what is mechanical energy mechanical

energy is the sum of kinetic energy and

potential energy mechanical energy is

associated with the motion and position

of a body in other words an object

possesses mechanical energy when it has

the ability to do work due to its

position our motion for example a moving

car possesses mechanical energy due to

its motion we can say its kinetic energy

an object left it high above the ground

possesses mechanical energy due to its

vertical position about the ground we

can say that this body possesses

potential energy thus we learn that

mechanical energy can be either kinetic

energy which we call energy of motion

our potential energy which we call

stored energy of position if a body

possesses mechanical energy whether it

is in the form of potential energy or

kinetic energy is able to do work it

means that mechanical energy enables the

body to apply a force to another body in

order to displace it from its mean

position various examples can be given

of how an object with mechanical energy

can harness that energy in order to

apply a force to cause another object to

be displaced for example if a

fast-moving object hits a stationary

object give

in collision the mechanical energy of a

moving object will cause the stationary

object to move in the direction of

exerted force another example that shows

how mechanical energy is the ability of

an object to do work is a hammer for

example a hammer is a tool that utilizes

mechanical energy to do well the

mechanical energy of a hammer gives the

hammer its ability to apply a force to a

nil in order to cause it to be displaced

because the hammer has mechanical energy

in the form of kinetic energy it is able

to do work on the nil

therefore mechanical energy is the

ability to do work now how can we

calculate total mechanical energy of the

system as I mentioned early and the

lecture that the mechanical energy can

be the result of its motion for example

kinetic energy are the result of a

stored energy of position for example

potential energy hence the total amount

of mechanical energy is the sum of

potential energy and the kinetic energy

that's why we write total mechanical

energy is equal to potential energy plus

kinetic energy we know that potential

energy is equal to MGH and kinetic

energy is equal to half of mass we scare

I hope you have learned the basic

concept of mechanical
