ANALYSIS:

1. What have you learned from Magellan’s Voyage around the world?

-Learn the importance of patience and endurance, as well as how to make crucial decisions. Before
being able to set sail, Magellan had to recruit his crew, acquire and renovate five ships, and gather all of
the essential equipment. He was delayed, but eventually departed the shipyard in Sevilla, only to return
a few days later to the mouth of the Guadalquivir to conclude preparations and loading. Although two
and a half years may not seem like a long time, Magellan was already 39 years old when he embarked
on his nearly decade-long journey.Make important decisions when you need to. During the journey,
Magellan must have wondered if he was correct, if his decisions were the right ones, in a number of
extraordinarily tough situations. There were five ships, hundreds of men, tons of equipment, and
substantial financial commitments on the line, as well as the chance to make history and show the earth
was round.

2. How did Pigafetta’s account help you understand Magellan first Voyage

around the World?

-It helps me understand how people on the actual ships saw their own ship (since it is a first-hand
account of the Magellans/Elcano trip by a fleet member), which means it has the most accurate details,
setting aside (of course) the self-interest of people involved in projecting a better image of themselves,
and also how Europeans that have never visited the Philippines saw the indifference (the account is the
first record of languages like Cebuano).

3. What does Pigafetta’s account tell us about the conditions of the

-Visayan Islands in the 16th century?

Pigafetta states that gold is plentiful and iron is limited. To some extent, men and women were treated
equally. They have attire for both formal occasions and ordinary work.

4.Based on the Chronicle’s of Pigafetta, how this document considered as primary source?

-Pigafetta kept a meticulous journal, which has also been lost. Pigafetta's research is relevant not just as
a source of information concerning the voyage, but also as a significant Western description of the
Philippines' people and languages.
5.Explain the authenticity of the document or the evidence being used.

-Pigafetta explains how, while being in Barcelona in 1519, he heard regarding Magellan's journey and,
anxious to learn from the experiences, he asked for and received permission to join the expedition.
Magellan moved out just to confirm that the world was round, and he did so by his explorations.

ANALYSIS

1. What was the socio-political context when the Kartilya was written?

How crucial was this document in the 19th century Philippines?

-Katipuneros' acts have been inspired by the Kartilya, a moral and intellectual framework. Members of
the Katipunan were supposed to read the Kartilya and bind themselves to its code of conduct when they
enrolled. The early Katipueros realized that changing people's views and behavior was the only way to
truly transform the Philippines for the better. Performing the Katipunan and implicitly referring them
without completely understanding their political and moral context and aspirations fundamentally
reduces the scope of what they were attempting to achieve.

2. How would you describe the Kartilya in terms of its form/writing style

and content? What are its main teachings and how are they presented?

APPLICATION

1. As a student, how will you embody the main teachings and guiding

principles of the Kartilya? Cite specific lines from the document. (Write in at least 100 words)
