PART 1
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“The best graduating student for the School of Biblical Studies of this session
goes to Adeyanju Badmus!” That was my darling husband being referred to .

You should have seen that proud look on my face.. I noticed all the other
wives looked my way in envy, but it didn’t mean Jack to me, because I was
the woman of the moment... My husband was the best Graduating Student
of Biblical Studies... meaning my husband was the most Spiritual of all
husbands! Gosh!

Was I expecting it? Sure! And that was why I dressed to kill that Sunday. My
designer shoe was the one my favorite aunt sent to me. My hat was the one I
bought with my one month Salary.

My dress! Actually cost three months’ salary. It was pure cotton...

I knew my husband would be the best graduating student, so my look and his
Look was deliberate that Sunday!

Towards the end of the ceremony, my day took another turn, an unexpected
sudden turn, a catastrophic turn, a twisted turn, a turn of the century, a turn
that could actually slaughter someone.

“Like we all know, Our Mission Church in Mororo has been without a Pastor
for 6 months! We are therefore still making this announcement once again.
Anyone who feels led to pastor the Mororo Church should please Let us
know! God is passionate about the Mororo people!” The Parish Pastor said
towards the end of the service.

“I will go!” I obviously did not expect such a word from my husband, so it
didn’t register with me, but I knew the voice must have sounded like my
husband’s...

With the slow movement of my head, I turned to Adeyanju and asked the
obviously stupid question...

6
“Did you say something?” I asked Adeyanju

“Me? Did I say anything?” He said

Susan, Josh’s wife took it upon herself to stand up and make it official... She
started clapping....

“Bro Adeyanju has decided to go... He just said...” Susan said and everyone
joined in the clapping...

“Wow! wow!”

“Amazing!”

“Awesome!”

Different words were popping out of people’s mouths from different corners..

“Adeyanju, say something...take back what you just said!” I said between
closed teeth...

“I mean.. I would love to go, If I am Led!” Adeyanju said and the whole
church went silent in disappointment

“Aww, I thought as much, I am sure you quickly realized book knowledge is

not the same as field experience!” Susan said sarcastically. I knew she was
angry her husband did not get the award for the best graduating student, so
she was looking for every opportunity to spoil the day for my husband!

“He will go!” I said without thinking... Susan couldn’t deflate my Husband’s
honor. He was to be celebrated that day, so I was not going to stand and
watch Susan turn it to a day of mockery for him out of envy...

Followed was a round of applause by everyone and a session of thanksgiving

to God for raising Adeyanju for Mororo...

*****

“Bro Adeyanju is the best Man for Mororo...!”

7
“His Bible Knowledge will really work in Mororo!”

“Not only that, his prayers will set Mororo on Fire!”

I heard those words as I catwalked towards My Father’s Office. My Father

was the General Overseer of our ministry, but Church was Church and Home
Affairs was Home Affairs... I had one intention....

*****

“Dad, Adeyanju can’t go to Mororo. It was a slip of tongue.” I said

“A slip of tongue? From who?”

“From me, From Him!”

“Dad, please use your good office to say that you don’t have our blessings.
Tell the church it is because we are still looking up to God for the fruit of the
womb and I need to be in the city for my routine medical checkup.!”

“Adenike, I cannot do that! You cannot tell the Angel of the Lord who was in
the service that we were Joking. He must have taken the report of the service
to God. We have offered thanksgiving to the Lord on Adeyanju’s behalf...
How do we go back to God and tell him, we were joking?” Father said and I
knew I had to win this battle another way...

******

“What did he say?” Adeyanju asked

“We are going to Mororo, but don’t Worry Adeyanju, we will be back in not
so far away time from now!” I said smiling knowing how I was going to
deliberately fall sick in Mororo and get my father to pull me out of there in
less than a week....

******

The road to Mororo was terribly broken at different spots.. A journey that
should have taken 6 hours ended up taking us 9 hours. We eventually got to
Mororo around 4pm. Unlike most villages we had passed, Mororo appeared
deserted. No one was outside...

8
“Are you sure people live in this village?” I asked very terrified

“Well, The Map tells us this Is Mororo...” Adeyanju said

“Maybe we should try knocking on one of the doors?” I said

Suddenly a Lady ran towards our car... She had blood all over her body!

“Help me!” She said

“What is wrong? Are you okay?” I said very concerned, though afraid

“I am a witch and I just killed someone... The people want to burn me alive!
Please help me...” the strange girl said and as she did her black pupil turned
blue.

I froze on the spot and I am sure Adeyanju died on the spot as well...

PART 2
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“Adeyanju! Step on the gas! Step.... on...the...accelerator" I screamed but
Adeyanju held the steering like It was his very own life...
“I don't think we should!" He replied shaking like a leave in the cold...
“Adeyanju, this is not the time to be Afraid, step on the gas!" I said as I
wanted us far away from the witch girl
" I think we should help her, This is what God expects of us, Bible states that
if your brother or sister comes to you for help and you tell him to come back
the next day, it will be counted as a sin!” Adeyanju said unbelievably as my
jaw dropped but I knew I had to salvage the situation again before we both
became the witch’s next target...
“Adeyanju, you are quoting the wrong scripture! What about suffer not a
witch to live?” I said as the witch girl kept knocking at the car window...
“Adeyanju, she is a witch!” I screamed one more time, but I couldn’t tell what
devil came over him. He pressed the release button of the car lock. The witch
girl saw it and opened the front door, pushing me and sitting in the front seat
with me... Her smell was choking... I could smell evil exuding from her, the
cloud of darkness around her was thick!
“Why don’t you take the back ...seat!” I managed to say
“I have no time for that... Adeyanju be a man and move this car!” The witch
girl commanded.
Adeyanju answered immediately.... I could read Adeyanju’s thought... I am
sure he was wondering how she knew his name. Adeyanju and I exchanged
shocked looks.
“Actually, we don’t know where we are going, we are ....” I said
“Missionaries...” The witch girl cut in

10
We knew the best thing for us was to be silent. We had picked up a wrong
passenger, all I was thinking was how, where and when she would alight....
“Take the next turn....” she commanded
“Take the Left turn!”
“Take the right bend!”
She kept giving the directions and we followed obediently.
After about 15 minutes of driving in circles, the witch girl said...
“Stop the Car!” She said and Adeyanju halted immediately
“That is your new house, but for Adeyanju’s sake, I will give you this advice..
Mororo is not for you! You won’t survive one week...and you Adenike, I
believe the reason you don’t yet have a child is because you are heartless. You
should be grateful I am not in a terrible mood, I would have punished you for
what you just did.” She said and like a scene from a horror movie I have never
been a fan of, she turned into a black bird with purple feathers before flying
away!
Our lives paused for few minutes that felt like time stopped for centuries.
“Adeyanju, reverse this car and get us out of here!” I managed to say while
feeling out of breath, but unfortunately the least of the thing I expected to
happen suddenly hit Adeyanju and I.

The car unexpectedly broke down....

“What just happened?” Adeyanju said as he kept trying to get the car engine
to respond...
Then followed was a sudden whirlwind, a wind that felt like the gods of
Mororo were angry...

PART 3
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“Wow!” Was what dropped from my mouth? What we met in the house was
a far cry from what I was expecting. The place looked like a mini palace...
This was not the picture of the kind of house I would have imagined
missionaries would live in Mororo....
The house on the outside didn’t look anything like a good place...
When the whirlwind had almost turned our vehicle upside down, Adeyanju
had screamed...
“Adenike, we need to get out of this vehicle!”
“To where?” I said because I was not planning to set my foot on the ground
of Mororo. Mororo didn’t look and feel like a good place...
“To the mission house! Adenike, Listen we need to be alive to be able to get
out of here, if we die in this vehicle, it is our dead bodies that will be carried
out of here. I believe it is better safe than dead....” Adeyanju said and his
words made sense....
With unsteady feet, I alighted, but the wind that embraced me was very tough
and violent. I ran towards the mission house the witch girl had pointed to us
hoping to escape the wind. The picture of the interior of the house I was
expecting to see was a dirty, dusty and archaic interior but what we saw made
me say wow!
“Who did this? Or is someone living here?” Adeyanju said. The living room
looked beautiful. It had beautiful wall paintings, beautiful curtains. The
interior design was really Looking amazing, with deep buttoned Plush
upholstery, the floor was a sparkling wooden surface...
“We were duly informed, you will be coming!” A Voice said from inside the
kitchen.
Two ladies walked out of the Kitchen, they were identical twins, there was
something definitely strange about them but I couldn’t place it.

12
Adeyanju stepped back in fear and surprise...
“We are the Adegbile Sisters, we are members of the Mororo Church. We had
received a message from your father that you both will be coming, so we
decided to make this place look a bit like the city house you are used to!”
One of the sisters said
“Oh! “ I said but I wasn’t convinced about the truth of what she had said
“Oh Thank you my sisters ... This is really beautiful and very thoughtful of
you! We appreciate it!”
“We will be leaving, by tomorrow the other members will be happy to come
for early Morning prayers!”

“Oh! Where is the church?” I asked

“Here! We hold our services here...”
“What?” I asked in shock. I never liked mixing church affairs with home
affairs. I didn’t like the idea of members coming into the house of their
pastor, it had a way of making members unconsciously lose respect for their
Pastors.
“Yes...”
“Ok, thank you sisters!” Adeyanju said obviously dismissing them. He knew
I didn’t like the idea of hosting the church in our house.

The sisters left or better still pretended to have left because as soon as we
devoured the food they had prepared for us, the two sisters appeared in the
room from the wall.
“Really, so you babies were the ones that was sent to Mororo...We just gave
you a simple test and you failed!” Said one of the twin...
“No discernment of Spirit in you! Well lucky you, the food wasn’t poisoned.
You both would have been dead...so we have a deal for you... Do not trouble
us like the last pastor and we won’t trouble you. Do your church thing without
attacking witches and wizards. Give the people false hope and whenever we
have punished someone, don’t try to pray for them. Are we clear?” The mean
twin said

13
Adeyanju and I nodded our heads like primary school babies. I could see the
baby look on Adeyanju...I was beginning to think of how to get us out of that
town when the friendly looking twin said...

“You are thinking about running away... I don’t think so... We like you and
we want you to stay! Feel Welcome!” Said the friendly twin witch
“ For God has not given me the Spirit of Fear, but of Love, power and of sound
mind” Adeyanju was saying under his breath as he could not look up into the
eyes of the witches...It was obvious my husband was a physical and spiritual
babe, despite knowing so much of the scripture.... The witches saw through
him and they both exchanged looks saying...
“ Omode o mo ogun, o npe ni efo ”
(When a child does not recognize a deadly herb, he calls it a vegetable")...said
the mean twin witch
“Baby Pastor! Welcome to Mororo, Happy pastoring!” The friendly twin said
laughing before they disappeared and no one told the other before we both
burst into tears.

PART 4
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
Adeyanju and I could not sleep throughout the night. We sat on the floor
cuddled like scared Babies. What added to our fear was the disappearance of
all the beauty of the house the moment the witches left. Obviously it was all
a facade, it wasn’t real. The house returned to what I expected; smelly, dirty,
dusty...
“Once it is daybreak, we leave” I kept saying to Adeyanju...
Adeyanju wouldn’t say a word. He just sat cuddled up very quiet.
A cock crowed and I knew it must be around 5am...
“We should leave...!” I said
“How?”
“We will pray and the vehicle will work!”
“Ok” Adeyanju said
I pulled him up as I felt guilty. I allowed my pride drag him to Mororo.
We carefully walked out of the house and got into the car! I held Adeyanju’s
hand...
“God, we are sorry for trying to show off in church. We know we have not
been sent here. Please forgive us!” I prayed
“Amen!” Adeyanju replied. With a careful hand and a skeptical look, he
inserted the key into the ignition..,
“Have faith!” I said in encouragement
He turned the key and at just one turn, the vehicle responded...
“Thank you Lord, Thank you Lord....” I said almost screaming..,

15
“Keep it low, you can shout all you want when we get out of here...” Adeyanju
said
Adeyanju stepped on the gas, and the vehicle moved forward. At the sound
of the vehicle, doors and windows of houses started opening. It was obvious
we had woken the people of Mororo up.
“Don’t stop, this is the first time I will ever encourage you to drive over 100,
infact increase your speed to 150 right now!” I said as I noticed Adeyanju was
getting confused the moment the doors and windows were opening...

“Adeyanju! Adeyanju!” I screamed at him...

Adeyanju was a pathetic case. A brainy without a heart. He was just
intellectually sound, but emotionally he was a baby; One of the errors of his
parents. His parents had made Adeyanju exert his energy and reasoning on
reading only. He had no human relationship. Their relationship was the only
thing Adeyanju acquired on his own, which was not totally by his power
alone.. I was the one who forced him into asking me out. He was always
around me, smiling at me, buying me gifts and whenever he saw other men
around he would be so devastated... The day I helped him out of his misery
was when I forced the words out of his mouth...
“Adeyanju, why are you always angry when you see other brothers around
me!” I had said after church
“Me! Angry?”
“Yes! You like me? You want me to be your girlfriend and you don’t know
how to say it!”
Adeyanju had kept quiet, for a brief second before saying...
“Actually, as a wife not a girlfriend... I don’t want you temporarily, I want you
permanently... You know the word girlfriend is a term...” Adeyanju was
already saying too much as he was about to give me the dictionary meaning
of “Girlfriend!” I decided to cut short the long story..,

“Yes! I will love to be your wife” I said and Adeyanju laughed still not looking
into my eyes...

16
This was the same Adeyanju that was about shutting down on me, he was
slowing down the car in fear.
“Adeyanju! Stop the car!” I said and he did immediately.
“Move! “ I alighted from the vehicle and turned to the driver’s seat. Adeyanju
moved to the passenger’s seat quietly. I got into the car and moved at top
speed...No Devil was going to stop me from leaving Mororo!
After driving for few minutes, I could see something that looked like a
roadblock ahead. I told myself, no roadblock was going to stop me. I was
going to drive past the roadblock, not minding any damage it will cause on
the car.
“I will fix the car in the city” I encouraged myself, but as I drew closer to the
supposed roadblock, I realized what stood on the road was not a wooden or
iron roadblock, but it was a roadblock made by humans...
“Adenike!” Adeyanju screamed in fear as I also halted at the sight.
There were about 8 men, 10 women, 15 teenagers and a lot of children
standing on the road with arms akimbo...
“Who are they?” I asked Adeyanju who replied with a blank look.

