Group Presentation Reflection:

During the group presentation that we were assigned this semester, I believe that my
communication skills have enhanced dramatically. Not just my external communication, but my
internal communication between group members was challenged during this project. I was the
first one to reach out, I felt like no one was taking me seriously, and I would still be left on open
when I double texted about the assignment. It was very challenging to keep a positive attitude
while messaging this team because the deadline was getting closer, and no one provided any
feedback regarding when we were going to meet or what we wanted to present.

When we finally got together on a Teams call, my communication was again challenged because
I was the only one aware of the assignment directions, and no one pitched any ideas. Typically, I
do not mind being the team leader but not when having team members who do not communicate
effectively. As much as I tried to guide the conversation, I was given very little back. My group
ended up following my lead, and I created the majority of the PowerPoint.

Even though many would have given up, this obstacle did not stop me from continuing to
communicate effectively. I made sure to keep texting until we were all available, even if it was
the day before the presentation at 8 am. When we finally got to the end of the preparation
process, I tried to get everyone to run through their slides until it was almost perfect. We ended
up being one of the better presentations. We incorporated all the aspects of communication that
we had learned, such as the speaker’s triangle and opening with an attention-getting statement.

I will admit that effective communication is an essential aspect of teamwork, and it’s even more
critical in a business setting. This assignment has taught me that even though the feedback is not
as effective as the sender’s message, effectively communicating will get the project done. I
believe that with the knowledge I have from working with this group, I will be able to
communicate well with any team and its challenges in the future.
