Foreword
"Advanced Kids Series" is based on the specifications of the latest pre-primary level ECD
curriculum and also on Montessori principle in Nepali context. It supports the concrete number
concepts and computation skills.
The lessons - exercises focus on understanding, counting, comparing numbers, shapes, sizes,
recognizing numbers up to 50 with simple addition and subtraction.
The computation processes are presented in a step-by-step manner to help your child
understand exactly what is to be done.
The exercises / activities are carefully graded, varied and child-centred with coverage for
children with different learning abilities.

Suggestions for applying Advanced Kids Series

• First of all, make the child's learning environment secure and pleasant.
• Do your best to transmit the message that learning is challenging and difficult, yet enjoyable
and rewarding, so genuine specific praise, temptation and constructive warning will help
to build child's confidence.
• The clear and simple directions about every activity / exercise page will enable children
to proceed independently but your undivided attention is necessary.
• Before starting the page, please give very clear child-friendly instructions. Read and spell
out the title of the page, especially for those who can learn more clearly by listening
(auditory learner). Show an example of all the concepts to those who can learn more
clearly by looking at things (visual learner). Give an opportunity to touch, feel and play
with concrete objects or materials to those who can learn fast through the medium of
practical exercises by exploring the environment (kinesthetic learner).
• Explain the skill and show the steps of activity to the child as an example.
• Make the child understand and realise with concrete objects then only let her/him practice
the exercises / activities.
• Have the child practice, repeat, revise the same exercises many times for their long term
memory.
• Support the child's efforts to move beyond what s/he has already accomplished.
• There will be days when your child may not feel like working. This is typical, so accept it.

Remember to be patient, encouraging and positive with your child,

even when minor mistakes are made.

Advanced Kids Series
Implementation Strategy

1. Attend the author’s orientation cum practical session.

2. Follow the author’s note.
3. Prepare session plan for 3 or 4 terms (syllable for 1st, 2nd,
3rd, 4th terms)
1st term (5-23, 84-102), 2nd term (24-44, 103-123), 3rd term
(45-68, 124-147) final (69-83, 148-159+Revision)
4. Facilitate the children rather than teach.
5. Use related required learning tools/ materials. (flash cards,
matching, puzzle, domino, etc.)
6. Include theme-based songs, stories, poems and games.
7. Be conscious about children’s three learning styles and
different multiple intelligences.
8. Apply and practice Montessori’s six learning areas in Nepali/
Local context.
9. Follow and practice Montessori’s Principle “Grow with culture
and learn with nature”.
10. Follow. See, judge and act principle. Don’t jump directly to the
book. Practice first on the white board, wall board and in the
class work activities.
11. Give responsibility according to the child’s interest, ability and
intelligence.
12. Give children an opportunity for revision work for their sustainable
memory.
13. Maintain student’s monthly personal portfolio.
