ABSTRACT

This study aimed to identify the effects of lockdown to the transmission of Coronavirus

Disease 2019 as perceived by the STEM students in Cristal e-College, Tawala, Panglao,

Bohol. It was found out that the lockdown and other protocols really do hold a great

impact to the transmission of the virus considering the answers of the informants. It was

found out that it reduces the number of COVID cases. However, it was also found out

that it affects the lives of the people in the community. There have been mentioned

problems such as the changes in their studies and in their families’ financial standing

while this pandemic is ongoing. The study was conducted in Cristal e-College, Tawala,

Panglao, Bohol. It was a descriptive qualitative research done within a group of 12

respondents who were all STEM students of the college.

CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

INTRODUCTION

Rationale

“New Normal,” two words that changed our lives upside down. When we say new

normal, it means the condition when an economy, society, etc. resolve following a crisis,

when this vary from the situation that prevailed prior to the start of the crisis.

(Wikipedia) .We experiencing the new normal state today because of the 2019 novel

corona virus. The Covid 19 Pandemic tremble the humanity. This virus was originated

from the province of Wuhan China. Covid 19 can cause respiratory tract infections that

can range from mild to Lethal. Mild illnesses in humans include some cases of the

common cold. It is a kind of virus that is highly transmissible. It is spreads through

droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or

sneezes that is why it killed many people all over the world. It can affects people

differently. The most common symptoms are fever, dry cough and tiredness. This

phenomenon put us together to be united, experts work hard to find a solution or vaccine

to this kind of virus.

This study aimed to educate people for preventive measures of spreading the

corona virus. We always say that prevention is better than cure so we need to practice this

saying by having enough knowledge about the virus, stay informed and by taking

appropriate precautions. Health authorities gave us advices to prevent or to slow down

the Covid 19 virus and here are some:

7

 Clean your hands often. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub.

 Maintain a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

 Wear a mask when physical distancing is not possible.

 Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth.

 Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or

sneeze.

 Stay home if you feel unwell.

 If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention (World

Health Organization).

In this paper we focused on Stay at home, social distancing or lockdown. This

study will show if lockdowns is one of the best solution to prevent and slow down the

transmission of this kind of virus. This study offers the effects of lockdown to corona

virus transmission. A lockdown is a requirement for people to stay where they are,

usually due to specific risks to themselves or to others if they can move freely. The term

“stay-at-home” or “shelter-in-place” is often used for lockdowns that affect an area,

rather than specific locations (Wikipedia).

In Wuhan China human mobility restrictions, particularly the lockdowns delayed

of the spread of Covid 19 virus. It is very challenging to each and everyone of us to

understand the effectiveness of lockdown to control this Corona Virus. Lockdowns

became controversial because of the negative impact in our economy and mental health.
8

Review of Related Literature

It was found that a total of 14 studies were useful in illuminating how much

voluntary changes in behavior in the spring meant to the overall social response to the

COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, I have reviewed 8 studies that look at, inter alia,

voluntary changes in behavior as a result of the pandemic but do not assess the

importance of these behavioral changes in relation to the mandated changes in behavior.

The studies were found in October 2020 by searching for “covid lockdown effect" on

scholar.google.com for 2020. This search results in approximately 20,000 hits, so to limit

the scope, only the first 15 pages of results have been reviewed, and those studies for

which the headline and the first line of the abstract indicated that the study was relevant

to my study have been looked at more closely. I have also reviewed all studies published

at CEPR Covid Economics, where I initially sorted roughly on the basis of the headline

and then by reading the abstract. In addition, there are studies that I have come across on

an ongoing basis, as I have called for studies in the Danish Facebook group “CUVAK-