PART 5
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
I took my leg off the gas as trying to go past the roadblock would be homicide.
“Who are they and what do they want?” I said in fear.
“Probably another set of witches... and by the look on their faces, these ones
look very mean and unhappy...” Adeyanju said.
As we looked on with no intention of stepping out of the car, one of the men
who appeared like their spokesman walked towards the vehicle. Every step
he took towards us created serious fear in us...
“I come in peace and so do my people!” The heavily built man who was
handsome looking said.
I only responded by nodding...
“I am Oluwaseun, Formally Orisaseun. We are the members of the Mororo
Church. We were more than this before, but after the death of the last pastor,
some members left. We don’t want to leave, but we need someone to feed us.
How can we be saved if we haven’t heard or be preached to?” He said...
I looked towards the group and I felt pity for them. If what this man was
saying was true, then it was a pity that the villagers wanted the genuine Word
of God, but unfortunately they were starved...
However, I suddenly remembered the Adegbile sisters. They had also
deceived us into believing they were members of the Mororo Church...
“I am not going to fall for this again!” I said as I engaged the reverse gear
hoping to deceive them, thereafter pull a very fast one on them..,
“I think they are genuine!” AdeYanju said to me in a whisper
I rolled my eyes in irritation at AdeYanju.
“Would he know what was real or fake even if it was stuck into his nose?” I
thought silently... I rolled down the glass and with a release of air, I spoke to
the man...
18
“Sir, the thing is... We are the wrong people for Mororo. We are not
spiritually matured to lead or preach to you people. We came here thinking
Mororo was a child’s play but with what we have seen in less than 24 hours,
we are taking the report back to the parent church to send a more equipped
couple to you!” I said hoping the man would understand my point...
Instead of giving an answer or showing a sign of acceptance or otherwise, he
stepped away from the car to return to the “roadblock” group.
There was a distant chatter going on, I tried to read the response from the
group....
“They are not buying it...” Adeyanju said and it was obvious. I felt irritated
that he was speaking out the obvious
“Adeyanju, I need positivity right now and if you are not ready to give it me,
please just keep your words to yourself!” I said
“I think we should stay!” Adeyanju said again “The man quoted a sensitive
scripture moments ago.. He was quoting from Romans 10:13-14 which
says....For whosoever call upon the name of the Lord shall shall be saved.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how
shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they
hear without a preacher?.... Adenike this people need a preacher!” Adeyanju
said and if he was my brother and not my husband, I would have treated him
to a nice treat of hard slaps on his face....
“Adeyanju, it amazes me that despite knowing the whole scripture, you speak
the wrong one at the wrong time... this same scripture you just quoted, you
quoted the wrong verse... The verse that concerns us is verse 15a which says
dear Husband...”And how shall they preach, except they be sent?”....
I noticed Adeyanju still did not get my point...so I decided to help him
“Adeyanju, we were not sent to Mororo, we only came here to prove a point,
I brought you here to make you look like a real man!” I said with the tone
that said we were going back home...
The handsome heavily built man was walking back to us, but this time with
few of the group members...

19
“They want to speak to you” the man said
A teenage girl of not more than 12 years said...
“Please sir and ma’am, don’t go, I want to know more about Jesus. I love
Jesus and want someone to tell me more about Jesus, so that I can also tell
others about Jesus especially my Sister, Sade.” She said pointing towards the
bush.
I followed the direction of her hand. I saw the witch girl that had stopped our
car the day before. She was hiding behind a tree...
“Your sister?” I said
“Yes, my elder sister, she is a witch but she tells me she doesn’t want to be
anymore! And I know it is only Jesus that can help her... but Aunty I don’t
know Jesus enough to be able to help Sade... Please stay and teach me about
Jesus so I can help my sister..” the girl said and the soft part of my heart felt
her pain...
“But....!”

“PART 6”
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“Two weeks? AdeYanju why did you do this to us!”
I couldn’t believe what AdeYanju did few minutes back...
Although I had felt a bit emotional after the little girl’s talk but I wasn’t
moved to the point of wanting to stay back.., however AdeYanju said out of
the blues...
“We will stay with you for two weeks! I am a Bible graduate, so I will see what
I can do in two weeks...!” AdeYanju had said to the group that had walked up
to the car...
My world stopped! I looked at AdeYanju with a look that said
“Are you crazy?”
Then AdeYanju decided to put me on the spot by saying...
“Unless my wife says otherwise!”
And then I had over 8 pair of eyes looking at me for a supportive answer....
“Sure! Two weeks! He just said it, Two weeks he will teach you all you need
to know about Christianity, and after all he is the pastor!” I said sarcastically
“Thank you ma’am, thank you for being a good mother!” The spokesman
said...
“Ma, we can help you clean up the house!” One of the women said
Before I could turn down the offer, they all had marched towards the house...
Tears flowed down from my eyes...
“Adeyanju why? Why did you do this to us! Two weeks in this God forsaken
place... Adeyanju, this town doesn’t need a Bible student who just graduated,
it needs a pastor who is grounded in the word and has the fire of God in his
bones and you know you don’t even have a nerve in you talk less of Fire!”

21
I poured out my tears in frustration in the car! I kept hitting the car steering
very hard... For that moment, I regretted being the wife of a baby husband...
“Adenike, I am sorry. I couldn’t just watch us leave them. I promise you, just
two weeks...I will do a crash Bible course with them! Please at least let me do
something for myself...” Adeyanju said and I knew I had to stay back with
him.
That day was probably the worst day of my life as I watched how over 20
people kept walking in and out of my new home. I didn’t like people trooping
into my house...At night, I would always feel the presence of those people like
their Spirits were hanging around...
Therefore, when it was time to sleep, it was very impossible. I decided to sit
outside the balcony and with the solar powered lamp I brought, I tried to
read the scriptures....
Instead, I slept off
******
“They are staying back...” A voice said
“I told you they cannot be easily scared away..” Another voice replied
“But they carry no fire!”
“But they know the word, they just don’t know the power in it...”
“Well, let’s hope they never wake up to the power in the word... they won’t be
a problem!”
“What if they teach our people the Word and our people discover the power
in the word, then we are finished? What we have been able to achieve all
these years is because the people do not know the word, once they know the
Word, they will grow to have the Power!”
“So what do we do to stop this children from teaching them the word...!”
“Well, my suggestion is that, since we have tried sending them out and they
didn’t listen, let’s uproot them”
“Uproot them?”

22
“Yes!”
***
I snapped out of that trance... I couldn’t remember the faces of those
speaking but the words were clear...
“What did they mean by uprooting us?” I reasoned as I walked back inside
the house...
After a week of staying in Mororo, Adeyanju fell sick and I was beginning to
suspect this was what “Uprooting” meant...
“AdeYanju, we need to leave... You need to see the Doctor!”
“No, I know this is not a mere sickness, so I won’t be threatened by the devil
to stop my two weeks Bible study with this people... Adenike, if I die, I die!”
His words were exactly what happened...
Adeyanju died exactly 10 days after we stepped into Mororo....

PART 7
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
Days went by.
I didn’t want to believe Adeyanju was dead, so I told the members of the
Mororo Church, he was indisposed.
By the fourth day after his death, he was beginning to stink terribly, despite
cleaning his body every three hours and spraying our room with my strong
perfume.
Members who came to the house for evening Bible Study which I had started
taking were beginning to complain of the offensive smell... Few of the men
asked to see Adeyanju, but I told them, he was fine and didn’t want the
members seeing him the way he was.
“Ma’am, can we at least pray with him?” Seun said
“We can pray here without disturbing him!” I said and I could tell from
Seun’s eyes that he wasn’t satisfied with my answer.
Few hours later as I was taking the Bible Study, Seun came out suddenly out
of our bedroom weeping...
“How did you get in there?” I said in fury
“He is dead too!” Seun said to the other church members crying
“They have killed him!” Seun said..
The church members rushed to the room and saw a swollen Adeyanju...
There was an outburst of cries and tears...
“Adeyanju is not dead, I know he will wake up..,” I said in denial as I moved
to Adeyanju’s body, his body had turned darker... Tears flowed on its own...
Reality was beginning to dawn on me... I had lost Adeyanju because of
Mororo...

24
****
My parents, My In laws and few elders of our church had come to Mororo in
a rush. Some of the Church elders had gone to the city to send an email to
our parent church. The church had come with an ambulance to carry
Adeyanju’s body...
His mother was a mess, I couldn’t bear to look her in the eye...
“My son died without a child!” Was all my mother in law was saying...
“At least, if he had a son, I would have had someone to look at...” Adeyanju’s
mother said wailing.
My father had walked up to me as I stood lost ...
“I am sorry Adenike, I should have listened to you! Forgive me!” My father
said to me... I felt his pain
“As soon as we leave here, we will never send any other person to Mororo!”
My father said
My father held me by the hand and asked me to get into his vehicle...
“I am not going!” I said
“What did you say?”
“Father, they cannot take my husband and expect me to bow my head in
shame ... No, I want to confront them..” I said very angry as I looked around
hoping the Adegbile sisters would show their faces...
My father succeeded in getting me out of Mororo...
Adeyanju was buried and I returned to my parents’ house....
****
“Please save me!” Said Sade the witch girl
“We need you in Mororo!” A man said
“Save us please!” A pregnant woman said crying as she labored to give birth

25
These were the words that haunted my sleep for weeks... I had disturbing
dreams every night.
*****
“I need to go back to Mororo, Father send me back there!” I said to my father
during breakfast one Saturday morning...
“What?” My father said as his hand which he used in carrying his tea cup
became suspended
“The people need someone who is ready to help them! I am ready!”
My Father did not utter a reply, instead he picked up his phone and made a
call...

“Anne, how are you? A very quick one... I will be sending Adenike to you, she
needs a change of environment...” My father said as he continued speaking
to his sister who was living in Dubai....
“I am not going to Dubai, I am going to Mororo!” I said with a loud voice...
My father turned sharply and ended the call with my Aunty...
I saw him pressing another set of digits, I knew whoever he was calling was
going to be a strong force to contend!
“I need to find a way out of here!” I concluded in my heart.... “Mororo, here
I come!”

PART 8
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“Am I meant to run into a hole to hide after what the devil and his agents did
to me? Dad, Dubai is not what I need right now! What I need is to settle the
scores between the devil and I... I lost what is most precious to me, I lost the
man that could have given me children and grandchildren, yet the devil
wants to have Mororo to himself... No, he has to lose what is in possession
too! The devil is highly inconsequential for me to run away from... He is a
Ghost and I cannot be scared of a ghost!
Dad, Mum, I am sorry, I have to run away, but that’s what the best is for me...
I am returning to Mororo!”
Adenike.
I dropped the letter on the living room table and left the house around 11am,
after my parents had left for a special church program.
I left for Mororo that same day with my mother’s car. I got to Mororo very
late when the entire Mororo had on obviously gone to sleep.
But!
I could sense the Adegbile Sisters knew I was around. As I drove past the
Mororo bushes, I felt two invisible figures running alongside my car on the
two sides.

“You can’t scare me, if that’s what you are trying to do...!” I said with strong
determination.
I literally could feel them around me and possibly fuming in anger...
I got to the mission house in one piece! Surprisingly, I met Seun there...
“You came back! Something kept telling me to come here every night since
you left. The thing kept telling me to pray that you come back and finish the
work God has sent you to do in Mororo!”

27
“That thing is called the Holy Spirit!” I said smiling. Seun moved closer to
me and with a pleading voice, he said
“Ma, please don’t leave us again. I have realized my mistake with your
husband and the other pastor who died, I wasn’t praying for them... The
thing... I mean the Holy Spirit was telling me that we the church members
ought to be praying for our pastors... I promise to pray for you every day so
the evil ones of Mororo never touch you!”
I looked at Seun intently for the first time. He spoke English Fluently and he
didn’t seem like someone who should be living in Mororo...
“What are you doing in Mororo, you speak well...” I said
“I am not from Mororo, My wife is, I mean my Wife was... I met my wife in
the City, but she loved Mororo dearly. She had come to the city to work as a
maid in my parents’ house as early as 7 years old. We literally grew up as
siblings. My parents gave her an education, so this made it easy for my
parents to accept her when I said she was the one I wanted to Marry..
We got married 12 years ago, but couldn’t have children for four years. This
made my wife start searching for solution everywhere and anywhere. It was
on one of these searches, she met Jesus! My wife became sold out...
My parents were not Christians, so they couldn’t get along with my wife
anymore... They asked me to leave her, but I couldn’t because I loved my
wife...
We lost everything as, we were both working with my parents....
My wife and I moved in with the Pastor who had led her to Christ, and though
it wasn’t comfortable, I had to manage that new life because of the love I had
for my wife. In the midst of these, by hearing the word of God in the Pastor’s
house, I was gradually becoming converted.
About 6 years ago, my wife had woken me up in our little apartment the
Pastor later helped us to get...

“Seun, I have a burden for my village, I want to go back to Mororo. My people

need Jesus! And maybe if I served God in Mororo, God may give us
Children!”

28
I followed her here, but I guess we weren’t prepared enough, I knew only a
little about Jesus from what I had heard the pastor preached back in the
city... My wife was just zealous as well...”

“What happened to her that made you refer to her as “Was”. Is she dead
also?” I asked in fear.
“Dead? That would have been better, because unfortunately, She is now the
priestess of Mororo, the head of all witches in Mororo....!”
“What! How? I mean what happened?” I asked obviously bewildered
“It is a long story!” Seun said looking heartbroken...

