CHAOS DICE for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th Edition

Chaos Dice were a very fun part of WFRP 2e’s magic system and this is my attempt to
integrate them in 4e’s system.

Usage

A Chaos Die (1d10) is rolled after either a Channeling or Casting roll. If the result from the
Chaos Die is equal to or less than the Spell’s Channeling Number, then a Minor Miscast is
rolled (if the CN is 0, then the Miscast is generated on a roll of 1).

If the preceding Channeling/Casting roll has already incurred a Miscast, then the Chaos Die
can increase it to the next severity (so from Minor to Major, for example).

When to add Chaos Dice into the mix

Influences

Whenever the spellcaster enters an area or is in a fight with other wizards who are heavily
corrupted, or when Morrslieb is particularly large on a given night, then you add a Chaos Die
and it persists until the area/fight/whatever circumstance is abandoned. Depending on the
severity of the situation, more Chaos Dice can be added to the Chaos Dice pool (there is no
limit, elaboration for how this works below)

Overcasting

When the spellcaster sees they have more than 2SL, they may decide to Overcast but have
to declare they are doing so. This by itself adds a Chaos Die +1 for every additional effect
beyond the first.

Resolution

To reiterate, when a Chaos Die is rolled after a Casting/Channeling test which may or may
not be successful, roll 1d10. If the resulting number is equal to or lower than the spell’s CN,
this results in a Minor Miscast (or on a roll of 1 if the CN is 0).

Multiple Chaos Dice

If multiple Chaos Dice result in a Minor Miscast, each Chaos Die beyond the first upgrades
the original Miscast instead of having to roll multiple Minor miscasts.
Alternatively, you may suffer 1 Corruption point to remove the Chaos Die’s result. For every
Chaos Die thereafter, you suffer an additional Corruption Point to the number of CP you had
to suffer for the previously removed Chaos Die.

Example: Joe the Wizard casts a spell with 3 Chaos Dice. All of them are below the spell’s
CN. That would mean he would suffer a Catastrophic Miscast (Minor upgraded into Major
upgraded into Catastrophic). He doesn’t particularly like the sound of that, he opts to take
the Corruption instead.

He suffers 1 Corruption point for the first Chaos die, then 2CP for the second and 3CP for
the third (again, increasing the score of the suffered CP by 1 for each die beyond the first),
which is a total of 6 Corruption Points. He might want to rethink that next time.

When the number of Chaos Dice whose results would upgrade a Miscast beyond the highest
severity, roll another Minor Miscast (and upgrade if needed) in addition to the first.