COVID19 - Videnskabelig, Uvildig Kommunikation” (“CUVAK-COVID19 - Scientific,

Impartial Communication”), as well as on my profiles on Facebook and Twitter. I have

also included the studies that have been referenced in the studies found. Finally, I have

added two studies sent to me by scholars during my research. The authors of all the

studies I have used have been sent a draft of this literature review in order for them to be

able to comment on my review of their work. Note that my literature search does not

follow review guidelines such as PRISMA1 and thus should be seen as a first literature

review which should be elaborated by other scholars. The studies differ in three key

dimensions. First of all, they use different data for the development of the pandemic:
9

confirmed cases, number of registered COVID-19 deaths and overall mortality. There are

relatively important design-related issues with using the number of confirmed cases, as it

depends on the testing strategies in the individual countries. The number of COVID-19

deaths is a better measure because the definition of a COVID-19 death is more uniform

across countries. However, it is my opinion that the best measure is overall mortality, as

this measure captures what we are really interested in: that the lockdowns save lives. For

example, if the lockdowns simply move the cause of death from COVID-19 to another

cause of death, the effect of the lockdown is smaller. Chernozhukov et al. (2020) has in

an email stated that “Furthermore, there are some reasons why we may trust the results of

case growth regression more than the results of death growth regression. In particular,

there is a lot of uncertainty with respect to how long it takes for the policy to affect the

death growth rates---some infected persons die within 10 days after being infected while

others will die after 3-4 weeks.

Review of Related Studies

Hamming Fang, Long Wang and Yang Yang conducted a study about Human

Mobility Restrictions and the Spread of the Novel Coronavirus (2019 N-Cov) in China at

the National Bureau of Economic Research during the academic March 2020.The

purpose of this study is to show the impact of human mobility restrictions particularly the

lockdown in the city of Wuhan China on January 23, 2020 on the restriction and delay the

spread of Novel Corona Virus. They found that the lockdown in Wuhan China reduced

the inflow into Wuhan by 76.64% and outflows from Wuhan by 56.35%. They use

counterfactual simulations with these estimates. They found out that the lockdowns
10

reduced the total infections outside of Wuhan. The results of their analysis provide

important evidence that social distancing or human mobility restrictions delay of the

spread of contagious viruses. The study showed that the result can have generalize

implications to other countries to fight and prevent the Corona Virus.

Mingwang Shen, Zhihang Peng, Yuming Guo, Yanni Xiao, and Lei Zhang

Conducted a study about Lockdown may partially halt the spread of 2019 novel

Coronavirus in Hubei province, China this study is under a CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0

International License. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of lockdown on

the 2019- nCov epidemic in Hubei province in China. The implementation of lockdown

shows to be effective in reducing about 60% of new infections and deaths, and its

effectiveness appears even after the removal. Delaying the implementation of lockdowns

reduces its effectiveness. The economic effect of the lockdown remains under

investigation.

Tuo Ji, Hai-Lian Chen, Jing Xu, Ling-Ning Wu, Jie-Jia Li, Kai Chen and Gang

Qin was also conducted a study about Lockdown Contained the Spread of 2019 Novel

Corona Virus Disease in Huangshi City, China: Early Epidemiological Findings. The

purpose of this study is to know the temporal active cases and characteristics of Huangshi

City, China. This study shows that the lockdowns help to improve public health

intervention strategies against the pandemic on the country and globally. The data

collection and analysis of this study were calculate by the municipal health commission

and they are part in investigation. The study thus considers exempt the institutional

review board approval.

THE PROBLEM

Statement of the Problem

The outbreak of corona virus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has produced global health

crisis. This disease changed the world upside down. As young generation, we are also

responsible how to solve or stop this contagious virus. The purpose of this study is to

assess the effects of the lockdown to corona virus infection.

Moreover, it seeks to answer the following questions:

1. How does lockdown affect the transmission of Corona virus?

2. How does social distancing or lockdown reduce the transmission of the disease?

3. What are the possible effects of lockdown to corona virus?

4. Why is there a need to follow proper protocols in this pandemic time?

Significance of the Study

This study tries to find out the effects of lockdowns and social distancing to Corona virus

transmission in the society. The result of this study may be beneficial to the following:

Students. It will give them more information about this contagious disease and

how to prevent it by lockdowns and social distancing. It is important that every individual

will understand and participate in this protocols that the government implemented to us.

