Before you ask, the title is not referring to the island in the middle of the Ppacific

Oocean. This is referring to the fraternity located at UNL (University Of Nebraska Lincoln). This

fraternity has a long history of sexual assault accusations and in recent light, they’ve been under

a lot of fire. A 17 year old was found bloody and beaten on UNL campus. She claimed she was

raped by a member of Fiji named Max Helms. This incident was not the first time that members

from the frat have had sexual assault claims against them. They have a long history of sexually

assaulting students and it simply needs to be put to a stop.

Although Max Helms is only a suspect at the moment, essentially the entirety of

Nebraska is fighting to ban the frat for good. They are currently only suspended while the

investigation continues but should be banned from the college completely. Not only would this

be a good idea for the college in the long run, but would also help prevent any further incidents

like this from happening. The petition created to ban Fiji has had over 100,000 signatures in the

short amount of time it's been up and has been shared through social media thousands of times.

This story spread like wildfire throughout Nebraska, especially in places like York where they

live only an hour from the city that it happened in. It is terrible, disgusting, and the people will

not allow it to happen anymore.

A large part of why this incident “blew up” in the way that it did is because of the man

who was accused of the rape in the first place. He has been accused of rape and sexual assalt

pleanty of times in the past but this time was enough to push a whole state over the edge.

Imagine yourself in the same situation that poor girl was in. She was forced to do something she

did not want to in a sexual way and beaten because she resisted him. The amount of pain and

trauma she went through all so he could please himself. The night of this incident changed that

girl's life forever and Max has taken the situation like it'sits child’s play. He even signed the

petition himself because he thought it would never get enough signatures. After his address,

phone number, and other personal information was leaked, Max left the country to try and hide

away from it all. He was finally in trouble after all this time and decided to run away like a child.

This is just one of many examples of how terrible the Fiji frat treats women and why they should

be banned.

Taking the argument to the other side of the spectrum, what if not all of the men in the

frat are actually sexual abusers? What if it's just some of them but not all. Do they still deserve to

be punished for what their frat buddies did? I absolutely don't blame the innocent frat members

that may have been in the frat, but the frat as a whole has a tendency of having multiple sexual

accusations. The frat as a whole is responsible for these events and are liable to pay the price.

To conclude, there are many different reasons why Fiji should be banned from UNL. The

evidence held against them is too strong for the college to try and let it go. Fiji is a vile, nasty

place where women are sexually abused and raped. There is no place for it in Lincoln and we

must ban it if we wish to maintain public peace. So, if you haven't already, please sign the
