THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

Background of the Study

”It is alive and well and part of successful literacy classrooms everywhere” (David

Booth). Comics transcend readers minds into new knowledge in literature, the medium

of comics is undergoing a transition, as digital display becomes an increasingly popular

in some students in mode of consumption. By the presence of laptops and cell phones,

and the accessibility of the internet is just easy. As comics gradually leave behind the

trappings of print and embrace those of the screen, so too do they invite new crossovers

and appropriations of tropes from other screen-based media.

E-comics now a trend to students, especially that it can be access to our cell

phones and other gadgets. Commonly students use E-comics to pass time and to

entertain themselves because of how easy it is to access E-comics through a few simple

taps of the screen. E-comics: Fan fiction novels and Knowledge Acquisition of Students

hook readers due to how they portray specific scenarios and allow the reader to put

themselves into the shoes of the characters allowing them to express their emotions in

different ways

E-comics teach students to read and enhance their own vocabulary and to share

to other junior high school students. This enhances their thinking capacity turning them

into a new generation not confined to their own learning’s but to learn different literature

from around the world. This new generation is free to learn different thinking methods

from all around the world because of E-comics that are shared throughout the internet.

E-comics are what inspire the new generation to spread their wings and share their own

opinion throughout the world.

The purpose of this research to show students an alternative way to learn and

comprehend their understanding and to speak the English literature fluently and correctly

via using E-comics. Comic books are becoming increasingly popular on the field of

education. In response to this, E-comics use visual images and text that can be used to

teach students without the hassle for teachers to teach. The purpose of this is research

is to present an overview of comic books as an educational tool thus this means E-

comics can be used by every students and to enhance their acquisition of knowledge.

Definition of Terms

For better understanding of the research, the following terms are conceptually

defined:

E-comics are comics that are not viewed through a web browser e.g comics

downloaded as pdf files, cbr files, or cbz files and etc.(http://artloader.net/comics/comics-

articles/digital-comics-a-definition/)

Fan Fiction novels is when someone takes either the story or characters (or

both) of a certain piece of work, whether it be a novel, tv show, movie, etc, and create

their own story based on it. (https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php? term=fan

fiction).

Knowledge Acquisition Knowledge acquisition is the process of absorbing and

storing new information in memory, the success of which is often gauged by how well

the information can later be remembered (retrieved from memory). The process of

storing and retrieving information depends heavily on the representation and

organization of the information.