PART 9
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“You should be hungry after the Long trip!” Seun said obviously trying to
change the direction of the conversation...
“No I am fine... I bought few snacks on my way...” I replied stating him in the
eyes with the silent conversation that I wanted to hear his Wife’s story.
However, we both became quiet...
“You haven’t...” I was saying when he also started speaking
“When we got...!” He said simultaneously
We both laughed at the simultaneous talk...
“Patience! I need to learn it... I always want to get to the root of an issue!” I
said laughing, defending my impatience
“It’s fine... “he said, but after a short pause, he continued...
“After my wife and I got to Mororo, we rented a mini apartment very close to
her parent’s house...She started preaching to little children, teenagers and
youths. The Christian story was intriguing and interesting to the young
ones...
Gradually, mothers started following their children to the services.
Husbands started following their wives... The Church became more of a new
social society. It was more of My wife telling Bible stories and afterwards ,
the members would eat and drink...
This didn’t sit well with me, because I remembered how Pastor John’s service
used to look and feel like back in the city. It was always filled with singing,
reading the Bible and drawing out revelations from the stories. I knew
prayers were always said. However, the church my wife was heading was
more of a party than a spiritual place...
I remember calling her attention to it...

30
“Dear, can we invite Pastor John to have a weekend program with us in
Mororo?”
“Why? Are we not doing enough?” She said
“We are, but I feel there are some aspects of Christianity we are yet to include
in what we are teaching the Mororo people!”
“Like?”
“I really cannot place it, but I have that feeling something is not totally right!”
My Wife had hissed and walked out on me. I had to later apologize for
doubting her spiritual competence.
Months later, My Wife’s mother summoned both of us to her room!
“Orisabunmi, the time has come!” My mother in law had said and My wife
and I exchanged looks.
“Time for what?” My wife asked
“To enter into your destiny!” My mother in Law said
“What destiny? Maami, what are you talking about?”
“You are a product of the kindness of the river goddess. When I was barren
for 11 years, the river goddess was the one who came to my rescue and gave
you to me...and ever since you got married, we haven’t heard the cry of a baby
in your house. I decided to go back to the river goddess through the cult I
belong to, to ask questions.
****
“Adesewa, you came to pick one of my daughters, and made her a messenger
of a foreign God!” Yeye the head of the Witchcraft cult had spoken on behalf
of the river goddess.
“Ha! Goddess ooo, I am sorry, Orisabunmi is still your daughter, and she only
brought a new way of life for the people, the lifestyle of the city people!”

“The Lifestyle that does not allow her to serve me...!”

“I am sorry! “
31
“Well, let her continue, that’s your choice, at least you are comfortable with
not having grandchildren!”
“Ha! Is that why she has been unable to bear children?”
“She needs to be married to her Spirit Husband, then he will give her
permission to give birth for the physical Husband!” Yeye had said
*****
“My wife and I had looked at each other very shocked and confused... My
mother in law meant business...
“ I am not asking you to stop what you are doing, I mean the Christian thing,
but you need to remember your source, you need to be indoctrinated back
into the cult and thereafter a Spiritual marriage will be conducted, which will
give the permission to have physical children!”
“Never! I am the only husband of my wife!” I had said furiously, but my wife
sat very quietly looking very lost....
“Bunmi won’t you say something!” I said expecting her to refuse the offer...
“Maami, is that all I have to do?” I heard my wife saying unbelievably....
I looked at her very shocked and what she said to me that got my eyes popped
was...
“Give unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar and Give unto the Lord, what
belongs to the Lord...!”

PART 10
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“What? She said that?” I was beyond shocked.
I knew what it felt like for a woman to be childless. I knew desperation could
set in. I had been in those shoes so I knew how well it hurt, but I wasn’t sure
wanting to have a child could push me into witchcraft.
“I know she was desperate to have a child, especially since my parents were
placing serious pressure on her, but I tried encouraging her to be strong, but
she would not have it!”
****
“Seun, God is the one who gave the witches the power they are also using...
Can anyone do anything If God does not give the power to them... They can
also create children!”

“No BUNMI, they cannot create children, my mother once told me that some
of the children gotten from wicked powers are sometimes animals or demons
projected in women’s body who through incantations take the form of
humans. That is why you see some children behaving like certain animals...
Mother also said some children are actually from God, but the moment you
go to the wrong places, they deceitfully claim the ownership of the child and
in a bid place evil restrictions on that child! Besides, you are a pastor, doing
this will be a disgrace. Don’t do what will not make you fit to be a pastor
anymore!”
Bunmi had clapped...
“Not fit? I knew this was your plan, you want to become the pastor in charge
of the church, take it, Seun, take it...”
***
“Bunmi had said that and I thought it was just an empty threat. The next day
during the Bible study. She had stood up in front of the group...” Seun was
saying to a perplexed me.

33
****
“God is the same in all religion, My Husband and I have decided to serve you
people better. He will be leading you in the Christian way, while I have
decided to go the traditional way. This way I am able to correct the evil in
that religion!” Bunmi said
***
“I knew that was not my wife speaking, so I pulled her aside asking her if she
was alright, but instead I got a slap. Things went from bad to worse, and from
worse to Terrible. It felt like she was under a spell. What was baffling was the
fact that she was doing all she was doing to have a child, but yet she wasn’t
friendly with me; the man she ought to have the child with.”
I maintained total silence as I was lost for the right words...
“So she joined them and the rest they say is history. To me she is good as
dead. Though I am not fully rooted in Christianity, I can and will not dine
with evil!” Seun said finally
“But why did you decide to stay back in Mororo?” I asked
“To prove a point...!”
“Which is?”
“Christianity will survive in Mororo without Bunmi!”
I looked on at Seun dumbstruck.
Was Christianity just a competition to him?
No wonder Mororo was the way it was! The foundation of the Christianity
practiced there was weak... They were not serving God for Who He is, But
they were trying to prove a point...
Jesus!

PART 11
“GHOST RUN!”
Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
I didn’t need anyone to tell me, Mororo was a tough village and it was rather
unfortunate that those who needed to bring Light into the village through
Christianity had the wrong motives...
“God, if only you can give me Spiritual power, I will turn this village around
for you, delivering Mororo from the hands of the evil ones!” I thought silently
to myself.
“You will do no such thing...” Seun and I jumped back as we heard a female
voice say...
“She is around?” Seun said while looking around. His voice had a bit of fear
mixed with irritation...
I wanted to ask who that was, but I obviously was able to do the math’s. His
Wife, Bunmi was definitely the She, he was referring to....
Like a scene from a horror movie, she gradually started appearing bit by bit,
starting from her hand that held a white beaded short staff, which signified
authority. Next, half of her right body was revealed. She tied a white feathery
wrapper around her, with a beaded neckpiece done like a cape on her neck....
“Adenike, this is not a game for fashion oriented girls, not a game for girls
who stay all day talking, not a game for Daddy’s girls. !” She said as her fully
body was revealed...
“I am not here to play a game, and since you know me so well, you should
know I hate playing games...” I retorted
Silence!
After few seconds... Seun was about to talk when Bunmi shut him up...
“I am not here for you! When you are done deceiving yourself you will leave
Mororo. You should be grateful you are my husband, that’s why I Haven’t
killed you!”

35
“But you could kill my husband!” I said angrily
“That was not me... Your husband was an easy prey for me to waste my
powers on... He was a spiritually lifeless being... and killing him would have
been an insult. If you are grieved about that, Speak to the Adegbile sisters”
Bunmi said as she moved around..
“That however brings me to the reason why I am here today!” She said
“Which is?” I said
“Get out of here, before I personally kill your parents! I know your parents
are quite spiritual, but I also know my way around. I know some of their
secret misdemeanors that will give me the access to strike them both dead in
one day. What a pain that would be!”
“Adenike! Adenike! Adenike!” Bunmi called out with her eyes shining with a
touch of red flame in her pupil...
“I give you two days to leave this village, or else you will have no choice to
leave after you hear their sudden demise” As soon as she ended her words,
she disappeared without waiting for my reply.
“She will do it” Seun said looking defeated... “I advise you return home, she
doesn’t kill her victims, but she kills the loved ones of her victims, in other to
cause her victims pain.
That was the point of decision making and I took the best decision for me,
which was.....

PART 12
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“Adenike, please Marry Me!” Nonso knelt in the common room of the
Embassy during lunch in front of an embarrassed me...
“Nonso, what are you doing? Please stand up.” I said as I stood visibly
shaken...
“Say Yes! Adenike Just Say Yes!” I heard the loud cheers of the other staff
members...
“Say Yes to what?” I stood there completely blank. The suddenness of
whatever Nonso was doing got Me Numb. We had just met, precisely 5
months before the weird proposal...
This was six months after I left Mororo. I left that night after my discussion
with Seun and his Priestess wife. I wasn’t ready to lose my parents. My
husband was dead and I didn’t have the heart to lose another person.
Mororo wasn’t worth it!
I had returned to my parents’ house who surprisingly were very welcoming.
My mother was particularly happy stating she had been praying all day for
me to return back. I settled back into my life, but I was too broken to return
back to my Father’s Church. I couldn’t bear to look the other women in the
face. It was going to be hard coping without Adeyanju by my side.

How I missed Adeyanju, my best friend, my lover, my friend, the perfect man
for me!
I had told my father I needed a secular job also. I apologetically told him I
couldn’t continue with my present job of working at the church.
By what I felt was divine Providence, I met an old friend who got me a Job at
one of the embassies in Nigeria.

37
My Job was a well-paid job that came with its juices that perked me up. In
Just three months, I had traveled to 5 countries for different trainings. I met
new friends, I was becoming more exposed and I cursed myself for wanting
to lose all of that for Mororo.
Nonso was my colleague who couldn’t get over me, but I wasn’t ready for any
emotional entanglement. From the first day I stepped into my office, Nonso’s
time stopped ticking. He looked at me like I was an angel that just dropped
from the sky. He was discussing with Tamuno at the time, but my entrance
into the office got his mouth wide opened... I had to double check if I wasn’t
stained in anyway....
While everyone came to say hi, he didn’t come and for days he avoided me
like a plague.
After about a week of resuming the office, I took the boldness and walked up
to him...
“Good Morning Nonso, I am Adenike, I just resumed this job a week ago and
I think we haven’t met officially!” I said stretching my hand to him and I can
say that probably was the mistake I made. Nonso started blushing. His face
turned red and with obvious excitement he accepted my handshake...
What I expected him to say was “Nice to meet you!, but instead what I heard
from him was...
“Oh my God! Your palm is so soft!”
“What!” I literally screamed..,
Nonso had glued himself to me for the next five months. It was hard for
anyone to believe I wasn’t dating him, even my parents were always beaming
with smiles anytime he came around.
Nonso was the kind of “Boyfriend” that you couldn’t hide. He wanted to know
everyone and anyone related to me. He wanted to go with me to family
functions. He started attending my Father’s church.

My mistake which I believe prompted the unexpected proposal was probably

what I said to him the Friday before the Monday he proposed...I wanted to
get him off my back.

38
“Nonso, when am I going to meet your girlfriend or your fiancée?” I asked
out of the blues at the restaurant where he forced me to have dinner with him
that Friday night.

“My girlfriend?” He asked looking shocked.

I nodded...
He rested his back in his chair and didn’t say a word as I continued eating...
“Don’t tell me you don’t have a girlfriend at this age, Nonso you will be
turning 40 in the next two months!” I said laughing
He sat still looking at me... At that point I knew I had gotten him where I
wanted. I wanted to define the relationship between us...

“Nonso, what’s wrong, this is the first time in five months that my bestie will
be without words...Hmm... Nonso I am sorry if I invaded your privacy....”
Nonso still kept mute...
“Nonso! Are you okay?”
He recovered from whatever shock he was in and faked a smile...
“I am fine! “
“Ok, so when do I meet her?”
“Soon!” He said and that was probably the first time Nonso ever answered
me with a one word statement...

After about 5 minutes we left the restaurant and Nonso was quiet throughout
the ride. He didn’t call, or reply my calls during the weekend, so you could
imagine my shock when he threw a proposal at me on a Monday in the
office...
“Adenike, please Marry me!”

39
PART 13
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
I didn’t know what to do, Nonso had tears already pouring out of his eyes...
“Nonso, please stop this, I cannot do this... I just lost my husband six months
ago and you want me to get married to you!” I said with tears pouring out of
my own eyes as well
“I know and I am ready to mourn him with you! Please you are the woman I
have been waiting for, I always knew there was a woman for me, and that
made me stay this long... Please Adenike, Just Say Yes! We don’t have to get
married now. I am ready to wait for you till you are ready!” Nonso said
I looked around and I saw different reactions. His friends were making jest
of him, I knew if I said No, they will make his life miserable. I saw Modesta,
gazing at me with full blown bitterness. Everyone knew she had a serious
crush on Nonso...
I bent down and whispered in Nonso’s ear...
“I am just going to say yes for now to save you the open ridicule...” I said and
Nonso replied
“Thank you!”
“Yes, It will be a great Honors to be your Wife if the Lord Wills” I said as I
accepted Nonso’s ring...

For the next 15 minutes before the end of the lunch break, it was a beautiful
hullabaloo. Nonso was on top of the heavens. Colleagues congratulated us,
we took pictures and even had a surprise cake Nonso had ordered...
The rest of the working hours of that day was a hard one for me. I wanted to
run away from the office. The moment it was 3:45, I left the office to the
parking lot. I deliberately did not take my bag. I only took my wallet and my
two phones. I didn’t want Nonso to know I was leaving!

