Legend in 2011 for her work with The Walt Disney Company.[7] Salonga
starred as Mei-li in the 2002 Broadway version of Flower Drum Song. She has played numerous
other stage, film and TV roles in the US, the Philippines and elsewhere. She has toured widely in
the title role of Cinderella, among other roles, and as a concert artist. From 2015 to 2016, she
returned to Broadway in Allegiance, and from 2017 to 2019 she appeared in the Broadway
revival of Once on This Island.

THE REASON WHY I CHOOSE THE SONG

There’s a scene where jasmine and aladdin ride on a magic carpet. In this scene, the song "A
whole new world" appears. the first time I heard it, I fell in love with this song. There are lyrics
that say Over sideways and under on a magic carpet ride the lyrics really show the current scene.
The lyrics also meaningful. My favorite lyrics are
A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we’re only dreaming
It means that you have to be brave, you have to show your true talent. Because no one forbids it,
or says you only dream.

MORAL VALUE

The moral value of this song is everyone has their own perceptions of seeing the world. When
we got problems, some are afraid to face them and choose to go alone because they think the
world is so cruel. Afraid to make decisions, even afraid to dream. However, without realizing it
there will always be people who care and sympathize for us. Whether it's friends or family. They
will gain pleasure and motivate us to get up and fight to realize our dreams.