Parents. This will enable them to become aware of the causes of the transmission

of corona virus and how to avoid the transmission of this disease. Parents may increase
12

their participation to our government and front liners and they can also educate their

family about this prevention.

Front Liners. If everyone will be aware of these protocols and prevention, our

front liners will no longer have a hard time to explain and execute the rules and

regulations in preventing the transmission of the virus. This enables them to guide the

people what are the people going to do in times of lockdowns and social distancing.

Government. It will provide them the possible effects of social distancing and

lockdowns. They can also provide the needs of the people in times of lockdowns. The

government will understand why there are people who are still not following the rules of

lockdowns. In this they can plan the execution of lockdowns more effective to the people

just to suppress the transmission of the virus.

Businessmen. Since lockdowns are implemented the businessman can find ways

how to serve people in other ways with lesser face to face contact. They can plan some

alternative ways in business so that our economy will stay alive and will continue to

serve the consumers.

Environment. We all know that the effect of lockdown on our environment

because of Covid-19 has been studied in many researches. It is observed that our

environment renewed itself because of all kinds of industry, vehicle movement and social

activities of people continue at a low level for a long time. Particularly, a positive effect

of lockdown restrictions on air and water quality has been observed.

13

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This Chapter shows the presentation of the research process. It gives information

about the method that was used in planning this research as well as a justification for the

use of this method. The Chapter also express the different stages of the research, which

includes the selection of participants, the data collection process and the process of data

analysis. The Chapter also discusses the role of the researchers in qualitative research in

relation to reflexivity. The Chapter ends with a discussion of validity and reliability in

qualitative research and discusses the way in which these two requirements were met in

the current study.

This research explored the challenges faced by the STEM students in finding out

the Effects of lockdown to Corona Virus Transmission. The interaction between the

researcher and the participants consisted of surveys where both shared similar

experiences about the lockdowns in different places.

Design

Qualitative research was deemed suitable for this research project as the purpose

of this study was to explore the views of people of Panglao about the lockdowns and how

it effects in suppressing the transmission of the Corona Virus disease. The research aim

was to explore a particular meaning without presenting the findings as the absolute truth

but to show the effectiveness of lockdowns or social distancing to reduce the transmission

of the virus.
14

Environment

The locale of the study was Cristal e-College located in KM. 15, Central

Highway, Tawala, Panglao, Bohol. The college was established on March 1, 2002, as a

franchise of Informatics Computer Institute, an institution engaged in world class

Information Technology Training and Education services. It is a private non-sectarian

educational institution which aims to mold the nation’s manpower for national and

international development.

Participants

The participants in this study were all STEM students of Cristal e-College,

Tawala, Panglao, Bohol. The research consists of 12 participants who served as the

informants from whom the information were gathered.

Data Collection Process

During the research process and especially during the data collection phase, the

participants were able to decide on the venue for their interviews. The researchers sent

questionnaires through email, and allowed the participants to answer them. An informal

interview through Messenger application was then conducted after the participant has

answered the questionnaire online. As a result, each participant was interviewed at a time

and venue chosen by convenience. The participants were interviewed either through

video call or call. Most of the participants indicated a preference for the interviews to

take through a call. The interviews were conducted by the researcher and were all

conducted in English, although there were times when participants would use their home
15

language.

Instruments

The instrument was a researcher-made questionnaire consisting two main

sections: the Profile of the Participants and the Question proper. The profile consists of

the name of the interviewee (optional) and the question part was made of

Procedure

The researchers will write a letter of permission to the principal to conduct the

study. The researchers will use interview-guide questionnaire to be sent through the

internet. One-on-one virtual interview between the researcher and the respondents will be

conducted.

CHAPTER II

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND INTERPRTATION OF DATA

This chapter presents the data gathered from the interview done by the

researchers. The data were gathered from a total of 12 respondents who are basically

STEM students from Cristal e-College, Tawala, Panglao, Bohol.

