Revelation Chapter 5

Revelation Chapter 5 tells the story of the seven-sealed scroll, which only Jesus could
open. Once Jesus opened the seven-sealed scroll, it wasrevealed that it contained the
deed to all of the land on earth.

Looking for Someone Worthy

As Revelation Chapter 5 begins, John wrote about the seven-sealed scroll. This
parchment was in essence a legal document outlining deed information on parcels of
land. There were conditions related to the opening of the scroll.

First, it could only be done by a man who was a descendent of Adam. This man must
also be deemed perfect and without sin. All of heaven and earth was searched and no
such being could be found.

Jesus Worthy to Open the Scroll

John is saddened by this news, but an elder reminded him that Jesus, who came from
Adam and is perfect, could be the one to open the scrolls. A gathering is held where
Jesus is portrayed as a lamb in reference to his first coming when He was slain for
mankind’s salvation.

Jesus was at the side of a throne occupied by God. Next, John wrote about the 24 elders
who rejoiced at the notion that Jesus may open the scroll. All of these elders had been
redeemed by God.

Heaven Celebrates

Revelation Chapter 5 ends with a great celebration of the elders and angels preceding
the opening of the scroll. Jesus was hailed as the Lamb who was slain and the only one
worthy to open the scrolls. At this, all of the creatures around the throne and in Heaven
shouted “Amen!”