“Leaving?” Nonso had shouted from across the room

40
“No, I want to get something from the car!”
“Ok! Or should I come along?” He joked
“She can walk!” Modesta said as a dry joke
“That reminds me, I need to pick something from my car as well” Modesta
said as she walked ahead of me...
I smelt trouble but I kept walking...
The moment we got to a blind spot of the office (a place there were no
cameras), Modesta turned and faced me..,
“I know who you are.. You are a witch, you killed your first husband and from
what I heard, he was a dummy you pushed around. Your charm was so strong
on him, he foolishly followed you to a village where he was slaughtered as a
sacrifice for your father’s ministry... Listen well and Listen good, Nonso will
not be your new prey. I may not be a witch like you, but I have my ways of
doing things, so stay clear!”
I couldn’t breathe...
Modesta accused me of killing my own husband, my Adeyanju, the best
friend I ever had... The man I wanted to be honored at all times. It was my
craze for him not to be looked down on that made me push him to Mororo...
I walked towards my car like I was walking on hot stones... My brain had shut
down because one of my phones fell from my hands and I didn’t realize it...
It was a security guard that picked it up and rushed to give it to me as I got
into my car...
“Your phone ma?” He said
“What?” I asked dumbly while looking at him very clueless
“Your phone fell ... Are you ok ma?” He asked looking very concerned
I didn’t say a word and like someone brain dead, I drove off without
collecting my phone.
I kept driving with no destination in mind. My tears were pouring
continuously ... I began to remember all my memories with Adeyanju, from

41
the day I forced him to define our relationship... I remembered how smart he
was. I remembered him helping me with house chores always, He cooked
most times, he laid the bed always, He helped me trim my nails, and He was
even the one who washed my underwears. Adeyanju had the heart of a child
in love... How could I kill such a man? If Modesta had accused me of
something else, it may not have had a huge effect on me, but killing Adeyanju
was the height...
I got to the third mainland bridge in Lagos. I had heard of how people jumped
into the sea ... The moment I thought about it, I got a reply immediately in
my Spirit...
“You kill yourself, you end up in hell!”
I parked my car and used the double pointer. I sat still thinking of what to
do... Firstly, I removed Nonso’s engagement ring and threw it out of the car...
“The Adegbile Sisters!” I reasoned quietly.
“You made Modesta accuse me of killing my husband... You are both going
to pay for this...!”
My second phone started ringing...
“Nonso!”
I picked up and before he could say anything I said...
“Nonso, forget the engagement. I just threw your ring out of the window. Tell
Modesta, I have taken my hands off you and tell her, I didn’t kill my husband
but the witches of Mororo did and it’s high time they paid for it! Bye Nonso!”
I said as I ended the call....
With tears in my eyes, I blocked Nonso’s number from reaching me....
I checked the dashboard to see the level of my fuel. It was half full. I drove to
a gas station and filled my tank up...
“Mororo, here I come!” I said without knowing how my journey would lead
to events that would launch me into the deep...

42
PART 14
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
I must have driven half way to Mororo and it was getting very dark and my
headlights were failing me, plus my sight was getting blurry. My parents and
Nonso had been calling endlessly. Nonso was using my second line that the
security had picked up. The rate at which they were calling, my battery would
have been dead if not for the car charger.
I was tempted to switch it off, but somehow I was restrained...
My bladder was full and I needed to ease myself.
I halted and got out. On returning to the car, I jumped back in fear at the
sight of Bunmi in the passenger’s seat.
“Jesus!” I screamed
“That’s a powerful name!” Bunmi said
“What are you doing in my car? I am not coming for you. I am coming for the
Adegbile sisters!”
“You should come into the vehicle so you don’t get hit by a vehicle. Though
you are going to die very soon, it will be a pity if you die now and your family
won’t get the privilege of finding your body!”
With that I got into the vehicle...
“Bunmi, what do you want from me?”
“Adenike, what do you want from Mororo? You are not a child of the soil so
I am wondering why you have such great interest in my village” Bunmi asked
“The Adegbile sisters killed my husband and I must make them pay!” I said
“How?”
I didn’t have the answer to that question...

43
“I think as the only female child your parents had, It has affected your
upbringing. You always act on impulse not thinking about the consequences
of your actions... I came here just to give you one last chance... I know you
are a good person and you don’t deserve so much unhappiness. Return back
to your home, start a fresh life and Let Mororo be the way it is...”
“I am sorry, I have come half way and I cannot turn back!” I said
“The Adegbile sisters already know you are on your way and they will do
everything to stop you!”

“Nothing can stop me from getting to Mororo this night!”

“You think so...”
“I know so!”
“Alright... Good luck!” Bunmi said as she disappeared from my car...
I fired up the engine and increased my speed...
After about 15 minutes of driving, an unknown number kept calling
repeatedly... I had a strong urge to pick the call...
“Hello..!”
“Yes, Good Evening!”
“My name is Musa from the Federal Road Safety Corps. An accident just
happened along Lagos Ibadan Express road, and we saw the number as the
last dialed number on the victim’s phone. We have checked the ID card on
him, It reads Chinonso Arubayi .... He is presently in a comatose state as we
have been able to revive him. He was dead as at the time we got to him, but
he has been revived...Do you know him? “
“Ye..eee...sss” I said as I lost control of the wheels... My mind was all over the
place...
“The Adegbile sisters and Bunmi must have done this !” I thought silently
“Are you there?” The FRSC official said
“Yes ...” I said as I managed to park the vehicle.

44
“I am with you, Nonso is my frie.. my fiancé, I believe he was trying to catch
up with me.... I am four hours away from where you are. Please do everything
you can do to save him. I will turn back and return to Lagos. Just keep me
posted on the hospital you will be taking him... Please save his life, I cannot
lose Nonso too!” I said as hot tears flowed,
I got out of the vehicle in frustration, hitting the car and crying...
“God, why would you keep watching evil prospering... Why? Why can’t you
wipe these evil people from the surface of the earth? Why do the evil people
call the shots?” I broke down in tears defeated. If I didn’t want to lose Nonso,
I had better turn back. The Adegbile sisters and Bunmi had given me a
sample of what they were capable of doing to my loved ones.
With pain in my heart and pain all over my body from the hours of driving, I
turned back.
I got to Lagos teaching hospital hours later, in the early hours of the next
morning. Nonso had been put in the ICU. The accident had dealt badly with
him.
My parents were there before I got there. Nonso had reached out to them
after I mentioned Mororo. My father said Nonso had asked for the way to
Mororo. My father said out of selfishness; with the hope that Nonso could
convince me to return, he had given him the description to Mororo...
Nonso’s aged mother was devastated!
“God please, don’t let me lose Nonso, I can’t lose two men in one year...!” I
prayed silently

PART 15
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
Three troubling days had passed.
Nonso had shut down about four times but the timely intervention of the
doctors restored him back to life. I refused leaving the hospital, I wanted to
see to the end of the matter. I prayed all the prayers I knew how to pray. I
didn’t mind sleeping on the bare cold floor of the hospital. I felt my presence
at the hospital would not let the Adegbile sisters or Bunmi finish their evil
assignment.
“Adenike, you need to go freshen up!” My mother had said
“I am fine” I said
“No you are not! You are oozing...”
“Mummy, I cannot leave here!”
“No one is asking you to leave here, just take a 2 hours break. Go home,
freshen up and return here. Your father and I have been doing that for three
days, likewise Nonso’s mother and his siblings!”
“Nonso’s mother lives just across the street!”
“Adenike!” My mother said raising her voice and I honestly did not have the
strength to argue...
“Ok mum!”
I left Nonso with my mum. My Dad had gone to the church, while Nonso’s
mother had returned home.
On getting home, I took the much needed bath and out of exhaustion, I laid
on the bed. I woke up 5 hours later..
However, in the course of my much needed rest, I had a dream.
I saw a land where I was a pastoring a church. The members were quite
much. Suddenly, an odd religion surfaced and a man started referring to

46
himself as the messiah... Some of my members started following the new
religion because the man was doing strange miracles and wonders. Although
the miracles were not lasting miracles, many still fell for it... Almost all the
members of my church fell for the new religion and I kept asking...
“Why is it so easy for these people to backslide? Why is it so easy for them to
throw their belief in Christ away?”
I woke up from the dream! The first thing I did was to check the time. On
realizing I had slept for 5 hours, I dashed out of the house without giving my
dream a second thought...
*****
I walked to the ICU, my parents were not in sight and neither was Nonso on
the bed anymore.
My eyes were turning, I began to do a 360 turn looking for Nonso. And for
the split of a second, I saw Nonso standing before me saying...
“Adenike, I am sorry! I couldn’t fight it anymore”
I tried to stretch my hands to him but my hands caught nothing...
“Adenike!” I heard my Father’s voice like an echo...
“Daddy, Where is Nonso?” I managed to ask but my Father’s response of
silence said it all...

I screamed so loud I knew the whole hospital would have heard me. I wanted
to just die....
For days, I ate nothing. I cried all day in my room. I wanted to turn back the
hands of time. I wanted to reverse back to that day, I made AdeYanju and I
go to Mororo... I wanted to undo everything.
On the fifth day after Nonso’s death, I was alone in my room when I had an
open vision. I was seeing Mororo in plain sight...

I saw the Adegbile sisters discussing...

47
“Stupid girl, in her next life, she won’t dare the witches. This is Mororo, and
it is under our guidance, Mororo must continually be in darkness and no light
must come in...”

I saw Seun in his Living room...

“God, I think I will be leaving Mororo. I have wasted my years here, hoping
you will prove that you are God and more powerful than Evil, but instead
every one that comes here to liberate this town ends up losing their lives or
the lives of their loved ones... Is there no salvation in you?”
I saw the witch girl Adeyanju and I saw the first time we got into Mororo,
sitting in the forest...
“I thought they said you are more powerful than the witches, why are the
witches winning the Christians... Will Mororo ever be free?”
As I laid on my bed watching, I heard a voice loud and clear...
“Who will go for me? Who will go liberate my people from the claws of evil?”
“I will Lord! Please send me!” I said crying...
I laid on the floor weeping and it all dawned on me...
“If Mororo had received genuine salvation, they would have had the power
to defeat the evil ones!”
Two days later, I had packed my stuff after saying a short prayer...
“Lord, use me for Mororo in Jesus name”.
“I am ready to die and lose any member of my family for Mororo to be free!”
I had resolved.
****
“Adenike, Where to?” My father asked
“Mororo! “ I answered “And my advice is that you avoid any form of
unrighteousness so that you don’t become a prey of the enemy, because
nothing is stopping me!”

48
“Are you crazy?” My mother said hysterically “Are you in your right senses!”
My mother had jumped up at me
“Solanke, Let her be!” My father ordered my mum...
“Just one question, Adenike!”
I nodded in response...
“Do you have the Strength to conquer?”
“I will not glory in my own Strength, God will give me the Strength I require!”
I replied
“Do you know that God enough for HIM to supply you that Spiritual Strength
you need to Work for Him?”

I didn’t understand my father’s question, but then he said...

“Adenike, but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out
great exploits. Dan 11:32 New Kings James Version. Adenike, you can only
do exploits, if you have the Spiritual Strength that only comes from Knowing
God!
I was silent!
“Adenike, I ask again, do you know God?”

PART 16
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
The question obviously didn’t need an answer. I obviously didn’t know God
beyond what I have been taught in church. My knowledge of God was the
general knowledge of Who God was; That He is the maker of Heaven & Earth
and that He has a son named Jesus who died for our sins and through Him
we have the access to eternal life...
That was basically the knowledge I had and I had been recycling this
knowledge since childhood. No genuine quest to know God intimately...I
couldn’t boast of knowing a lot of scriptures.
“Adenike, you are not answering me!” My father said bringing out of my
world
“I don’t know!”
“You don’t know if you know God?” My father asked and I gave him no reply
“Then you should know that you are not ready for this trip to Mororo!”
“But God is sending me there, He asked who will go for Him?”
“Adenike, I don’t deny that you are called, infact it is a good thing, but
passion and zeal is not enough... Adenike!, My people are destroyed for lack
of knowledge... Adenike, most of the people who have gone to Mororo were
people who were passionate like you but they lacked the deep knowledge of
God, hence they were destroyed!”
“Adenike, I know I have my faults, I was carried away by the idea of having
missionary churches like my other Pastor friends. You know it is always a
thing of pride when we all gather at the Christian Fellowship of Nigeria and
pastors boast about how many mission churches they have established. Also,
having Mission churches was a way of making more money for the ministry.
People donate a lot towards the mission churches, so after settling the
Missionaries, the Church still has more than enough... So all of these got into
me and I never bothered about the Spiritual Strength of the men I sent into
the field. However, your involvement got me reevaluating myself...”

50
“Father! How can I know God, other than the way you have been teaching
me?”
“Knowing God is more than going to church and listening to what others are
receiving from God, You need to also receive from God. Don’t be a third party
Christian!”
My father didn’t have to tell me to return my boxes to the room. I did
voluntarily..
I sat on my bed for days not knowing how to start this journey of Knowing
God...
My Father must have noticed how uneasy and confused I was because he
came to my room one evening...
“Adenike, do you remember your best game as a child?”
“Hide and seek!” I replied as there was no debate about it.
“Your brothers gave you a tough time but you always had a way of
outsmarting them!”
I smiled remembering my younger days with my elder brothers...
“Whenever your brothers hide, you made sure you searched everywhere till
you found them. Why don’t you play that game again?” My father said
I looked at my father very puzzled not getting his point..
“Fortunately in this case, I will tell you where to find your subject of
interest...”
“Dad, I don’t get you, who am I playing hide and seek with?”
“You won’t be playing Hide and Seek this time around, but Seek and Find?”
“Daddyyyyy!” I didn’t have the patience for my father’s riddles...
“Whoever seeks me shall find me... I believe you have been trying to know
Who God is, why don’t you seek Him, search for Him and I can assure you,
you will find Him?”
“Where? Where do I find God?” I asked
51
Father took me by the hands and pulled me from the bed, Like a child whose
father was going to show her where her brother was hiding, I followed.
My Father opened the door to a room I hardly stepped into.
My Father’s Library. It was a Large room filled with Different Translations
Of Bible, Spiritual books by Spiritual Authors, Books by General Overseers,
Books written by Great Men and Great Women of God, Biographies of
Generals ....
“Here you will Find Him!” Was all my father said as he left me in the room
and Walked our...
How was I going to find God in over 300 books and uncountable Bibles... I
kept turning round with no idea of what to do with the books.
After about 10 minutes of wondering what to do with the books... I randomly
picked a book and sat on my Father’s Ancient study table...
“God... It’s time to play Seek and Find...I am not leaving here until I find
you!”