The data are presented in a brief and concise form following the sequence

presented in the SOP to come up with the correct analysis.

For question number one, according to respondent number 1 “The lockdown

affected our community in a way that it became less lively due to the fear of the virus.

People were also afraid of going outside and gatherings were not allowed.” As to

respondent number 2, “Lockdown is an effective way in facing this kind of crisis but what

more saddens me is the fact we don’t have enough money to buy such essential goods

where we should stock foods while we are in a lockdown. So, my point is, financially

unstable is the way lockdown affects our community where we cannot buy essential

goods during the transmission of COVID-19.” Most of the respondents say that the

lockdown literally made their parents lose their jobs. Moreover, it has caused for their

respective communities to shut down or postpone any annual activities they used to

celebrate before. Thus we can say that the lockdown that happened when this pandemic

started really did affect many communities in the country in different ways.
20

For the second question, respondent number 3 said “Lockdown did affect my

family’s financial status, because our business was forced to close for months or a year

by now, even after we started opening again there are so little customers that isn’t really

stable.” Many of the respondents say that the lockdown really did affect their family’s

financial capacity since most of their parents became unemployed.

On the third question about its effect to their studies, all of the respondents said

yes, that it did affect their study habits and determination especially those who are under

online classes. It’s kind of hard for them to look for connection and load allowance. For

validity, here are the responses from two of the respondents, “Absolutely it did. Because

of this pandemic students are forced to take an online education which is difficult to

adjust due to various problems like internet connection, having a smart device, etc” and

“Yes, lockdown implementation has affected and is continuously affecting my studies.

For me personally, online classes are never really meant for me, and I really find it

difficult adjusting to the new ways of learning.”

On the fourth question regarding social distancing, “This

depends on where. There will be social distancing if there are government officials

around us to avoid penalties once spotted. But if none, there will be no social distance

since people will be confident enough to trust each other that none of them has the virus.

This is normal on occasions which call in a big gathering.” Some of the respondents also

claim that they tend to not follow the protocol at all, some forget to socially distance

themselves and some strictly do follow the rule since they’re scared of the virus’ rapid

growth.
21

For the fifth question regarding how lockdown and other safety protocols reduce

the of cases, respondent number 4 said “Health protocols that are implemented such as

lockdowns and social distancing reduce the transmission of virus. It keeps everyone safe

from the physical touch of the people they interact with.” Most of the respondents

consider the transmission of the virus which is through physical contact especially

through body liquids when people get to interact with the other.

For the sixth question regarding evidences that cases of the virus has reduced,

some of the respondents said there are none, since they continue to hear that the number

of confirmed cases rise every other day. Some too said yes, because they have seen or

witnessed positive-tested people who immediately got free from the virus after some

isolation required. Here are two answers from respondents 6 and 8, “Yes, especially there

are confirmed cases of a person who lived near the airport. Good thing is that he doesnt

want to socialize which makes him always want to stay indoors. If he were to socialize

before he was confirmed to be positive of the virus, he could have infected other people,”

and Not yet, but there's some front liners have their vaccination.”

Lockdown was found to be an effective way in reducing the number of confirmed

cases according to participants nine and eleven’s responses in question number seven. “It

is effective because people tend to stay at home rather than doing anything outside,” and

“Yes lockdowns are effective because it will help to reduce the transmission of the virus

from one person to another.” They find it effective since people are forced to stay indoors

for their own safety and for the chance to reduce if not completely eradicate the spread of

the said virus.

22

Lockdown really do help in reducing the number of cases although this made

most of the localities look like a ghost town for not having anybody seen on the streets

said the respondents for question number eight. This is stated in the answers of

respondents number 2 and 5 where they mentioned “In our province, the effects of

lockdown to corona virus is that we have small cases in our province which it is

unexplainable that we are knowledgeable following strictly protocols,” and “The effects

are that Jobs are aborted, prices went up and people are more cautious.”

For the ninth question about lockdown’s effects to the nature, most of the

respondents say that it reduced the number of garbage being disposed just anywhere.

