Question: What you learned from Magnesium Leachability article?

Answer: Basically magnesium leachability of Mg silicate peridotites is a well defined process to
increase the concentration of magnesium in ores in order to enhance the carbonation process or
to increase the capacity to store CO2 to make magnesium carbonate(valuable mineral). As we all
know the concentration of CO2 is increasing day by day which cause an increase in temperature.
There are different methods which are introduce to store CO2 like geological storage method and
magnesium leachibility is one of those method.
Question: Write Only one page of word document what you learned from the article. Draw
one/two diagrams (using Excel or Origin) from article and add in word document.
Answer: it is mentioned that temperature of the earth is increasing day by day due to the
excessive emission of CO2 which causes globle warming. So there is a need to control the
emission of CO2. So different methods are used in this regard like:
 Geological storage
 oceanic storage

Magnesium leachability is of the process of storing CO2 for carbonation process. Magnesium
reacts with CO2 differently and produces carbonates and bicarbonates more the magnesium more
will be the carbon dioxde will be attracted. So different methods are used. Park et al. used
different acid solutions and grinding media to increase Mg extraction. Similarly Farhang et al.
studied acid dissolution of heat-activated lizardite at different pH values, solid-toliquid ratios,
and particle sizes and obtained almost 60% Mg extractions during 1 h of dissolution. There are
different methods which are used to increase CO2 capacity in magnesium are described below
 Heat activation of dunite was performed in an electrically heated stainless-steel rotary
kiln at 630 °C under a nitrogen purge flow (80 L/h) for 4 h.
Reactivity via acid dissolution
This method is basically used to determine the concentration of
magnesium in particular ore The process involved drying solid sample at 100 °C for two days to
remove absorbed moisture. Once dried, 1 g of the dried sample was added to 200 mL buffered
acid solution sodium acetate and stirred by a magnetic stirrer. Samples of the supernatant
solution were taken using a 1 mL syringe at different time intervals. Samples were filtered
immediately using a 0.22 µL syringe filter, diluted by 2% nitric acid, and analyzed by ICP-OES.

Acid dissolution experiment:
In this experiment different sizes of heat transformed dunite react
with acids in different temperatures then graph is plotted

Carbonic acid dissolution of raw material:

1. Sub 20 microve olivine is trated with acids at different
temperaturrs and then graph is plotted