PART 17
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“What do you mean I cannot go to Mororo?” I asked my Father.
It had been three months of digesting the Word. I had read the Bible front to
Back. I was filled with the Holy Spirit. I had started hearing God and I knew
without a doubt, God wanted me in Mororo.
“Adenike, I know you have had a genuine encounter with God, but Knowing
God and Passion is not yet enough. You still need one more thing?”
“What?” I asked
“We are going on a journey, when we get there, your question will be
answered!” My father said and I smiled knowing my father was trying to give
me a surprise. He probably was taking me to Mororo...
“Pack a few clothes, we leave before daybreak tomorrow“
I couldn’t sleep all night as excitement was bubbling in me. I was ready to
tear down the Shrine of the witches, the moment I got there...
Very early the next morning, we started journeying east. That looked strange,
because Mororo was not to the east... It was to the west.
“Where are we going Dad?”
“I am not going to sacrifice you like Abraham wanted to do with Isaac... Just
be patient!” My father said laughing

“Well, Adenike will snatch the knife from your hands and help you look for a
ram fast!” I said joining my father in the laughter...
We travelled for another three hours. I kept asking the HolySpirit for a clue
and all I kept hearing was “FAITH”.
We got to a Camp-like site. The gate opened on its own accord like it was
remotely controlled. We drove in and my father drove straight down like he
was familiar with the place...

53
“Dad, where is this place?”
“Where I should have brought you a long time ago...” My father said and I
noticed a change in his countenance.

“What are you talking about?” I asked him as I saw that look I never liked
seeing on him...
“Get down Adenike!” My father said with disgust in his voice...
“Captain!” My father shouted and a tall, slightly middle aged man in a
military uniform stepped out of a tent... He looked very fierce. Other fierce
looking soldiers both male and female came out of other places...
“Ha! Pastor... You are here!” The man who appeared to be the Captain
answered...
“Yes, I have brought her!”
The man walked to the vehicle where I sat frozen
“Where is she?”
“That’s her!”
“You mean this is your daughter that you want us to deal with? She is far
from a girl, she is a woman... We don’t need to torture her into reasoning
with you! “ He said
“She is a stubborn girl!” I heard my father refer to me...
“Dad, what is going on her...” I was saying but unfortunately I couldn’t
complete my question because the man had given me a very hot slap...
“When elders are talking, you don’t interrupt!” He said
This man couldn’t be more than 8-10 years older than I was. In response to
the shocking slap, I almost said the wrong words, but the Spirit of God
cautioned me..
“Three days...?” I heard my father saying...
“I am having a rethink, seems your mature daughter will be a hard one..”

54
“Take all the time you want, All I want is for you to get her to stop thinking
about that Village. I thought 3 months away from there will make her forget
the place, but no she wants to return there..!”

“Don’t worry Pastor, by the time you come back for her, Mororo will be a far
thought for her.. Still waiting for you to credit my account, though...”
“Done that this morning!” My father replied
“Probably it’s the network!” He replied
“Should be, you are far away from civilization!” My father joked...
“Dad, why are you doing this to me...God wants me to go to Mororo and you
cannot stop it!”

The Captain walked towards me...

“I will ask you this question a few times, If your answer remains the same,
then I might have a rethink! Do you really want to go to Mororo?” The captain
asked
“Yes!” I said with a strong voice and with that I got another hot slap across
my face.
“Do you still want to go to Mororo?” He asked again
This time around I didn’t give a reply because I didn’t want another slap
across my face...

“I guessed as much, Pastor, Silence they say is consent, your daughter has no
intentions on going back to Mororo, and you can take her back home!”
“I am going to Mororo!” I said affirmatively
“Captain, you see, you can’t easily make her change her mind!” My father
said disappointedly
“She will change her mind Pastor... That is what I am known for, helping
rebellious children have some sense” He said to my father.

“Silver! “ He called one of the soldiers

“Yes Captain!” Silver replied
55
“Take her to where she deserves to be...!”Captain said to Silver
“Daddy, why are you doing this, I made a vow to God to work for Him and I
told you, you didn’t oppose it, instead you told me to get closer to God, which
I did, but now you are trying to stop me... Daddy, if I don’t fulfill this vow,
the punishment will be on your head, go and read Numbers 30...” I said with
tears
The soldiers came towards me and handcuffed me. I watched my father
shaking hands with the captain...
Three days! I remembered the captain had told him I would change my mind
before my father would pick me up...
“Why don’t you lie that you won’t be going to Mororo anymore and once you
are out of here, you run away to Mororo!” An inward voice said to me...
I stopped in my tracks and turned, I looked at my father and the captain. I
was about to tell my father I won’t be going to Mororo again, but right there
a scripture dropped in my heart.... My months of reading the Scriptures
made scriptures drop in my heart anytime I was faced with a situation... The
scripture was...
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and
children, brothers and sisters--yes, even their own life--such a person cannot
be my disciple.”
“Are you ready to change your mind and follow your father?” Captain asked
on seeing that I turned back
“No! I have an assignment in Mororo and no matter how long you keep me
here, the moment I get out I will go there...”
My Father and Captain were shocked at my response...The Captain patted
my father on the shoulder...
“I have handled tougher ones, the person who recommended me, must have
told you I don’t fail...”

With that I watched my father get into his car and drove off...Tears dropped
from my eyes as I said silently to God

56
“God! Do I have to face all of these, because I want to serve you?” I groaned
silently
“First things First... this was not part of what I discussed with your father,
but your body looks like it needs some manly torturing... I heard you are a
widow, must have been a very long time... Silver take her to my room!”
“Yes Captain!”
“No, please don’t defile me!” I begged but he didn’t pay attention to my
pleas..
“Why has my father allowed the devil to use him against me!” I cried inwardly
as the fear of the fierce looking man forcefully sleeping with me was
overwhelming....

PART 18
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
I sat on the bare floor under the tent I was kept. My left hand had been cuffed
to one of the iron rod that held the tent in place.
I couldn’t wrap my head around the thought that my father brought me to
that terrible place.
“God What is happening?” I meditated for hours.
Much later, very late into the night, I was lying on the wrapper that had been
provided for me on the floor, when I suddenly started hearing approaching
footsteps...
“The Captain!” The Spirit of God told me...
I jumped up and sat up crossing my legs...
“I have been busy... I am here for what I said earlier!” He said
“Please don’t defile me...!”
Captain didn’t listen as he forced himself in to me....

*****
“Hey!, Hey! Wake up!” I heard someone whispering... I woke up from my
nap...
I looked around and I realized the rape incident was a dream.
“Thank God! It was a dream!” I said breathing out...
“What dream?” The man who had woken me up asked
“Never mind! “ I said
“I sneaked to bring you this food, you should eat fast!”

58
“Thank you! “ I looked at him unsure of why he was helping me.
“Will Captain carry out his threat of raping me?” I asked Him
“If you stay longer, I cannot assure you that Captain won’t carry out his
threat! My advice is you get out of here fast!”
“But that is impossible, I have been handcuffed!”
“Then tell him what he wants to hear!”
“Which is!”
“That you have reconsidered your intentions of going to Mororo!”
“I can’t do that because I am under a vow! I have promised God and I can’t
just go back and say I am no longer interested. God takes our vows seriously!”

“Hmm.. Well I hope you are alive to go back there..”

We both heard another approaching footstep...
“Captain!” The soldier said in fear, he quickly packed the food I was about to
eat and disappeared.
Fear gripped my heart as I was afraid my dream was about to become real.
The moment captain got into the tent, I laid down on the floor, worshiping
God and praising Him at the top of my voice....
“What is the meaning of this?” Captain said and without Mercy he turned me
facing up with the intention of rape. At that same instance, the young soldier
who had brought me food earlier came in and pushed him off me...
“Captain, stop this!” The young man said
Captain fell to the floor and you should have seen the unbelief in his eyes...
"Reme, what did you just do?" Captain asked
"I am sorry Captain, forgive me, I don't know what came over me..."
"Really? Well I will help you!" He said and called out for silver...
Silver rushed in...

59
"Yes Captain!"
"Silver, Reme pushed me because he wanted to defend this thing, and he said
he didn't know what came over him, help him check his brain if it is still
functioning well, if not relieve him of the pressure of carrying such a heavy
load on his shoulders...." Captain said
"Captain please I am sorry, please captain..." Reme pleaded as he was
dragged out. I also tried pleading but Captain shut me up with a slap...
"Silver, please don't cut off my head!" I heard Reme pleading. I couldn't see
him anymore but I sensed fear in his voice. All of a sudden, I couldn't hear
his voice anymore after a slashing sound...
" I think you are jinxed, your husband died because of you, I also heard your
recent boyfriend died because of you, now Reme has killed himself because
of you, well I am smarter, I won't sleep with you and die! But I give you the
next 3 hours to tell me you are not going to Mororo anymore so I know i can
get let your jinxed self out of here. Be ready to sign the papers."
With that Captain left, and I was in between shock, gratitude and pain that
Reme had to died...

I wept sore and started reconsidering my stand..

PART 19
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
The next two days were worse than the first day in terms of the slaps I got
from Captain. Whenever I told him I was still interested in going to Mororo,
he would give me a hot slap. I wasn’t given food to eat. By the third day, I
started screaming for God’s Help... I was at the brink of saying the wrong
words to God, but whenever I was at that point, different scriptures will rise
up within me, which made the scripture Psm 119:11 very real to me...
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee”
God’s Word I had eaten in the past three months was a defense in my Spirit.
On the third day, the lady who takes me to the makeshift rest room came to
the tent where I was lying on the floor...

“Hello...” She said but I did not have the strength to give a reply...
“Your father will be here soon, Captain has not received your father’s money
so he went to the bank in the city to confirm if your father has made the
transfer.” She said
I still maintained my silence...
“He told me I should take you to where you will take your bath in case you
have decided to go back on your stand.”

I refused to say anything..,

“Adenike or whatever your name is, you are only punishing yourself, be
smart about this, Keep this Mororo vision for a later time, maybe Five years
from now. Tell your father you are no more interested and Captain will
release you. Return home, stay with them for a year or so and then relocate
to another state, pretend like you want to start a new life. Let your parents
visit you in the new place and after another two years or so, you go to this
Mororo you are passionate about... This is the wisdom you need!”

61
“Ok...” I managed to say!
Her idea was a good one. It was a good compromise and I felt I could deceive
my parents for a while and later when I gain my independence, return to
Mororo.
“You will do what I just said?” She asked very excited and I nodded...
“Oh thank Goodness, at least you can have something to eat soon! My
Goodness! You are one tough girl though! She removed the handcuff from
the iron rod but did not remove it from my hand as usual. She helped me get
up and together we walked toward the makeshift toilet/bathroom.
“Let me get you water and soap” she said compassionately..
“Thanks, but can you take this hand cuff off, so I can wash my body well...” I
said to her...
“I am sorry, Captain did not give me the instruction to that, you just have to
bear the discomfort till your father comes around. Since you have agreed to
go back home, the discomfort you are feeling will soon be over.”
“Ok thank you! “ I said as I stood waiting for her to get me water...
On bringing the water, she realized the soap was in her tent!
She rushed off to her tent and I heard ...
“Run!” I turned around to see who spoke, but there was no one...
I heard the voice again saying with all urgency. I looked and saw a pathway
to my right. I didn’t know where the Strength came from, I raced off...
****
I know I was running through bushes but I didn’t know where I was
headed....It was getting late and I had not yet seen a main road.
“God lead me out of here please!” I screamed out loud with tears pouring out
of eyes. I was hungry and tired. The hand cuff on my hand was hurting me
terribly..

62
I decided to take a short rest by sitting on the floor. The moment I sat,
something heavy dropped on me. On impulse I had closed my eyes, so on
opening them I realized I was trapped in a big net.

“What?” I literally screamed... “Where was I and whose net was this?

I tried getting out of the net but all to no avail...
“Who is there?” I heard a voice say from the distance...
“Please help! My name is Adenike and I missed my way!” I said
The person shone the torch on me...
“The Peleta’s net!” The man said
“What?”
“You have been trapped by the Peleta’s net...”
“Yes sir! I don’t know the name of the net, but I am in it!” I said to the strange
man...
”If you stay in that net for the next 2 hours, you will be dead. The Peleta net
is a strangulating net, it will be keep shrinking till it strangulates you!” He
said
“Ok!” I said hoping he would come closer and help me out...”Are you not
going to help me?”
“I have to be sure of my safety first before trying to save you, that’s how it
should work!” He said as I saw him shining his torch around himself.
“The Peleta people do not come out to fight their invaders, they made these
nets as a way of defending themselves...It is a shrinking net soaked in
poison.” He said as he carefully walked towards me...
“There could be 1000 nets scattered around here, but to escape them, you
need to walk in circles” He said and that made me understand why he
walking in circles towards me. On getting close to me, I thought he would
help cut the net, but instead he stretched a short knife towards me.

64
“Once you cut through, walk in circles towards where I am ...” He said as he
walked back in circles forming the infinity sign till he got to a far distance...
I cut the net successfully and the moment the net fell off...I noticed another
one was about to drop on me, I jumped from the net and landed on a new
surface, and as swift as a deer, I walked in circles till I got to where the
stranger was...
“A very good one I must say....!” The stranger said
“Thank you! But I don’t how I did that! That must have been God!” I said
“Hmmm...!” He said
“So what are you doing here? And are a Peleta person! Besides, who are the
Peleta people... Never heard of them!” I said
“Come this way!” He said
I followed him towards the right and as we kept walking, I started hearing
drum sounds... A certain amount of illumination was coming from
underground...By the time we moved further, I realized we were on top of a
hill and a large expanse of land laid on the ground below. A strange looking
people in hundreds filled up the land!
“That would have been you tomorrow morning if I had not rescued you
tonight!” He said to me as he pointed to a roasted looking animal.

Like the stranger heard my thought, He said....

“It’s not an animal, but a very unwise human like you!”
“What?”
“His name was Robert Schwartz!”
“Robert Schwartz!” The name rang a bell, but I couldn’t tell from where I
heard the name...
“Yes, an unwise missionary!” With that he looked straight into my eyes with
a terrifying hurting look...

65
“The painful thing is that, he didn’t die alone, he wasted the lives of his wife
and children.” I saw another set of people roasting two children and a woman
and they ate their bodies like barbecue.

“Oh My God! I thought God was meant to protect His missionaries, why
this?” I said in pain. A pain I felt so dearly, because of what I had just faced
recently in the hands of Captain...
“God will never stop a stupid man from going to a mission field, but God will
empower and encourage a wise man on the mission field!”

“What differentiates a wise man or a foolish one on the mission field?”