Also, they have found out that some studies even confirmed the freedom of the animals

that used to hide from humans. Stated verbatim, “Yes, since many companies are forced

to close, there are also those who create problems to nature, such of which that causes

pollution or any harm to them. Today however, animals and other living creatures are

now thriving peacefully due to less disturbances. Especially less homes being destroyed.”

For question number 10, some respondents admit that they forget or sometimes

just don’t follow the safety guidelines during this pandemic, but somehow, some too

strictly do follow the protocols for their own safety. Here are the statements of

respondents 12 and 9. “Yes of course since especially in our situation today rbat we are

needed to follow some health protocols just to be safe,” and “Yes I will always follow the

health protocols and even my family will because this the only thing who can help us pass

this challenge.”

For question number 11 about the wearing of face mask. The respondents say that

it is very essential to follow this rule since it is one way to reduce the spread of the virus
23

since the virus mostly happens through oral transmission. “As Ive said earlier. Covid19

transmissiom works through verbal comminication. That is why it is necessary to wear

face mask so that it would prevent the affected person to infect other people throught

their saliva since most of us when we're talking, our saliva will usually splash,” says

respondent number 7.

And for the last question about their level of anxiety despite following healthy

guidelines, the respondents said yes. They still are afraid especially that the number of

cases continues to grow behind curtains despite implementing all those protocols.

According to respondents 1 and 3, “Yes I am still afraid not just for myself but for my

family also. My mother is a front liner and even though she follows health safety

protocols it is still possible of her being infected by the virus. I am always praying that

she will always be healthy and not fall sick because of the virus,” and “Not really,

because I trust myself and my gear to protect little 'ol me from getting infected.”
24

CHAPTER III

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter provides the synopsis of the findings and conclusion on the different

points of the paper conducted by the researchers. Furthermore, the proponent of the

research in line with different research-based results and findings hereby present

recommendations to maximize the intent of the study.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

This study tries to investigate on the effects of lockdown and other protocols to

the transmission of Corona Virus Disease’s transmission as perceived by students from

the academic track, STEM in Cristal e-College in Tawala, Panglao, Bohol.

This study will further analyze the perception of the students regarding the

problem.

The researchers have found out reliable and factual information from the

respondents’ given answers to the interview questions. They have found out that the

lockdown and other protocols really do hold a great impact to the transmission of the

virus considering the answers of the informants. It was found out that it reduces the

number of COVID cases. However, it was also found out that it affects the lives of the
25

people in the community. There have been mentioned problems such as the changes in

their studies and in their families’ financial standing while this pandemic is ongoing.

CONCLUSION

Below are the concluded statements of the researchers based on the findings of this paper.

1. The lockdown affects the transmission of the virus in a way that it reduced the

number of confirmed positive cases in the community.

2. The lockdown affected not only the transmission of the virus, but also the way

people lived their lives.

3. The lockdown and other health protocols helped in combating the spread of the

Corona Virus Disease ’19.

RECOMMENDATIONS

In connection with the findings and conclusion, the following are recommended

by the research proponents:

1. The community may implement a community wide lockdown when there is a

serious growth in the number of confirmed cases.

2. The higher officials may provide an adequate amount of fund for the society

especially those who need it the most.

3. The people of a certain locality must strictly follow the given health protocols

to prevent further spread of the virus.

26

4. Lastly, the schools and community shall help each other in providing the

needs of the students while adapting to the new normal.

Respondent 2: Jhim rhex Mejos Lumanao

1. In what way lockdown affects your community during the transmission of the

corona virus?

Lockdown is an effective way in facing this kind of crisis but what more saddens me is the

fact we don't have enough money to buy such essential goods where we should stock

foods while we are in a lockdown. So, my point is, financially unstable is the way

lockdowm affects our community where we cannot buy enough essential goods during the

transmission of the COVID-19.

