Identify two notable Filipino Historian. Look for their biography and be able to
include their “pict face “and their contributions to Filipino historiography.

Teodoro Andal Agoncillo was born on November 9, 1912 and died


on January 14, 1985. He was a prominent 20th-century Filipino
historian. He and his contemporary Renato Constantino were among
the first Filipino historians renowned for promoting a distinctly
nationalist point of view of Filipino history (nationalist historiography).
He was also an essayist and a poet. Agoncillo is related to Don Felipe
Agoncillo, the Filipino diplomat who represented the Philippines in the
negotiations that led to the Treaty of Paris and Doña Marcela
Agoncillo, one of the principal seamstress of the Philippine flag.

Encarnación A. Alzona was born on March 23, 1895 and died


on March 13, 2001. She was a pioneering Filipino historian,
educator and suffragist. The first Filipino woman to obtain a
Ph.D. She was conferred in 1985 the rank and title of National
Scientist of the Philippines. From her perch in the academe,
Alzona wrote several books on the history of the Philippines. Her
first book, published in 1932, was entitled A History of Education
in the Philippines 1565–1930. It was lauded as "a
comprehensive account of the education and cultural
development of the country [and] probably the most complete and comprehensive work
on the subject to date”