“Get back to Captain and he will tell you more!”
“Captain?” I asked and on looking intently at the stranger, he fizzled away
like a feather....
I stood shocked on the same spot! I just saw An angel? I looked down and
the Peleta people were no longer there... The night had turned to day like a
passage of time happened right in front of me...
“Captain?” The Stranger was asking me to go back to Captain.
Everything was looking all complicated and I went blank

Adenike! Adenike! Wake up! I said go back to Captain!” I heard the
Stranger’s voice...I opened my eyes but I couldn’t see him anymore...
“Stand up and turn to the left!” I heard His voice say to me...
I wondered silently who the stranger was as I stood up and followed his
direction...
Hebrews 1 came expressly to my heart... “Ministering Angels!”
“Oh!” It dawned on me quickly...
“Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit
salvation?” Hebrews 1: 14
“Turn right and keep walking straight ahead!” I obeyed quietly and then the
voice clicked... it was the same voice that told me to Run!

Why did the voice tell me to run from Captain’s place in the first instance and
now, he is asking me to return to him...
I was ruminating over this, for the next few minutes. I was so deep in my
thoughts I didn’t know I was already at Captain’s camp.
“So quick!” I said to myself
“She’s back!” The lady from whom I escaped shouted....”Thank you Jesus!
Thank you Lord!” She said

I saw Captain give a sigh of relief....and gently he said...

“I told you she will be back... God told me she would be back!”
“Adenike! I am sorry, I am sorry for doing this to you! I thought this would
prepare you adequately for your trip to Mororo. I didn’t know he wasn’t
capable of protecting you while doing his job!” My father was saying...

67
“His Job?” I was lost especially hearing Captain and the Lady calling God and
Jesus!
“My name is Tunde Sword, a one-time missionary who lost his wife and three
daughters to mission work to the Peleta people. After I lost my family, I went
back to God and through that I found healing and wisdom. After 5 years of
training under God, I went back to Peleta and won the town for God! After
that victory, the Lord gave me this new assignment...Training the
missionaries to be...!” Captain said and I looked from him to my father and
back to him...
“Are you trying to tell me, all you have been doing to me for the past few days
has been me under training?” I asked hoping I was wrong...
“Yes!”
“I know how strong willed you are and I knew if I told you to attend a
missionary training in a bush, you wouldn’t agree!” My father said
“That was why I told him you need to pass the first stage of convincing me
that you are sold out for the mission work!” Captain said...
“Other students do not go through this phase, because they come into the
academy willingly and know what they are getting into, but your case was
different!”

“So did I pass the test?” I asked

“Unfortunately No!, you bailed at the last minute. Grace told me you
accepted her advice of deceiving us...”
“But that was after 3 days...!” I said
“It doesn’t matter how long you have stood for the Lord on the mission field,
one minute of going back on your stand can end you in the grave... The
mission field is not for the faint at heart... Our anchor scripture which is the
first lecture you ought to receive here is Luke 9:62 where Jesus said, "No one
who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom
of God. So I am sorry to say this Madam Adenike, for facing three days of
mild persecution and backing out at the last minute, I will advise you forget
this journey to Mororo, because you will face worse persecution...

68
“What persecution could be harder than losing my husband and my fiancé?”
“Which could have been avoided if you went about things the right way! I lost
my family because I was stupidly headstrong and unprepared like you!”
Captain retorted...
“Mr. Tunde, Please that is why I brought her here for you to prepare her for
the mission field!” My father said, I could see the love and fear in his eyes.
He didn’t want to lose me...

“She is not ready!” Captain who I just realized was Tunde sword said.
“She is!” My father said
“Is she?” Tunde sword replied looking straight at me...
“I am!” I said finally
“Are you? Are you ready to stay in this Bush for 6 months without seeing any
member of your family? Are you ready to eat only once a day? Are you ready
to pray for 7 hours every day? Are you ready to....?”

PART 22
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“I am ready!” I said
If I knew what those words meant for Tunde Sword, I won’t have said “Yes”
in a hurry. Maybe I would have returned home first, recovered from the pain
of the past few days before starting the real missionary training...
I was given a new tent that had a bit of comfort in it. A bed was there, a
cupboard for my clothes and books that had been stacked in there, a solar
powered Fan. I noticed everything there was solar powered.
Reme! Yes Reme was not dead, it was all part of the plan! When I saw him, I
was so joyful...
“I am not dead!” He said smiling
“Obviously!” I replied
“I am Remilekun Ayoade!” He stretched his hands towards me and his smile
was peaceful. I was happy he really did not die on my account!
“And I am Adenike Badmus!” I said returning his smile... “So how long have
you been here?”
“Three awesome months!” He said
“Awesome... can anything be awesome about this place?” I said raising my
left eyebrow

“Sure, just give yourself 3 weeks and you will be glad you stayed!”
“Let’s hope so, I am glad you didn’t die!” I said and with that I gave him a
hug...
“Hmmm....” Mr. Tunde Sword (Captain) cleared his throat from behind us...
“Remilekun, you should have told her that is not allowed here!” Tunde said...

70
“We are not doing anything!” I said in defense
“Rule 5. No falling in love, no romance, and no hugging or any other sexual
act is permitted on the camp between opposite sex!” Tunde sword said

“Yes Sir!” I said as Remilekun smiled. I had just been given a second chance
and I wasn’t ready
“I am sorry, Brother Tunde!” Remilekun said...
****************
“Most Missionaries go into their mission fields foolishly carrying the banner
of the Lord so high from the gate of the village. They make their intentions
so visible that the evil powers in the village already see them as a threat!”
Tunde Sword said in the first lecture...
“Which has been the mistake of most African missionaries!” He continued
“Missionaries will always be a threat to the evil powers of a village!” I said as
I was a student who liked to question my teacher’s every statement...
“Yes, you are right but in every town, city, or village, there are powers that
be, there are human agents in charge of the place, you don’t enter a place
with boldness to rid them of that power”

At this point, I kept quiet because he was beginning to make sense!

“There are Lions in the Land, which if you go headstrong against, you will be
devoured by that lion, but if you stay above the ground probably in a tree and
throw down a net or let down an iron cage over the Lion, you would have
captured the Lion. This reminds me of the Peleta people...!” He was saying...
“Peleta people? The stranger I met in the bush showed me the Peleta people
yesterday...!” I said
“Yesterday? Peleta people? Where?” Captain said very confused
“In the bush...”
“Peleta is not in our country, it is far away in one of the eastern nations, which
will take you a month of travelling by foot and you were only gone for about
25 minutes yesterday” Captain said

71
“25 minutes!” I asked not believing what I was listening to...
“Yes!”
I narrated all that I experienced with the Stranger and I was most shocked to
realize I was only gone for 25 minutes.
“That must have been the Angel of God... Adenike, when I was going to Peleta
as a young missionary, I had sent a letter informing the king we were coming
to run the land through fire! That was our great undoing. The Peleta people
had put in place their special net for capturing invaders. I was not wise
enough, I went with my kids and wife, we were captured and right before me,
my family was burnt to ashes...”
“Jesus!” I exclaimed
“They let me go saying I should go tell others that Peleta was not a land for
my God!”
“Hmmm, so are you saying it is wrong to go into a mission field with the full
intention of evangelizing as an obvious front! I asked
“Exactly!”
“So how do you reach out to them?”
“That is your first assignment? Adenike, how do you think you should have
reached out to the Mororo people and won them over to God without
carrying your Bible and proclaiming Jesus as Lord from the gate of the
Land?” Tunde Sword asked me.
In all my years of being called a super smart girl, I have never experienced a
blank period where I became lost of ideas or inspiration...
“Sir, are you saying we could lie about our intentions as missionaries?” I
asked very confused

“Did I say that?” He asked sheepishly

72
“ Sir, you said we should not tell them the truth about our intentions, but we
need to tell them something, if we don’t say the truth, then we will have to
say the lie, which I think is a form of unrighteousness and I don’t think the
seed of unrighteousness can produce righteousness in the land of a
Mororo!” I said not caring what my missionary teacher believed....
Everywhere went silent and Tunde Sword smiled and shook his head....
“I never said you should lie but you will have to not tell the main truth, but
another kind of truth!” Tunde Sword said and honestly I was confused...

“What is this man saying?” I questioned within

PART 23
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
The task that had been given to me was knocking my brain out. I kept
wondering what the other truth I had to present to Mororo instead of the real
truth of Evangelism was...
Mr. Tunde Sword said I couldn’t attend another lecture unless I had resolved
that. I was blank. I kept roaming around the premises....
“I hope you have asked the Holy Spirit?” Remilekun said to me during lunch
which was the only meal we had every day.
“Hmm...!” It didn’t occur to me to ask Him. I believed it was an assignment
I needed to task my brain on...
“Adenike, on this missionary journey, you need the Holy Spirit on your side.
It will make life easier for you! The Holy Spirit is the best friend a missionary
can have!” Remilekun said to me
The Holy Spirit!
Throughout that day, all that was on my lips was “Holy Spirit, What is the
other truth I need to present to Mororo people?.
I got nothing until much later at night when I sat down to study the Word...
I heard in my Spirit “When Samuel was instructed to anoint David....”
I didn’t know what that meant, so I searched my Bible to find out where
exactly that portion of scripture was....
1 Samuel 16! I found it...
“1. The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have
rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way;
I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be
king.”
2 But Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.”

74
The Lord said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to
the Lord.’
3 Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what to do. You are to
anoint for me the one I indicate.”
“Stop!” I heard the Holy Spirit say to me...
“Stop?” I wondered why....
I sat down quietly wondering the lesson God wanted me to pick from these
short 3 verses....
“When God sent Samuel on the assignment to anoint David, Samuel was
wise enough to know that there was a ruling King already in place which
was Saul. He knew he couldn’t enter the town where there was a ruling king
on the throne and in the same town anoint a new one! He knew his head
will go for it, though he was a servant of God!” I heard a voice saying to me
“Samuel expressed his fear to God in verse two saying “How can I go? If
Saul hears about it, he will kill me.” The voice continued “God knew Samuel
could be killed truly, so he gave him a way out!”
I was beginning to understand where the Holy Spirit was driving towards...
I was very much like Samuel, but just like Saul, there were ruling powers like
the priestess of Mororo and the Adegbile sisters ruling Mororo.

“So, Just like Tunde said to you, you need to divert the attention of the ruling
power from your main assignment. God told Samuel to divert the attention
of Saul to another assignment he was coming to do in the land...God told
Samuel to Take a heifer with him and say, He had come to sacrifice to the
Lord. As a disguise, while carrying out the secondary assignment, God told
him to invite Jesse; David ‘s father to the sacrifice, which invariably will
create the avenue for Samuel to see his son David and anoint him...”

I jumped from my bed and I started screaming out loud from my room...
I couldn’t contain my respect for God! God is too wise and too deep...God is
a master strategist....
My screaming had brought everyone to my room...

75
“I got it, I just got what you were trying to let me know! The Holy Spirit just
made me understand it....I don’t have to go to Mororo letting them know that
I came to preach the gospel, rather I go there under a guise and in the process
still achieve my main reason for going there just like Samuel did when he
wanted to anoint David as King!... Unlike me, Samuel was not stupid to
anoint another King publicly while one was on the throne, but with God’s
instruction, he went under the guise of offering a sacrifice to God and inviting
Jesse’s family to the sacrifice. Anointing someone during a sacrifice won’t
have been out of place, people would term it as just a normal spiritual
exercise, but if Samuel had just entered the land straight and anointed David,
people would have questioned what was special about David. Saul would
have heard about it and probably called Samuel asking questions, and since
Samuel would not be able to tell a lie, he would have said the truth. Saul
would have gotten enraged and probably killed Samuel. Mr. Tunde Sword,
this is where we missionaries miss it, we go straight into the land trying to
unseat the ruling dark power and in the process, we get killed, meanwhile we
could have been tactical about it, presenting a guise that will hide our real
intention and save our head.” I said excitedly like a very smart student. I
expected Tunde Sword to give me a round of applause but he smiled and
said....
“So what will be your guise?” Tunde Sword asked out of the blues...
Like a deflated balloon, I went clueless again... I had solved the Part A of the
assignment, I was in the Part B already...
“Well... I don’t know ....” I was saying when Tunde Sword cut in....
“Come join the class!!!”

“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
That night was the highly expository for me.

“Adenike, you really surprised me and I am really pleased. It is highly

commendable that what usually takes people about one week to achieve, took
you less than 24 hours to get a hang of it. I am really impressed and that’s
why you have moved into your next level of this training within a short period
of time!” Tunde Sword said when we settled back into the class.

“Like I asked you Adenike earlier, what is going to be your guise?” He asked
as we sat on the carpet in the makeshift classroom under the tent.

“I really don’t know Sir, I guess I will have to ask the Holy Spirit about it!” I
said casting a thank You glance at Remilekun who returned the knowing
smile....

“Great! Then let me help you with a tip.” Tunde Sword said and immediately
I paid rapt attention.

“Most missionaries of old went to the mission field under different guises.
Some came under the guise of helping the villagers, some came as doctors,
some as teachers. In this present age, Wise Missionaries go into foreign
Nations presenting aids, grants, Free Medical treatment, and scholarships as
their guises before preaching Christ to the people. They present the gospel of
love and help to the people first and when the people get comfortable with
them, then they present the man behind the hand of love they have shown
them.” Tunde Sword said to me

“Adenike, tell me what would be the hand of love that you will stretch to the
people of Mororo, there has to be something that will take you there that will
make the people open their doors to you.” Mr. Tunde Sword said

“I really can’t say but like I said earlier, I will pray about it because I don’t
think education will work; the Mororo people are quite educated, they are
just backward in their thinking, and besides the cloud of wickedness in that
land is not permitting the rain of blessing to drop on the land. I can’t also

78
consider free medical treatment as I’m not a doctor or neither do I have a
doctor who will be willing to go to Mororo village. Neither do I have money
to give the Mororo people, so Mr. Tunde I am very blank but I guess I’ll just
sleep over it...”I said as I didn’t know what next to do.

I stood up to return to my room, I had learnt the way of the training camp,
the moment you can’t answer a question, you had to leave the class and think
through…

Remi came to my tent at night, asking me to step out for some fresh air.