2. Did lockdown affect your families’ financial status during this pandemic? Why?

Yes, it sadly is. For the reason that, our breadwinners are unemployed caused by COVID

which they are only our hope to survive in our everyday financial struggle.

3. Does lockdown affects your studies during the transmission of corona virus?

As a new normal student, I don't think lockdown affects my studies as I just stamp into my

mindset to satisfyingly hold my studies in a chill way in such a way it wouldn't cause

problems to myself.

4. Did you always observe social distancing in public places? And why?

I honestly forget to socially distance myself and it should not be tolerated because it's not
34

a good act. The reason why it should observe is because we don't know that those people

are having sign symptoms which we don't want to get infect with.

disease?

Lockdowns and social distancing can reduce the transmission of the disease for it is the

For me, I didn't find lockdown effective for I had not seen any cases slowly reducing.

In our province, the effects of lockdown to corona virus is that we have small cases in our

province which it is unexplainable that we are knowledgeable following strictly

protocols.

nature?

During this virus happened, I do have seen many people doing planting which is a good

idea to burst stress out and a good one to love nature.

10.Do you always follow the proper safety health protocols ? Why and why not?

Honestly, sometimes I don't follow and many times and majority times I follow but as I
35

said I should not tolerate this for this isn't a nice act. For the reason that I follow

protocols, is that it is the best we could do to help ourselves protected from the virus and

also to our frontliners.

11.Why should you regularly wear face mask whenever you go outside?

We should regularly wear a mask because as I said it is the best we could do to help

ourselves protected from the virus.

12.Are you still afraid even though you are already following the proper health

protocols? Why and why not?

A big yes. Even though we observe protocols, it isn't enough to lessen the higher cases we

have. So, what we should regularly and powerfully do is to pray and keep our faith.

corona virus?

It affected our communities by restricting our activities outside, and having tight

area because of lockdown or social distancing?

Yes, my neighborhood and barangay have no known cases as of the moment.

Yes, I find it to be effective, because just like I mentioned before, having less contact with

too stubborn and ignores these rules making it problematic.

province?

Like I said before, It made my town almost like a ghost town with no people to be seen

outside, but because of this there hasn't been any known cases.

9. During this corona virus disease , did you find any effects of lockdown in our

nature?

Yes, studies shown that because of this pandemic, greenhouse gasses and overall
37

pollution emission have decreased over the past year, endangered animals also started to

prosper like dolphins and whales.

Yeah sometimes, I don't really follow it if I'm with my friends which I know haven't had

any contact with there people other than me, my other friends, and their family, but if I'm

around strangers of course I follow it.

11. Why does lockdowns and social distancing can reduce the transmission of the the

Not really, because I trust myself and my gear to protect little 'ol me from getting

infected.

Respondent 4: Kyla Marie Cubio Min

1. In what way lockdown affects your community during the transmission of the

Lockdown implementation has affected our community in a way that few people are

cases in your area because of lockdown or social distancing?
I guess it's the number of covid cases we have in our community. If the case is
decreasing or not, we can tell if the implemented protocols are effective or
not. And i guess that's the evidence.
6. Did you find this lockdown effective for reducing the virus? Why or why
not?
Yes. Stated on my answers above, lockdown reduces the spread of the virus
because it doesnt allow the people to go outside of their houses. And as a
result, less people outside, less contamination of the virus.
7. What are the effects of lockdown to corona virus in your area or in your

I think the effects of lockdown in our community, is that it reduces the
contamination of the virus around our place. And also, the officials will not be
that problematic of the virus that's been spreading everywhere.
8. During this corona virus disease , did you find any effects of lockdown in
our nature? Lockdown really has so many effects, may it be to people or to
the situation of families. And towards nature, lockdown has also its effects.

means less pollution, less trashes everywhere. And the nature can fully redeem
itself and heal itself.
9. Do you always follow the proper safety health protocols ? Why and why
not?
Following proper health protocols can and will make us safe from any viruses
39

outside. Wether you like it or not, it is necessary for everyone to follow these

Yes and No, sometimes I forget to social distance myself but when I enter shops I
always distance myself from other people.

