About this Course

Hello!
Welcome to the Azure Virtual Machines course. This course is part of a series
of courses on Microsoft Azure. What you will learn in this course:

• How to determine virtual machine workloads and how to size your virtual machines.

• How to plan, create, and deploy Windows and Linux virtual machines.

• How to configure virtual machine IP addresses, availability, scalability, and security.

• How to manage, attach, import and export virtual disks.

• How to monitor virtual machines using various tools.

Course Prerequisites

• Learners should a general understanding of cloud computing including services and


usage models.

• Learners should have a good foundation in accessing and using simple Windows
PowerShell commands.

• Learners should have a basic understanding of Azure services and components,


including Azure PowerShell.

• Learners should have a general understanding of on-premises virtualization


technologies, including virtual machines, virtual networking, and virtual hard disks.

Course Content
This course is designed to get you started as quickly as possible with Azure
Virtual Machines. There are a variety of self-paced learning activities.

• Review Questions are located throughout each module and check your general
understanding of the key concepts.

• The Final Exam located at the end of the course evaluates your overall knowledge.
This a graded event.

• Practical Exercises are optional hands-on tasks that demonstrate what you have
learned in the course.

• Videos are located throughout the course to explain the concepts and provide step by
step walk-throughs. These videos are part to the Microsoft Virtual Academy Microsoft
Azure for IT Pros Content Series: Virtual Machines course.
• And, the Support page is a great place to exchange ideas with other students.

Grading
This course has two graded events (Final Exam and Lab). An overall total score
of 70% or better is required to pass the course.

page. Online courses are different from instructor-led classes. Here are some
pointers:

• Set a deadline for completing your class tasks. Tasks can include: watch the video,
read the reference material, or complete the lab.

• Check the Discussion Boards daily. Make a point of connecting with other students and
exchanging ideas.

• Really try each of the Review Questions before you view the answer.

• Read any supplemental or Help page information that the course material refers to.

• Practice each of the code examples. Try some of the parameters and properties that
are not explicitly discussed.

• After watching a demonstration try to duplicate the steps yourself.
