course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and

format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Describe your organization.

Bingos (fictional) is a company operating for 50 plus years in various capacities. They

started as a small shop that would serve the local community but continued to grow and expand

over the years. Bingos is now a national retail organization that has hundreds of locations

throughout the country. In addition to the hundreds of stores located in the nation, there are 28

or so distribution centers that service the stores in their region. Bingos prides itself on being an

open and accepting work culture that welcomes diversity.Describe how

Describe your role in the organization (it can be internal or external).

At Bingos, I work as an Operations Manager. I oversee a team of about 100 team members in

the warehousing department, looking over staffing, plan management, and training, among many

other things. I’ve been with the company for over 10 years and have been in many departments

and positions during my time with the company.

2) Describe the situation. (see the Canvas instructions for details, especially about how

your situation will be analyzed from five different perspectives over the next five

modules)

During one of the hiring waves last year, the company hired two deaf team members. This

department and the building were not set up with accessibility features to accommodate the team

members. When they came into the building, we had them accompanied by translators to

facilitate their training. We also teamed with our maintenance department to see if there was

anything we can do to retrofit their equipment to ensure the safety of the team members, both the

deaf team members and the ones working around them.

In the end, there was nothing that we were able to fit the equipment. We looked into

having the team members wear a different color vest to identify added caution around them. Still,

We identified that as problematic in labeling/marking a team member based on their “disability.”

In the end, we were able to effectively train the team members to perform the job function and

operate the equipment safely without additional accommodations but effective communication

with the team. However, there were still concerns that needed to be addressed in communication

with the team members and the managers during an emergency( the intercom systems wouldn’t

effectively notify them). We looked into ordering two-way texting radios, but the team members

left the company for outside personal reasons before receiving the radios.

Although the employees are no longer with the company, they revealed many flaws in our

system and accessibility. We can take a lot of the teachings learned from this experience to grow

as a business and be more inclusive.