5. Why does lockdowns and social distancing can reduce the transmission of
the the disease?
The virus only spreads through physical contacts and near/air transmission.
Lockdowns and social distancing prevent those from happening .

6. Are there any evidences of reducing the transmission of corona virus cases
in your area because of lockdown or social distancing?
Yes a neighbor of mine was tested positive and he took a self quarantine and me
and my family was also in lockdown, now hes ok and the disease wasnt
40

Respondent 6: Shane Perales

1. In what way lockdown affects your community during the transmission of

the corona virus?
The lockdown definitely forced and challenged the community especially since
they cant be that sociable to one another. No big gatherings as they might receive
consequence such as violations. Families are already having struggles since
many have losed their jobs and careers.

2. Did lockdown affects your families financial status during this pandemic?
Why?
41

It is, especially since we run a business. The lack of getting income, not only to
pay for our maintenance for our business but we also have to pay for the salaries
for our staff and workers.

3. Does lockdown affects your studies during the transmission of corona

virus?
Not much but there is more distractions and disturbance if you are around a
group of people. We may be able to easily surf the web but some specific lessons
from our teacher's given outputs can be hard to find online as you might be
mislead, resulting to a difficult and most likely a wrong answer. Not only that but
teachers can also be busy and unlike face to face, we cant always immediately
approach them.

4. Did you always observe social distancing in public places? And why?
This depends on where. There will be social distancing if their are government
officials around as to avoid penalties once spotted. But if none, there will be no
social distance since people will be confident enough to trust each other that
none of them has the virus. This is normal on occations which calls in a big
gathering.

5. Why does lockdowns and social distancing can reduce the transmission of
the the disease?
Because there are people who may feel ill but would still go outside to meet
people, which could spread the virus and infect numerous people. Staying indoors
and to avoid contact to different people, may it be your neighbors or important
people who are outside your household, you must always protect and prioritise
your life.

6. Are there any evidences of reducing the transmission of corona virus cases
in your area because of lockdown or social distancing?
Yes, especially there are confirmed cases of a person who lived near the airport.
Good thing is that he doesnt want to socialize which makes him always want to
stay indoors. If he were to socialize before he was confirmed to be positive of the
virus, he could have infected other people.

7. Did you find this lockdown effective for reducing the virus? Why or why
not?
Yes, because the virus will always stay within their host until the host will die.
They can only stay alive if they transmit from one person to another, spreading in
numbers to strengthen and live longer. So as long as those who are positive of the
virus will pass on while avoiding to spread the virus, they helped their community
and saved the lives of countless of people.

8. What are the effects of lockdown to corona virus in your area or in your
province?
It is both challenging and safe. Challenging since there are families and people
42

who are struggling to find a proper income, since most business who run by
groups of people are often forced to closed due to financial problems. It is also
safe since they have to also follow the rules or else they will face penalties which
could bring more problems. But most importantly, they had no other choice since
we also dont want to die by the virus.

9. During this corona virus disease , did you find any effects of lockdown in
our nature?
Yes, since many companies are forced to close. There are also those who create
problems to nature, such of which that causes pollution or any harm to them.
Today however, animals and other living creatures are now thriving peacefully
due to less disturbance. Especially less homes being destroyed.

10. Do you always follow the proper safety health protocols ? Why and why
not?
I always do, like other people. I want to avoid facing violations and also want to
value my life too highly.

11. Why should you regularly wear face mask whenever you go outside?
To avoid the transmission of the virus.

12. Are you still afraid even though you are already following the proper
health protocols? Why and why not?
Yes, since there are numerous symptoms of the virus, some of which will appear a
couple days later. It is hard to detect someone with the virus immediately.
Because of this, it is risky to meet other people, may it be your friends or family.
There are also corrupt government members who will try their best to steal from
you and ruin your life.

