Some people think international car-free days are an effective way of reducing air

pollution, others think there are some other ways. Discuss both views and give your own
opinion.

In this modern age, people’s opinions diverge when it comes to environmental protection
methods, especially regarding the alarming air pollution in populated areas. While many people
believe global-scaled no-car days are an innovative way of alleviating air pollution, others
reckon that other ways are also worth considering. In this essay, my objective is to shed light on
both views and state my opinion.

On the one hand, there are compelling reasons why people regard international no-car days as an
effective action against environmental pollution. Yet, cars are the most prevalent means of
transport on the roads and are incessantly the major source of air pollution. Therefore,
prohibiting car flows on certain days of the week can lower traffic density, which is analogous to
fewer greenhouse gases emitted to the environment. In other words, the car-free scheme is a
proximate practice to fight the cause of choking air all over the world.

On the other hand, other methods can also be employed to improve the air quality, one of which
is to implement the odd-even rule. The strategy entails allowing the running of certain cars on
certain days, depending on their plate numbers, which means on banning days, car-owners can
only use public transports. On top of that, encouraging the manufacture and the use of
environmentally friendly transportations like electric cars can be another ingenious way to tackle
the increasing air pollution. Unlike car banning, this method not only does not compromise the
convenience of cars but also contributes to the improvement of air quality.

To conclude, people can launch several schemes to conquer the repercussion of air pollution,
namely the prohibition of cars on some days on a global scale. However, although the idea of
car-free days may make a stride in environmental protection, other methods are way more
efficient, such as applying odd-even rule and promoting eco-friendly transportation.
