Pumpkin Coasters
By Nicki LaFoille
Supplies
• Fabric scraps
• Brown felt, ribbon or burlap for stem
• Batting
Instructions
2. From the fabric, cut one pumpkin pair. From the batting, cut one pumpkin. From the burlap
or felt, cut a rectangle approximately 3/4”x2 1/2”.
3. Sandwich the batting between the fabric layers, with the fabric right sides facing out. Fold
the stem rectangle in half widthwise, aligning the short edges. Sandwich the rectangle short
edges 1/2” between the upper layer of fabric and batting; pin.
4. Using a slightly longer stitch length, stitch ¼” from the raw edges. If using burlap or material
that may fray, edgestitch the stem as well.
5. Mark three or four curved lines for the pumpkin shaping. Stitch over the lines, backstitching
at the beginning and end. Stitch over the lines twice for a bolder effect, if desired.
6. Trim the pumpkin raw edges using pinking shears, or cut slits approximately every ¼” using
sharp shears, being careful not to clip the seam.
