The table contents summarise the instructions given on the labels applied centrally to the top of the de-
vice.

For operations listed previously, consult table and note the points listed for each in the following text.
Consult device manual for further information.

RECOVERING AND RECYCLING COOLANT FROM VEHICLE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

Before recoveringcoolant from vehicle air conditioning system, check that device dispensing cylinder
contains only a small amount of coolant. Then run vehicle engine with air conditioning systemactivated
for 10-15 minutes.
This precaution prevents the device dispensing cylinder filling completely and automatic interruption of
the operation with transfer of excess coolant to a cannister. A maximum amount of coolant may be re-
covered from the vehicle system under these circumstances.
When coolant pressureat the device low pressureintake reachesa level of - 0.2 bar, a pressureswitch
automatically interruptsoperation and «BLOCK»warning light (14) comeson. An acoustic signal indi-
cates that the recoveryoperation is complete

Auxiliary units Fiat barchetta
Air conditioner with manual controls

When the signal sounds, leave the device connected to the vehicle
systemand working for another 10 minutesso that any pocketsof low
pressurecoolant in the vehicle systemcan absorb heat in order to in-
creasepressureand be recovered.

To reduce waiting times associatedwith the last operation described

above, recovery of residual coolant may be forced by pressing button
(14). This operates the device compressor and checks vacuum level
reading on blue low-pressure gauge.

At the end of the above operation, oil separated from the recovered
coolant by the distillation unit may be observed by consulting level
gauge (A) and drained off through fitting (8) after opening cock (C).

The same amount of clean antifreeze may be added to the vehicle sys-
tem if necessary to make up the amount taken up by the device with
the coolant.
P3WO58HO1

DRAINING AND DRYING VEHICLE AIR CONDITION-

ING SYSTEM
Before draining and drying the system, check that the de-
vice vacuum pump contains the specified amount of un-
contaminated oil by carrying out the following operations:

run pump by turning function selector lever to position 2.

After checking oil level in indicator window (1) partly
unscrew ballast (2) to bleed off any uncondensed gas that
could contaminate the oil and cause serious damage to
the pump;

- after 5 minutes of operation, check that level of oil comes

just over half way up indicator window (1) and no impu-
rities can be seen on the surface;

P3WO58HO2

The oil level in the warm vacuum pump should not be higher or lower than the extreme levels shown on
the indicator window (1, lower figure on previous page). If too high, the pump will be overfilled with oil
and overheat so that it performs inefficiently. If too low, insufficient lubrication could lead to the danger
of seizure.
Vacuum pump operation is indicated by «PUMP» warning light coming on. When left hand pressure/-
vacuum gauge (low pressure side) indicates a vacuum reading, close VAC cock and turn function selec-
tor knob to O.

During the next 5 minutes check vehicle system seal by

ensuringvacuum reading on left-hand pressure/vacuum
gauge or an electronic vacuum gauge (connected to fit-
ting 1) does not drop and no leaks are noted. Continue
with interrupted operation until above pressure gauge
shows a vacuum reading of 10 mbar.

CHARGING VEHICLE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

Before charging vehicle air conditioning system, check that level of coolant in device dispensing cylin-
der corresponds to an amount much greater than the amount to be added to the system because the de-
vice goes off automatically when the minimum level is reached.
Add 70 grams to the amount of fluid specified for the system because this represents the amount left in
the connection lines when these are disconnected from the system needle valves.
If the system cannot be charged fully because pressure in system is at the same level as the pressure in
the dispensing cylinder, close HIGH cock, start vehicle engine, activate air conditioning system (fan set
to maximum cooling and top speed), slowly open LOW cock and reclose together with REF cock when
system charging is complete.

TRANSFERRING COOLANT FROM DEVICE DISPENSING CYLINDER TO A CONTAINER

Before beginning transfer, ensure that recipient is approved for pressures up to 35 bar and set up a vacuum
inside (at least -0.1 bar)
Use only the red hose for the transfer operation (high pressure side) and connect to recipient service
valve. Note that recipient must be filled solely with an amount equivalent to less than 80% of its volume.

TRANSFERRING COOLANT FROM CANNISTER TO EQUIPMENT DISPENSING CYLINDER

If this operation becomes necessary while charging the vehicle air conditioning system, first empty the
system and recover all the coolant added.

CHECKING PRESSURES IN VEHICLE SYSTEM

Pressure values can be read directly off the two device gauges (blue low pressure and red high pressure)
after connecting the two device hoses to the system.

MOISTURE INDICATOR AND FILTER REPLACEMENT

According to the colour assumed, moisture indica-

tor (1) records the amount of moisture present in
the liquid coolant after flowing through the first
three device filters.
Colours indicating percentage moisture levels for
given temperatures are shown in the table below

P3WO60HO1

When the central disc is light blue, the coolant is in good condition. When the colour becomes darker
blue, the filters are still in good condition and the coolant contains an acceptable level of moisture.
When the colour begins to lose its bluish shade and becomes purple, replace the filters.
The filters must be replaced at the end of the operation in progress even if the central disc has become
red. This is possible because the safety filter ensures an acceptable level of coolant cleanliness is main-
tained (third filter station).
To estimate the temperature of coolant in the moisture indicator, rest the thumb of one hand on the clear
part and use the colour scale given in the foll.owing table for the relevant temperature according to the
sensation felt:

Maximum acceptablemoisture level in coolant is 15 parts per million

The device automatically empties the part of the system connected to the filters for replacement and
when a vacuum of - 0.2 bar is set up in the compressor inlet line, a pressure switch stops the compressor
and simultaneously lights up the «BLOCK» warning light while turning on an acoustic signal;
When filters are removed for replacement, check that they are under a slight vacuum. If this is not the
case, the device system may not be working properly.
After replacing the filters, connect device to a cannister of R 134 A or a vehicle air conditioning system
and perform a recovery and cleaning cycle in order to eliminate air and moisture from the system.
