Natural disaster tsunami article

WHEN the natural disasters of earthquakes ('eartquakes') and tidal waves (tsunami) occurred in
Aceh and North Sumatra, everyone was cut and felt deeply saddened by the conditions that
occurred. The bodies of innocent and loved ones died, and thousands of people disappeared up to
over 200,000 people.

The main news ('head line') in all national and international media, always describes its
development every day. This condition is indeed very beneficial for several parties, especially the
increasing circulation of several media. However, the author is not discussing the advantages and
disadvantages that occur as a result of this national disaster. However, at least from the news, it has
a social impact ('social impact').

After hearing and watching impressions from the mass media, both electronic and print, began to
emerge concern for the victims of this disaster. Assistance came from the community and even from
various parts of the world, both in the form of materials and labor. The number of caring
people/volunteers (people who like and willingly--ed), who want to help fellow human beings.
However, to become a volunteer in Aceh and North Sumatra, certain skills are required, so that at
the scene of the incident it will not be a burden for others.

From the above incident, there are several interesting things for us to learn, including the
emergence of social awareness that occurs as a result of, first, a heartbreaking condition, which can
knock the heart of everyone who knows it. Second, there is the powerlessness of the community in
dealing with conditions, so that it creates a feeling of wanting to help. And third, there is continuous
reporting from the mass media, from morning to night, so that viewers and listeners, whether they
like it or not, have to open their eyes and ears. This can make the community more familiar and
familiar with these conditions, thus creating feelings of compassion and emotion.

The next thing is, there is a joint effort by all elements of society without considering background,
etc., so that people who were not 'knocked' to help and care, but after seeing other parties who
might be considered more 'incapable', can do something useful or useful then they begin to be
moved to care. So that the emergence of a social movement for the Veranda of Mecca. These are
some of the things that can raise concern among fellow nation's children who are being shrouded in
thick clouds and trials of life.

There was something intriguing and full of deep meaning, when at one time, the author 'chatted'
about the Urban Poverty Reduction Project (P2KP) with Djoko, a resident of Karangmanyar Village.
Djoko illustrates the existence of the poor as those who are being hit by the tsunami. From this
simple statement, it turns out that there are many meanings that we need to examine again, about
how we 'evacuate, rehabilitate and reconstruct'.
The process is also not only with 'sim salabiim or abakadabra!'. However, of course, through a
learning process through P2KP intervention, which later, also goes through the stages offered, with
the aim of making the community independent, namely by 'humanizing humans' for their rights and
obligations. Among them are, by bringing up people who reflect universal human values (honest,
fair, trustworthy, sincere/volunteer, equality, and unity in diversity), as pillars in poverty alleviation,
which in the process of implementation, must also uphold the principle of democracy, transparency,
participation, accountability and decentralization.

If the above human and social values have faded, the consequences will be even more
devastating than what was caused by the tsunami that occurred in Aceh and North Sumatra.
Because of the fading or loss of good human values, it can destroy various aspects of life, which as a
result, reaches the most essential things.

This does not mean that the author wants to bring dear readers to the contradictory conditions
between the earthquake and tsunami that occurred in the Veranda of Mecca and the government's
program through P2KP, but, from what happened, it becomes a lesson for us together, both in terms
of the emergence of universal human values. as well as the emergence of caring people (volunteers)
by learning from the consequences of the tsunami, among others, by inviting people to think that
the poor are a portrait of a sad condition. They (the poor) are in a state of helplessness, so they need
help, socialization needs to be done about their condition, so that the wider community will know
the real conditions, provide awareness that poverty is a shared responsibility and must be tackled
together as well. Thus, the 'earthquake and tsunami' disaster did not occur to the poor.
