Issues in Barangay Malasin

Respondents answered that four are three major problems observed in their
barangay. Most of the respondents answered that the biggest problem that their
barangay is facing right now is “Walang sapat na pondo ang aming Barangay”,
“Nakakalat kung saan saan ang mga basura” because “Walang nangongolekta
ng basura dito samin”, “Wala kaming mapaglagyan ng basura dito”. Lack of
funds, lack of land space provided for wastes, and absence of garbage trucks
are lead to improper waste disposal which make the surrounding full of garbage
and wastes.

INSIGHTS
The barangay of Malasin were not able to have garbage trucks in their
barangay to collect their garbage because of insufficient funding. This is the
reason why garbage has piled up and scattered especially on the streets and
canals. It is very important to fund projects that supports the proper waste
disposal to maintain the cleanliness of the place and of course, to also protect
the health of the people living in that locality.

2. Nakakalat kung saan-saan ang mga basura.

INSIGHTS
Lack of discipline is the reason why this happens. This has made people
throw rubbish anywhere without thinking about the consequences of their
actions. Another reason is that because the barangay cannot fund projects
that support proper waste disposal, people are left with no choice but to throw
their garbage anywhere and yes, many people do not realize or
underestimate the negative impacts of littering on the environment.

3. Walang nangongolekta ng basura dito samin

INSIGHTS
Because of the absence of garbage collector in the barangay, people
resort to dumping or burning their waste close to where they live. Due to the
garbage lying here and there, flies and mosquitoes may gather and spread
many dangerous diseases like malaria and dengue. This is the reason why it is
important to give alternative solutions to prevent this problem that they are
currently facing because if this continues to happen, the health of the people
especially the kids will be affected.

4. Wala kaming mapaglagyan ng basura dito.

INSIGHTS
This is also one of the reason why people throw their trash everywhere.
Some of them resort on burning their wastes which is not good for their health,
most especially to the health of the children. If there is a site where they can
throw and segregate their wastes properly, there is no dirty surroundings out
there. All we need is an alternative solution to help meditate or prevent the
problem about improper waste disposal.
From the insights, derive the users’ needs.

 NEED 1:
The resident needs to practice street sweeping regularly to help lessen the
piled and scattered wastes on the streets.
 NEED 2:
They need garbage bin bag with holder stand metal frame to aid them in
throwing their wastes properly.
 NEED 3:
Resident themselves need sacks that they can use when they throw and
segregate their garbage to be more organized.
