WOF is width of fabric
RST is right sides together

Cutting
Fabric 1 - White
cut (5) 2-1/2” strips - sub-cut into (67) 2-3/4” rectangles for EPP

Fabric 2 - background
cut (1) 33” x 43” background
cut (5) 2-1/2” x WOF - binding

Construction - Read all instructions before beginning

1. Center EPP hexagon on the wrong side of (1) 2-3/4” white rectangle. Trim edges to
create a hexagon. Wrap cut edge around hexagon and using one strand of thread to
baste fabric to the paper shape. Use long running stitches folding each edge as you
approach. See video for visual details. Either backstitch or knot at the Þnish of each
shape.
2. Proceed wrapping hexagons until (67) shapes are prepared, (12) for each small crystal
(43) for the large crystal.
3. To join hexagons place (2) shapes RST. Bury your thread knot and then proceed taking
tiny “wrapping” stitches over the sides you are intending to join. The stitch should not
go through the EPP shape, but go through the fold of each shape.

4. See video for details. Double stitch the Þnal stitch, drawing up through the loop of the
stitch. If an adjoining hexagon can be placed, continue in like manner with the next
shape. If the next shape to be joined is one “side” away, “travel” your needle in the
wrapped portion of the hexagon you just stitched in order to be positioned for the next
shape to be added. Continue until a crystal has been created.
5. Note - the large crystal can be created in sections, shown below, in order to reduce the
time handling a large shape.

6. I created the “legs” of the crystal and then joined them to the main center ring. A single
hexagon is centered in the middle of the shape and is not stitched to any other
hexagon.
7. Press the three crystal shapes after construction. Gently remove all EPP papers by
snipping basting threads.
8. Press the background fabric and apply spray starch for added body. Mark background
fabric in order to position crystals following the diagram given or create your own
design.

An option is to use appliqué pins. Working with one shape at a time, stitch shape in
place either by hand or by machine. I used monoÞlament in the loop thread, a Þne
thread in the bobbin and stitched a zigzag (W - 1.0; L - 2.5) around the shapes.