Respondent 7: Mark Micutuan

1. In what way lockdown affects your community during the transmission of

the corona virus?
There could be a lot of effects to our commumity caused by the lockdown such as
being not able to go out and interact with people especially with your families
and friends. This fact will cause boredom and stress to people which can affect
their overall health. Another effect caused by lockdown is that government
became innovative such as looking for alternative ways for students to learn. That
is why an online education is being implemented so that students could learn
43

despite in this pandemic. However, there could be a lot consequences in this kind
of learning such as being out of focus in doing the tasks assigned to them. And the
most common effect of lockdown in our community is the lacking of financial
support due to the fact that most families including their breadwinner have lost
their job during this lockdown.

2. Did lockdown affects your families financial status during this pandemic?
Why?
Unfortunately, yes. My father had to stop his work temporarily due to this
lockdown and he is the only one working in our family. However, it doesn't mean
that we are having difficulties in buying and providing our needs. But I admit,it
was way better than before.

3. Does lockdown affects your studies during the transmission of corona

virus?
Yes. I mean, it is way better if we had face to face class because I can listen and
focus more on the studies than this online method of learning. Since we are using
social media and other means in learning, there's a high chance that we could be
distracted by social media itself such as facebook, youtube, tiktok, and most
especially playing mobila games.

4. Did you always observe social distancing in public places? And why?
To be honest, I kind of not like following social distancing rule due to the fact
that it is difficult to understand the person you're talking too. But, if I will say I'm
in a super public and secured place, of course I will follow social distancing.

5. Why does lockdowns and social distancing can reduce the transmission of
the the disease?
We all know how covid19 works or how it could be transmitted. It is through
verbal communication with other people. Once an affected person talks to other
person there's a higher chance that the person that is not affected will be affected
unless his immune system is strong enough to beat the virus. That is why
lockdown and the social distancing is being implemented. Lockdown is effective
since it will help people to prevent interacting to other people that could possibly
be affected by corona virus. In this way the rate of the transmission will likely be
reduced. In social distancing, since people sometimes will go to places or some
important matters, it is very important to implement social distancing so that
people can freely talk without the risk of being affected by covid19.

6. Are there any evidences of reducing the transmission of corona virus cases
in your area because of lockdown or social distancing?
As of now, I don't hear something like we have cases here in our area so I
believe, it is an enough evidence to prove that lockdown and social distancing is
effective. It depends on the people though. If they will obey the rules and become
responsible, then lockdown and social distancing will be in its 100%
effectiveness.
44

7. Did you find this lockdown effective for reducing the virus? Why or why
not?
As I've said earlier it depends on the people if they're responsible enough.
However, so far I think it is effective since most people are being disciplined.

8. What are the effects of lockdown to corona virus in your area or in your
province?
As I've stated earlier, it is the implementation of the new normal way of
education, the lacking of financial support, unable to interact with friends and
families resulting to boredom and stress.

9. During this corona virus disease , did you find any effects of lockdown in
our nature?
I believe yes. Since the lockdown, people have experience boredom along the way.
In this reason, they look for ways on how to get rid of it and one of which is
planting some plants. As we all know, most of our mothers have fund to plant
some plants or even collect some rare plants. That is why it affected our nature in
a good way.

10. Do you always follow the proper safety health protocols ? Why and why
not?
Yes of course since especially in our situation today rbat we are needed to follow
some health protocols just to be safe.

11. Why should you regularly wear face mask whenever you go outside?
As Ive said earlier. Covid19 transmissiom works through verbal comminication.
That is why it is necessary to wear face mask so that it would prevent the affected
person to infect other people throught their saliva since most of us when we're
talking, our saliva will usually splash.

12. Are you still afraid even though you are already following the proper
health protocols? Why and why not?
Yes,because the fact that even those people who have no travel history gets
infected, it makes me still be afraid. That is why we are needed to double our
awareness and be responsible enough.

Not yet, but there's some frontliners have their vaccination.

Yes, because people's wandering is reduce and they can no longer just go to the

province?
They can no longer roam, alleviating the spread of covid 19.

For me, it wasn't too affected but people prefer to plant flowers.