“So, any luck? Remi asked me and I shook my head in the negative

“As your good friend, let me help you out” Remi Said and for the split of a
second, something tucked at my heart…

“Aww that is so nice of you” I said and there was a brief moment of silence.

“Adenike, you need to pray the prayer of Enquiry asking God what the
Mororo people really need, that way you’ll be able to present to them what
they really need”

I kept ruminating over it for about three days, I kept asking the Holy Spirit
as to What the Mororo people needed. Fast forward 5 days later, I walked up
to Remi and I told him

“ Remi, I really don’t know what to do I’ve been trying to wrack my brain as
to what Mororo people need and the only thing I know they really need is
actually Jesus and here we are , we can’t take Jesus to them directly so I am
really out of ideas …..´I said very confused.”

“Adenike, I really should not be giving you expos, there is something about
you that reminds me of my younger sister” Remi said laughing and I gave
him my puppy eye look I usually gave to my elder brothers whenever I
wanted something from them…

“I know that look” Remi said laughing

“OK, just a hint, in getting to know what the people need, you will have to
do a background research as to who these people are, their past, their
history, and what makes them tick.” Remi said

79
“Remi, how do you expect me to do a research in this bush where there’s no
Internet facility?” I asked

Remi smiled and said “I am not speaking about a physical research, before
going into a mission field, Mr. Tunde Sword, says you have to do your
Spiritual research.”

“Really?” I didn’t know Missionary work demands research…

“Remi, where is your mission field? And what Spiritual research did you
carry out on the people? “I asked wanting to learn by example

“My mission field is in the far north, the Kulewa village. My Pastor received
the mandate from God to establish a branch there for Him, and I
volunteered for the work, but my Pastor who is a very thorough person said
I couldn’t go there without adequate training and spirituality. When I got to
this point of enquiry you are presently at, the Lord revealed to me what my
guise could be…

“Right from the gate of Kulewa village, you will be asked if you are a Christian
and have come to evangelize, if your answer is positive, you will be
immediately turned back.”

“So what is your guise, I mean what are you planning to use as your cover?”
I asked Remi

“After praying the Prayer of Enquiry, I had a revelation of the Kulewa village,
I noticed the land was a dry land where it was hard to plant food for people
to eat. On waking up, I narrated the revelation to Mr. Tunde who went to the
city to do a physical research, for a fact he actually discovered, the Kulewa
people had agricultural problem: their ground was hard and therefore could
not arm on it. They bought food from neighboring villages…”

“Ok?” I asked

“Fortunately for me, my elder brother studied agricultural science, and just
last week, Tunde Sword gave me a one week Pass to meet with him. I told my
brother about my vision to help the Kulewa people with Agriculture and the
dry and hard soil restrain. With his expertise, experience and Research, we
have found a solution to their agricultural issue.”

“Which is?” I asked

“Rooftop farming? Remi answered

“Really? What is that?

“Rooftop farming is the type of agricultural farming done on the roof of the
house, so since the Kulewa ground is very hard, we will introduced rooftop
farming to them, help them kick start it and after helping them within a year,
having gained their love and trust, I will introduce Christ to them…” Remi
said excitedly

81
“Wow! This is a great plan. It will definitely work out well…But since you
have your game plan, what are you still doing here?”

“Tunde Sword has not released me, I guess there are still quite a lot I need to
learn” He replied

“Are the Peleta people saved now?” I asked wanting to know more about
Tunde Sword.

“Yes, Tunde Sword said he returned to Peleta much later with his guise. The
Peleta people did not recognize him as previously he had only spent a day,
the same day his family was burnt to Ashes.

He said God had revealed to him, that a strong curse was upon the women of
Peleta, which he later confirmed, they mostly found it hard to conceive, and
when they get pregnant, they mostly died after delivery. Tunde Sword said
he approached a lot of Health foundations, who agreed to go with Him, and
help the women as regards conception, medically, it was discovered that
most of the women had fibroid, and high blood pressure during pregnancy…
All these did the health foundations help the Peleta people with, it was
through this, Tunde Sword became friends with the King of Peleta.

Gradually, Tunde Sword Preached Christ to him and revealed His identity as
the missionary that got his wife and children killed some years back. This
was what got the King and the People of Peleta emotional: the fact that he
still showed them love despite being the people that killed his family. The
Peleta people decide to serve the God of Tunde Sword. Tunde Sword said
they even gave him 5 women for free as a compensation for his wife and
children” Remi said laughing…

“Wow, it really takes genuine love for God to go back to a mission field where
you have been hurt.”

“Love for souls, Love of God… Another topic Tunde Sword will take you
through” Remi said smiling

“Hmmm…. Remilekun and Adenike, it is late, you should both retire to your
tents…” We heard Tunde Sword say from a distance….

As I looked at him Pitifully, I heard in my Spirit…

PART 26
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
I laid on my bed that night praying in my heart that the Lord would reveal
to me, the need of Mororo.
********************
I saw an angry looking man going towards a big river. He was dressed like
an ancient warrior. He was tall and very huge…he was sweating profusely.
On getting to the bank of the water, he started shouting loud and clear…
“River goddess, why is it that you have refused to assist me in my wars?
Ever since I became the Balogun (Chief Warrior) of this village, I have not
won any battle.” He said
A mermaid figure came out of the water and spoke to him…
“I can’t show my full support for you since, you have refused to enter a
covenant with me…
“What you are asking for in other to bind this covenant is beyond me, you
are asking that I dedicate my entire lineage to the worship of you, but I am
afraid of what the future holds. What If some of them decide to worship
other gods or the women in my generation get married to men who worship
other gods, won’t you get angry and destroy them? Can’t you enter the
covenant with me alone?”
The river goddess got angry and returned back into the river…
“Goddess, please come back…”the man said… but the goddess didn’t pay
attention
******************
The warrior was seated with a friend over a bowl of palm wine. The friend
was drinking the palm wine but it was written all over the warrior that he
was unhappy…
84
“My friend, enjoy your life and stop thinking about the unborn generation,
they will sort themselves out just the way you are sorting yourself out. Enter
the agreement with the river goddess and be the most powerful man on
earth. Do you know what it means for the river goddess to back you up? “
The warrior looked at his friend, reasoning out what he was saying…
*******************
“I have accepted your offer!” the warrior said at the bank of the river. The
river goddess came out of the river very happy.
“Morire, you will be the most powerful man in this area, and when men and
women hear your voice or your name, they will tremble in fear. I change
your name to “Morooro” {I am Wicked}. You will win all the battles you
ever go to… you shall be wicked, and not show Mercy. The water from this
river will serve as what binds us together, as long as your people drink the
water from this river, they will forever be dedicated to me, and no people
will be able to defeat them. I will protect your people and a day will come
that this village will be named after you, I will give you immeasurable
power, wealth and your fear will be in the hearts of people. You shall be my
beloved and I will be your beloved, so shall it be between our offsprings…”
The goddess said as she stretched her scepter to him transferring a dark
flame into him…
She swam towards him and stood on her mermaid tail, she kissed the
warrior. Right there by the bank of the river, she copulated with the
warrior.
****************
I woke up very frightened from that dream… The name Mororo Village
must have been named after the wicked warrior named Morooro. He had
entered a covenant with the river goddess and that explains why the people
of Mororo were wicked and under the full influence of evil.

How was I going to save the innocent lineage of the warrior, including
Seun’s wife, the Priestess of Mororo? They were only victims of a wicked
forefather…

“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“Congratulations! Adenike the lord has shown you the problem and the
solution of Mororo. The water they drink daily, washing their clothes,
bathing is their undoing.
“What do you suggest I do then? I can’t stop them from drinking water from
their only water source!” I said
“You May be right! Why don’t you take some time to think through it and
pray, you might be surprised what God would impress upon your heart...?”
Tunde Sword Said...
For days I prayed and ruminated over it and I couldn’t come up with a
solution. Remi was becoming neck deep in his Rooftop farming strategy. He
was leaving the camp more frequently. I was not very friendly with the other
two ladies on the camp, we were just acquaintances.
I walked up to Tunde Sword after few weeks frustrated because I didn’t know
what to do with the information I had...
“Can’t we organize a deliverance session for that river and cast out the
goddess from the river!”
Tunde Sword laughed!!!
“Adenike, we are trying to be discreet and you want us to go organize a
deliverance session for the river!!! Think about something else!”
“Something else! “ Like the sudden appearance of light, the idea dropped...
“Clean Water, Distilled water, Bottle water!” I heard in my Spirit...
“I think I have it Mr. Tunde!” I said very excited
“While I was in Mororo, one of the problem I had was the fact that the water
was not clean. While coming to Mororo the church had given us enough
bottle water to last us a Month. So I am thinking we can go in as a non-profit

86
organization that helps communities to get clean water so as to reduce the
death toll in the villages.”
Tunde Sword gave me a round of applause...
“That way you divert their attention from the river water. Then when they
are no longer giving that water much attention we can do that deliverance
you suggested!”
“But how can I get the money to buy the large number of bottle water to cater
for the whole of Mororo for minimum of 6 months...?”
“We have the Strategy, let’s tender it before God, if He approves it, He will
make a way!”

“Ok, thank you so much!” I said as I rushed to give him a hug. I was used to
hugging men, as the only girl child, I grew up hugging my brothers and I
didn’t know how to relate with ladies.
Tunde Sword froze in my arms. Like my touch sent a wave through his
spine...
“I am sorry! Forgive me Mr. Tunde, I grew up among boys, so I don’t have an
issue with hugging men!” I said in defense...
It took him a while before he could answer, as he was staring at me like he
just saw a ghost!

“It’s okay!” Was all he said as he walked to his tent quietly? I didn’t see him
for the rest of the day.
The next day was quiet strange, he deliberately avoided me!
The day after, I walked up to his tent very early. I wanted to know what I had
done wrong other than hugging him, but as I stepped close to his tent, I heard
him speaking to someone. I wanted to turn away but instead he called me
back!

“Adenike! “
“I am sorry, I can come back!”
“Please come in!”

87
I reluctantly walked in but was surprised to find the room empty. Mr. Tunde
had a picture frame in his hand...
“You remind me of her!” He said
“Who?” I asked
Mr. Tunde Sword broke into tears, that was the first time I would see him
that soft...
“For years I have been happy that I would live as an eunuch for the rest of
my life serving God, I have stopped having sexual attraction to the opposite
Sex for years, but you have been reminding me of my late wife. You behave
alike, very audacious like you and to make matters worse, when you gave me
a hug, I felt good and had a sexual urge after so many years, which I am not
comfortable with...!” Mr. Tunde Sword said and I couldn’t find the right
words...
“I am sorry sir, I will try to give you some space sir and possibly if you can
speed up my training, I will be gone before you know it so you don’t have to
break your celibacy vow to God!” I said with a bit of bitterness in my heart.
I felt terrible that he was seeing me as a seductress! A mere hug and he was
beginning to tell me I wanted him to break his celibacy vow!
“He didn’t say that!” I heard a voice in my Spirit reply me... I walked out
angrily. He tried to stop me but I was very cold.
“I have had enough training, I better leave this place...”

“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“Your training is not over!” Tunde Sword was saying to me as he stood at the
entrance of my tent. He had come to my tent the moment I was stepping out.
I had packed the few things I brought...
“The Holy Spirit told me you were running off again!” Tunde Sword says..,
“I am not running off, I am going to look for sponsors for the Mororo water
project...”
“You are not through with your training, I know you have your physical
strategy already, but you are yet to have your spiritual strategy... Though you
are going under a guise, the powers who do not want development in that
community will also come after you!”
“So what am I to learn as regards that?” I asked
“You need to fill up your spiritual tank, you need to be a mobile fire carrier,
and that comes from fasting and intense prayer...”
“Ok?” I said wanting him to hit the nail on the head...
“You ought to have a 21 days fasting and prayer program with vigil to put you
in charge. You need to soak yourself in prayers, that way you pray
concerning everything about you, about Mororo ahead of your going there..
Before Jesus started His ministry he went on 40 days fasting and prayer
program for Spiritual stamina and for exploits... You need to do that too, you
need power...”
***************
I listened to Tunde Sword, for a month I soaked myself in prayers, especially
vigils. It became a part of me and I had deep revelations about Mororo... I
avoided Tunde Sword on a personal level, everything between us was official.

89
Reme and the others I met in the camp graduated and I was left with Tunde
sword and one of his workers in the bush...
By the end of my Fifth month, I was not the same Adenike that came into the
camp. Just like Reme said when I came in, my experience became awesome.
I started enjoying God in all ways, I was satisfied staying in God’s presence
for hours reading the Scriptures.
On one of my personal search, I found a liberating scripture for the people of
Mororo... I found it in EZEKIEL 18....

God gave me my message for Mororo....

“1. The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “What do you[a] mean by repeating
this proverb concerning the land of Israel, ‘The fathers have eaten sour
grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge’?
3 As I live, declares the Lord God, this proverb shall no more be used by you
in Israel.
4 Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the
son is mine: the soul who sins shall die.....
“Hmmm...!” I instantly knew God was trying to point my attention to the
forefather of the Mororo people. He was trying to let me know that the
Mororo people should not be suffering the consequences of the sin of their
forefathers!

“GHOST RUN!”

“I will go with you!” I heard Tunde sword saying to me...

“As?” I asked him

“Your business partner/ investor/ philanthropist!” He said

I laughed so loud...

“Sir, do you have the money to buy six months free water supply for the
people of Mororo!”

“I don’t have the money personally but I know people who can sponsor it!”
He said

“Do you permit me to follow you?” He asked and I became indecisive.

“Well, you don’t have a choice, I can’t leave you to go there on your own!” He
said smiling...

“I like it when you smile!” I said and before I could say Jesus is Lord, I hugged
him to comfort him...

“Don’t worry, you will heal, I still miss my husband but I encourage myself
to give this work my best because that will be the consolation my husband
will have if he is looking from above! “ I sincerely meant no harm, but instant
remembrance hit me... I quickly pulled away from him...

“I am really sorry sir!”

“It’s Okay Adenike!” He said smiling “Thank you!

