Purpose of Role:
To lead the on-board medical department and provide medical services to guests and crew.
Main Tasks & Activities:
Time

1. Medical Department Allocation

20%

 Take responsibility and accountability for the medical team and medical facilities and equipment.
 To monitor that members of the team are completing their designated tasks.
 To regularly contact shore side team (CMO/CNO) and advise of any developing situation.

2. Duty Allocation

45%

 Provide both inpatient and outpatient care to guests and crew, covering acute emergency and
chronic disease management. To promote the running of crew wellness clinics.
 To have a comprehensive understanding of SeaCare to maintain accurate medical records.
 Investigate and treat appropriately on board, referring shore side where necessary
 Maintain knowledge of use of near patient testing and emergency equipment
 Maintain confidentiality and standards of GMC- Good Medical Practice
 Function as the onboard Radiation Protection Supervisor and maintain safe use of X-rays
 Cover daytime and duty rota, always remaining contactable whilst onboard, and respond promptly
to requests for medical assistance.
 Understanding of the computer software programs Seacare, MMS, Fidelio and IBS.
 Delegating tasks where appropriate to other members of the team and following up their actions.

3. Public Health Allocation

20%

 To be fully familiar with the company Outbreak Prevention Plan, especially any procedure relating
to the medical department.
 Report public health concerns to onboard senior management and shoreside team.
 To communicate with Port Health and comply with their advice.
 Provide health education and counselling on specific health matters to guests and crew as needed.

Time

4. Training Allocation

5%

 To continue to develop personal education, through completing mandatory education including


ALS, ATLS, PALS, and other learning methods, and maintain an educational log
 Complete annual medical appraisal
 Maintain Professional registration and meet the requirements of that organisation
 Participate in mandatory onboard training, including medical instructing where necessary
 To obtain UK GMC registration (if not already registered). Time period to be agreed with CMO
Time

5. Other Duties as Delegated Allocation

10%

 To be familiar with the Ships Emergency Plan, Muster list and ships code of conduct and know how
to access and be familiar with the SQM Policies and guidelines.
 Conduct Audits in the medical department as required.
 To attend senior management meetings and other meetings, such as environmental, safety where
possible as requested.
 To provide accurate appraisal of all medical staff.
 To undertake any additional duties as may be reasonably be expected.