****************

I returned home after my 6 months training. My parents could testify I had

changed...I wasn’t in a rush to go to Mororo, I started scouting for sponsors.

91
We had two options; one to either create a borehole to serve everyone... or
we get sponsors who can sponsor bringing in water for the people.

My brothers and most of the members of my church contributed towards it.

Pastor friends also promised to do something. Then the D day came, the day
of appearing in Mororo.

Tunde Sword had become my good friend. We had created a Water

Company. We named it “Ghost Run”. People questioned why we would name
a water business Ghost Run!

We had two meanings of Ghost Run and we presented the one that was
applicable...

To the plain minded people, we tell them that “Dirty water causes Death and
therefore our water which is purified makes the Ghost spirit (Death) Run
away...

This was our popular meaning for Ghost Run, but between Tunde Sword and
I ,we knew GHOST RUN was an abbreviation of a prayer...

“HOLY GHOST RUN THROUGH THE VEINS OF ANYONE WHO DRINKS

THIS WATER”...

Tunde Sword went to Mororo town without me . He and some workers we

employed went straight to the palace. As they got into Mororo, that thick
darkness was so strong. I was advised to stay back so I won’t be recognized...
I was comfortable with that and I took it upon myself to intercede for the
group that went...

Tunde Sword took over the conversation telling the King that he and the team
members were Health conscious people who wanted to get rid of the death
toll associated with unclean water. The king was excited at the news. He said
it was the desire of the village to have a clean water system. He tasted one of
the bottle water brought and he was refreshed...

Tunde Sword told him, as part of our philanthropic work we will be bringing
in clean water twice every month... He told them, a woman was the brain
behind the idea and due to her busy schedule she could not come to the
village...

92
For six months straight up, we would pray on the “‘Ghost Run“ water for
three days declaring that the Holy Ghost Run through the land, before taking
it to them...

Gradually, Tunde Sword started making friends. I had told him about Seun.
He told me it was Seun that walked up to him when they were filling up the
reservoirs on one the days they had brought the water to Mororo....

“Thank you for this initiative... But I must say, this Ghost Run water is really
sending away the Spirit of death from Mororo. There is a change in the
atmosphere, there is a change in people’s character, and people are more
relaxed... Is there something special about the water?” Seun asked

“The Water is a prayer water, your friend Adenike whose husband died has
been the one sending the water!” Tunde Sword had told him...

Seun had broken down in tears, Tunde Sword said Seun had told him, he
knew something was special about the water. Since the day he had been
drinking the Ghost Run water, the bitterness he felt towards his wife was
dissolving. He felt the urge to pray for her instead. He was beginning to see
her as a victim...

Seun also told Tunde Sword that a lot of people had been testifying about the
Ghost Run water! A woman who was always bleeding said two months into
drinking the water, her bleeding stopped...

A man who was always having terrible migraine, experienced healing after
taking the Ghost Run water...

Seun told Tunde Sword the “Miracle water” as the villagers had been calling
it had done a lot in the village...

“I need everyone to know who the brain behind this is...” Seun said and
before Tunde Sword could stop him, Seun had run off like the way the
Samaritan woman went to announce Jesus!.

93
Half of the villagers came to the reservoir in less than 30 minutes. Seun had
spread the good news and they wanted to come hear the good news from the
horse’s mouth. Tunde Sword Affirmed All they had heard from Seun...

“Yes she is the one! She knew you people needed healing and since you didn’t
accept her, she prayed on this water for you!” Tunde Sword said...

“I don’t believe this water has anything to the healings happening in Mororo,
it is just a coincidence!” One of the Adegbile sisters said.....

PART 30
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“Hey! Keep quiet, how come all these healings did not take place before
Ghost Run water came into Mororo. Since this water came into this village,
we hardly hear the cries of those witchcraft birds... Segun’s mother was
telling me yesterday that ever since the water came into Mororo, her second
son Adeolu has not been falling ill, Have you forgotten that it was the first
cup of Ghost Run water that Bisi drank that made the 12 years pregnancy she
had been carrying to be delivered.” A furious woman said to one of the
Adegbile twin...
Bunmi, The priestess of Mororo showed up in their midst...Everyone moved
away from the reservoir in fear...
Tunde Sword said the moment he saw her, he started speaking in tongues...
“I was told you have been giving us Adenike’s water, is that true?” The
priestess asked
“Yes ma!” Tunde answered boldly
“Then I will not release you until I see her! Guards seize him!” Tunde Sword
was taken from the reservoir. The men who came with Tunde ran off into the
vehicle and sped off. The water tankers also stopped giving water and left
Mororo.
The instant, the workers reached out to me on phone that Tunde Sword had
been captured in Mororo, I almost had a heart attack. I couldn’t afford to lose
another man over Mororo...
Instead of running off to Mororo as I would have done normally, I did what
Tunde would have advised me to do. I settled down before God in prayer
asking God for direction...
“Only Fools doubt proofs, Go and show them my wonders. When Jesus
appeared in the city, John the Baptist wanted to be sure if he was truly the
messiah. John sent his disciples to ask Jesus if he was the Messiah, when the
disciples questioned Jesus, he didn’t utter any statement rather he kept on
performing his signs, wonders and Miracles. When the disciples saw the
95
Miracles, they turned back. Invariably, the works of Jesus spoke for him...
Go to Mororo and let my wonders speak for you...”
Those words gave me strength to proceed, I called my parents, brothers and
some prayer warrior friends. I asked them to join me in prayers. I even called
Reme far away in the north. These were some things I had learnt from
Tunde; the power of collective prayers.
I spoke in tongues almost all throughout the journey to Mororo... I kept
declaring that I become a fire too hot for the witches and evil powers of
Mororo to touch.
I got to Mororo early the next morning and as I got into the gate , the
Adegbile Sisters double-crossed me at the village gate...
“You! You almost pulled a smart one on us, we thought we had gotten rid of
you only for you to crawl in like a snake that you are...”
“ I am not a snake, I am the child of the Living God!, I am the carrier of God’s
power and God’s Fire, anywhere I go, the presence of God goes ahead of me
and comes behind me...” I declared boldly
“Wait ooo? What do you stand to gain in this town, you are not a child of the
soil so what do you want?”
“I am a child of the soil, because my father is the owner of heaven and earth.
The earth is of the Lord and the fullness thereof, the World and all they that
dwell therein. Mororo is part of the earth that belongs to my father, and it is
therefore my business to care about Mororo, the people of Mororo are part
of God’s creation and I am here as God’s daughter to lead them back to their
God....”
By this time the villagers had started coming out one after the other...
“Over our dead bodies will you enter Mororo...!”
“You have said it, before God whom I stand, I will enter Mororo today, not I
but Christ that lives in me... God is a Spirit and those that worship Him must
worship Him in truth and in Spirit.... I worship God and I am a Spirit and
you cannot get hold of a Spirit. I am unstoppable.... Adegbile Sisters you have
chosen to make yourselves a human Gate standing before me from entering
Mororo therefore I declare this against you... Lift up your heads, you gates;

96
lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.Who is
he, this King of glory? The LORD Almighty-- he is the King of glory.
Therefore, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth I step into Mororo...” I
said these words without knowing the repercussion....

“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
After declaring the Word, I pushed myself against the Adegbile sisters and I
was shocked to find that I passed through them. They became transparent
bodies...,
The screams that followed from the villagers were loud...
“What just happened?” One of the twins said
The Priestess of Mororo also walked towards the entrance, she must have
heard the news...
The enraged twins rushed towards me but as they tried to get hold of me,
their hands passed through my body...
The villagers including the priestess were surprised. The Adegbile sisters
began to chant different incantations against me...

“For there is no enchantment against Adenike, no divination against

Adenike; now it shall be said of Adenike Badmus, ‘What has God wrought!
Adegbile Sisters, Your enchantment against me can’t work, you killed two
men that were dare to me, but I still choose to forgive you.
My advice is you stop this child’s play. Witchcraft is Child’s play, the real
power source is from God. It is only because we fail to draw closer to God and
draw power from Him that it seems like Christians are powerless... I am not
powerless, so stop the child’s play...”

The Adegbile sisters thought I was joking as they made one more attempt to
attack me. This time around I showed no Mercy...

“Angel of the Living God that shows no Mercy deal with this enemies of God
in Jesus name!” I said and to the amazement of everyone present, invisible
98
hands took the Adegbile sisters and began to bang them on the floor till their
brains gushed out...
And there was silence in the land! The people of Mororo knew there was a
God greater than the witches of the Land...

PART 32
“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
I stood before the people beside the reservoir.....The Priestess after seeing
what God could do ordered Tunde to be released... The king was present...
“Ezekiel 18: 1- the end, I read ....
1The LORD spoke to me 2and said, “What is this proverb people keep
repeating in the land of Israel?
‘The parents ate the sour grapes,
But the children got the sour taste.’
3“As surely as I am the living God,” says the Sovereign LORD, “you will not
repeat this proverb in Israel any more. 4The life of every person belongs to
me, the life of the parent as well as that of the child. The person who sins is
the one who will die.
5“Suppose there is a truly good man, righteous and honest. 6He doesn't
worship the idols of the Israelites or eat the sacrifices offered at forbidden
shrines. He doesn't seduce another man's wife or have intercourse with a
woman during her period. 7He doesn't cheat or rob anyone. He returns what
a borrower gives him as security; he feeds the hungry and gives clothing to
the naked. 8He doesn't lend money for profit. He refuses to do evil and gives
an honest decision in any dispute. 9Such a man obeys my commands and
carefully keeps my laws. He is righteous, and he will live,” says the
Sovereign LORD.
10“Then suppose this man has a son who robs and kills, who does any of
these things 11that the father never did. He eats sacrifices offered at
forbidden shrines and seduces other men's wives. 12He cheats the poor, he
robs, he keeps what a borrower gives him as security. He goes to pagan
shrines, worships disgusting idols, 13and lends money for profit. Will he
live? No, he will not. He has done all these disgusting things, and so he will
die. He will be to blame for his own death.
14“Now suppose this second man has a son. He sees all the sins his father
practised, but does not follow his example. 15He doesn't worship the idols of

100
the Israelites or eat the sacrifices offered at forbidden shrines. He doesn't
seduce another man's wife 16or oppress anyone or rob anyone. He returns
what a borrower gives him as security. He feeds the hungry and gives clothing
to the naked. 17He refuses to do evil and doesn't lend money for profit. He
keeps my laws and obeys my commands. He will not die because of his
father's sins, but he will certainly live. 18His father, on the other hand,
cheated and robbed, and always did evil to everyone. And so he died because
of the sins he himself had committed.
19“But you ask, ‘Why shouldn't the son suffer because of his father's sins?’
The answer is that the son did what was right and good. He kept my laws and
followed them carefully, and so he will certainly live. 20It is the one who sins
who will die. A son is not to suffer because of his father's sins, nor a father
because of the sins of his son. A good person will be rewarded for doing good,
and an evil person will suffer for the evil he does.
21“If an evil person stops sinning and keeps my laws, if he does what is right
and good, he will not die; he will certainly live. 22All his sins will be forgiven,
and he will live, because he did what is right. 23Do you think I enjoy seeing
an evil person die?” asks the Sovereign LORD. “No, I would rather see him
repent and live.

24“But if a righteous person stops doing good and starts doing all the evil,
disgusting things that evil people do, will he go on living? No! None of the
good he did will be remembered. He will die because of his unfaithfulness
and his sins.
25“But you say, ‘What the Lord does isn't right.’ Listen to me, you Israelites.
Do you think my way of doing things isn't right? It is your way that isn't
right. 26When a righteous person stops doing good and starts doing evil and
then dies, he dies because of the evil he has done. 27When someone evil stops
sinning and does what is right and good, he saves his life. 28He realizes what
he is doing and stops sinning, so he will certainly not die, but go on
living. 29And you Israelites say, ‘What the Lord does isn't right.’ You think
my way isn't right, do you? It is your way that isn't right.
30“Now I, the Sovereign LORD, am telling you Israelites that I will judge
each of you by what you have done. Turn away from all the evil you are doing,
and don't let your sin destroy you. 31Give up all the evil you have been doing,
and get yourselves new minds and hearts. Why do you Israelites want to die?

101
32I do not want anyone to die,” says the Sovereign LORD. “Turn away from
your sins and live.”

I read this entire scripture to them, and I didn’t need to preach any other
message. They all understood the scripture. I explain the background story
of the Mororo people to them and the King was surprised I knew the story.
Bunmi was surprised as well. They asked how I knew about the story, I told
them God revealed it to me. One after the other, they pointed out what they
had learnt from the scripture…
“What you read tells us that it doesn’t really matter what our forefathers have
done, what matters is what we choose to do. If we continue to live like them
we will remain in darkness, but I we change OUR WAYS, our lives will be
better than theirs.” said the witch girl I saw the first day Adeyanju and I
stepped into Mororo.
It was a solemn assembly, everyone gave their lives to Christ. Bunmi wept
profusely, and Seun went towards her to hug her.
It was a beautiful one…

“GHOST RUN!”
©Opeyemi Ojerinde Akintunde
“I take thee to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day
forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health,
to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God's holy
ordinance; and thereto I pledge myself to you.” Tunde sword said those
words to me in front of the congregation of my father’s church.
Tunde Sword and I could not hide what we felt for each other. We denied it
for two years straight, but one night in Mororo sealed the deal
“I think we are wasting time! Seun and Bunmi just welcomed their son and
I think we are getting old.” Tunde said
“Old for what?” I pretended like I didn’t understand what he was saying
“Adenike, you know what I am talking about…I know you know”
“I don’t know”
“Fine, Adenike …I think you know I love you, and want to spend more
intimate time with you and I feel we should…”he was saying before I cut in
“What about your eunuch vow?” I teased
“You are making me rethink that …”
“Well give me two years to rethink my own stand too….”I said and laughed
“I have missed your hug, can you hug me?”
“NO….. Until after I say I do…”
*******************
Mororo became MOBOLUWADURO village (I stand with God). The river
was rededicated to God and the church we established stood for the Lord…
Five years later we moved from MOBOLUWADURO to a new missionary
assignment. We Left Seun and Bunmi as the Pastors of Moboluwaduro town.
